Alegrah grinned at her old friend and shook her head, “Nah, I’ve just been laying pretty low. I’m on a different cheer squad, not at the school. Just trying to get everything back in order in my life, I guess.” She laughed lightly, “So how have you been? I know Emmett didn’t come back to town,” she gave her a sympathetic look, hoping she wasn’t crossing a line talking about this, but they had been really close before and she didn’t see why anything would have to change.
Mady smiled and thanked her, “I suppose your sister probably would like my outfit either. I know it’s an Anti-Valentine’s party, but honestly, who could pass up this adorable dress, red or not. I disagree, you don’t look like cotton candy.” Vic nodded, agreeing with Madalynne before he left and made his way over to the table that housed the drinks. Mady shook her head lightly at him and looked back at Sophie. “Be patient with him, he’s never really had a girlfriend. Between you and me, and I wasn’t the one who told you, but he really likes you and he’s doing everything he can not to screw it up.”
Malachi was still watching Emma, but he saw her look back at him and he looked down. God damn, Cai, stop staring at her. It’s creepy. He was a bit rusty on his girl skills, which made since. He hadn’t had to whoo someone since the second grade. Back then, girls liked it when you picked on them, now he wasn’t so sure what to do, and he’d already made a dick of himself, so there wasn’t much else he could do. He made a move to try to figure this out, getting a couple of drinks before he made his way over to her, praying that he wasn’t interrupting something important. “Uhm… Hey Emma,” he said softly, offering her a sprite.

"Gee, I don't know. I'm not a blonde, but I'm having a fucking field day right now. Can't you tell?" Alexia asked with a sarcastic grin. She couldn't believe that she was actually getting bored so quickly at her own party. She was actually considering sneaking out herself for an extended cigarette break. "So you're not having a good time, huh, dog boy? So sorry to hear that...." She scooted further down the couch and turned to face him. "Well if you feel the need to amuse yourself, there's plenty to do. We have food for you stuff your face with, whiny brats for you to hit on, more animals for you to develop an inter-species bromance with....oh yeah, and we have karaoke too." Noticing the headphone sticking out of his ear, she then asked, "So what are you listening to? Music, basketball scores, the voices inside your head...."
Kylie nodded at Alegrah's statement about getting her life back together. She really understood where she was coming from. It was amazing just how much she had lost in the past year. "Yeah I so don't blame you for joining a different squad. The girls at Riverside High are such total bitches." That meant a lot coming from Kylie, considering the way that she used to behave a few years ago. "I've been doing okay." Now there's a major understatement..... She doubted that she'd ever be completely okay again. "Who?" she asked, racking her brain, trying to remember just exactly who Emmett was. After several seconds of thought, a brief memory flashed through her mind. "Oh him!" she exclaimed suddenly. "Yeah, I haven't seen him since like sophomore year or something...." She couldn't believe that she had forgotten all about him. Like Brody, Emmett wasn't her boyfriend, but she did go out with him a few times. At least I actually got to go to the prom with him.....
Sophie was about to make another nice comment about Mady's dress, but was suddenly rendered confused and tongue-tied by what she had to say about Vic. "H-he what?" she asked, trying to make sure that she heard Mady correctly. "Are you sure? I mean, we're friends....we're really good friends....." It was so much to take in at once. Vic actually liked her? "He's never had a girlfriend? Like ever?" That fact was even more surprising to her. It was hard for her to believe that a guy as nice, sweet, and funny as him had never had a girlfriend. "I can't believe that he....oh my god...." She glanced back at Mady, her cheeks almost as Mady's dress. "Just between you and me, he's not screwing it up....at all." If what Mady was saying was true, Sophie had to do something and fast, but what?

"It sucks to say but you kinda get used to it after a while. Sure there are those "what the fuck" moments but, you get numb to it I guess." Graham pushed off the wall when another guy came over, glancing around to see Major standing alone, eating a plate full of pizza. He shook his head lightly at the kid, he was pretty sure the party wasn't turning out how Major expected at all. For Graham, it was exactly as he expected, boring as hell. He glanced at the guy who'd walked up again before looking back down at the girl. "Did you know someone in the Military?"

Eli raised a brow, smirking at her sarcastic comment. He was pretty sure this was her party, and he found it odd for her of all people to be bored with it before it had even started. “You aren’t having fun? Isn’t this your party?” He asked, shrugging with her question. “It’s nothing against you or anything. This just isn’t really my scene anymore.” It really wasn’t. He was only just getting back into the social world again and parties didn’t appeal to him anymore. “Inter-species bromance, huh? Sometimes I prefer animals over their human counterparts.” He paused to give the dog another scratch on the head. “There’s no bullshit with them.” When she made a comment about the music, he pulled the bud out of his ear, having forgotten it was even there. “Music.” He told her, giving a small smile. “It’s a great distraction.”
Emma had lowered her eyes as the guy spoke, she could kind of relate. She had become numb at first though, it wasn’t until months later that she finally broke down and cried. She had cried for days. She looked up suddenly when Malachi walked up, offering him a smile. “Hello Malachi.” She replied, taking the drink from his hand. “It’s nice to see you again.” She was glad he had finally come to talk to her, then maybe she could figure out what had kept him away in the first place. She had thought that they were becoming friends. As the military guy spoke again, this time asking her a question, her eyes rested on him. “Yes, I did.” She said softly, “My father was in the military. He died when I was nine, on his last tour.”

Alegrah laughed lightly, “Wow, well then I suppose it’s a good thing you don’t remember him.” She licked her lips and thought about when they were younger at Mabtown High. She smiled, the memories were good, prom, school, everything. She nodded, “Yeah, they’ve already started to get on my nerves and I’m not even on the squad.”
Mady nodded, “Yeah, trust me. He tells me everything.” She let a smile appear on her face with the last thing she said, “Good to know.” She looked up as Vic returned to them with three drinks in tow. Madalynne took one of the glasses from him and smiled, “Good job, Vic.” He nodded and offered the other glass of sprite to Sophie. “You guys have fun while I was gone.” Mady nodded and gave Sophie a wink. “Yeah, I was just about to tell her about the time you lost your clothes and had to walk all the way back home from the gym in just your boxers.” Vic’s eyes grew wide and he felt his face redden. He shook his head lightly, “Mady…”
Malachi nodded lightly, and shrugged, “Are you sure? I mean, I kind of made an ass of myself last time I saw you.” He blushed lightly, but smiled at her, but then he heard what they were talking about and he wished he hadn’t come talk to her. He’d obviously interrupted something and it was apparently very personal. He looked down at the ground and took a drink out of his own cup.

"Yeah, it's my fucking party and I can bitch if I want to," Alexia replied defensively. All she had done was put up a bunch of fliers in town. She hadn't specifically invited anybody. Her siblings hadn't even been invited. Her sisters were there because their mother had suggested that they come and her brothers were around because they just happened to be home at the same time and had nothing better to do. She wasn't sure why she assumed that the party would be fun. Since arriving in Riverside last year, she had only met one semi-decent person. The rest of the town was pretty much filled with wimps and snobs. She was ready to write him off as just another Riverside snob until he mentioned that he wasn't holding anything against her, causing her attitude towards him to soften a little. "Yeah, Dwight doesn't take any bullshit. None of my pets do," she said, petting Dwight under his chin. "The other humans in this house may be complete and total nutcases, but the animals are pretty chill." She smiled a tiny smile back at him and nodded her head at the music comment. "Best distraction ever," she agreed.
Kylie laughed along with Alegrah. "Yeah, I guess its a good thing that I zapped him from my mind. We all did some totally crazy things back then, didn't we?" She turned up her nose as she thought about the Riverside High cheerleaders and the way that they had treated her. She could relate, having treated people similarly in the past, but she couldn't recall ever being that harsh. "Miki and I so should have joined your squad. They're probably way nicer. Have you like competed in anything yet?"
"H-he does?" Before Sophie could quiz Mady on just what else she knew about Vic, he appeared with the drinks, nearly scaring the hell out of her. "Th-thanks," she said, taking the glass from him and gulping it halfway down. Realizing how strange she looked, she laughed, trying to play it cool. At least I didn't snort in front of him again..... She almost spit out her drink at the boxer shorts story, but she caught a glimpse of Mady's wink and quickly recovered. "Yeah," she said as casually as she possibly could. "She was just about to tell me all about it." She noticed Vic's terrified expression and red face, which caused her smile to grow even bigger. It was really starting to sink in now. He likes me....he actually likes me....

Graham nodded. "My pops was in the Military too, died on duty as well. He was in the Military my whole life, so I guess it was just natural that I follow suit. So did my brother, except he's in the Air Force. Ma wasn't too happy about it, but..." He trailed off with a shrug. He looked over at Major again, who had finished eating his pizza and looking around, probably for something to do.

Looking at the boy in camo, Emma gave a sympathetic smile. She figured he probably had enough of hearing the ‘I’m sorry’s’ and other run of the mill apologies. Besides, if he wasn’t anything like her, sympathies didn’t really mean a thing unless they were from someone she cared about. “I can see why, it’s very honorable. But, I think I’d die if any of my brothers enlisted, so would my mom.” She said, her eyes drifting back towards Malachi after the words left her mouth. Emma raised a brow in question to his statement, turning a little more to face him directly. “What do you mean?” She was having trouble even remembering what he was talking about when it dawned on her. Her eyes shone with recognition before she let out a small laugh and shook her head. “You mean that?” She asked, “Oh, come on. I’ve been called a lot worse things than that.” She lifted the cup to her lips, smiling a small teasing smile before taking a drink. She really had been called a lot worse, not that she would tell him that anytime soon. That whole ordeal wasn’t something strangers enjoyed hearing, or anyone enjoyed hearing for that matter.
Eli let out a chuckle in response. “I really hope you didn’t just quote Lesley Gore.” He teased, making a face, “And you’re not allowed to judge me for knowing that song, I have a sister who loves to drive me nuts.” The real reason why he knew that song was because of his mother, who loved the oldies. His parents and their death wasn’t something he talked about in passing, he wasn’t to that point yet. He didn’t think he would be for a long time. As Eli watched the people in the room begin to form their little groups, he once again found himself wondering what the hell he was doing there. At least he had found one seemingly interesting person to talk to that wasn’t family while he was there. It was a little easier than before, but it was still hard for him to put himself out there and talk to new people. He didn’t like letting the walls lower and giving small pieces of himself away. “Sometimes it’s the only thing that gets me through the day. Music, and the game.” He said, looking at her again. “I’m a bit of a sports junkie.”

Alegrah grinned and let herself nod, “Yeah, like that camping trip one year? EVERYONE was out at the lake at some point without clothes on,” she grinned and nudged Kylie. Alegrah, herself had gotten action that weekend and she assumed that Kylie had too. Alegrah nodded, “You should have, it would’ve been like old times.” Shaking her head at the question she replied, “Not really, I mean we have a competition here and there, but they haven’t been super active the way we were in Mabtown.”
Vic threw a hand over Mady’s mouth and smiled, “Well she’s not anymore, right Madds?” he asked lightly and Madalynne giggled from behind his hand before removing it from over her mouth. “I won’t tell it, geeze,” she said, rolling her eyes before mouthing ‘later’ to Sophie. The boy didn’t see it and Mady shook her head at how unobservant he was. “You basically already did anyway.” “Oh, then you don’t mind that I finish it?” She grinned and started her story. “We went to the gym on a Saturday morning, but it was just the gym at the school, right? Because it’s free. Well some kid stole this one’s clothes, I can’t say I blame him, he wore expensive clothes, for work out clothes, anyway. Anyway, we both went to different locker rooms to shower, obviously and I was outside waiting for him for like, twenty minutes. I finally called him and he was like ‘My clothes are gone…’” She finished the story laughing so hard she had to bend over a little. “Anyway, we walked all the way home and he was only in his boxers.”
Malachi shrugged, “Yeah, but that’s not exactly the first impression I wanted…” He shook his head again, looking down to the ground. He didn’t want to make it obvious that he thought she was really attractive and that’s why his words had come out as vomit that day. He also didn’t want to admit that he hadn’t really ‘wooed’ anyone since he was about six. Maybe she didn’t know about Sara, though. Maybe she just thought he was an idiot, which is exactly what he figured she thought. “I’m pretty sure there’s no way, you’ve been called many bad things. I mean, you’re such a cool person.”

“Who?” Alexia asked, completely unfamiliar with the name. Once she heard the rest of his statement, she understood just whom he was talking about. “Nope, I didn’t quote her,” she immediately clarified. “The song’s called ‘It’s My Party’, not ‘It’s My Fucking Party’. If anything, I took a lame song lyric and made it my own.” She chuckled lightly at his assumption that he’d judge her. Damn fucking straight I would judge you….. It wasn’t too weird for ditzy bitches like her sisters to know that song, but the idea of a guy like him knowing the song was just downright ridiculous and definitely worthy of her judgment. Of course, having just met him, she had no idea exactly what kind of guy he was. What she did know was that she had been talking to him for at least five minutes and didn’t have an urge to punch him in the face. That, plus the music comment, made him at least a halfway decent person in her book. “Ha, one sister’s nothing. Try having five sisters…..” She smirked at the game comment. “I’m glad you like the game so much because you just lost it,” she added sarcastically, mocking the popular joke that she often heard floating around the hallways at school.
Kylie flushed a little as the memory of the camping trip started to come back. Unlike the other kids at school, she had kept her clothes the entire time that she was in the lake. Apart from Emmett, who was in the lake with her at the time, nobody else knew that fact. She just let people assume that she had gone skinny dipping. It wasn’t that hard; she just walked back to the girls cabin with wet clothes like everybody else had done. “Oh yeah, that was like a really crazy trip,” she said, nudging Alegrah in return. Not wanting to be reminded of what she hadn’t done, she went back to the subject of cheerleading. “Awww that sounds totally cool. I wish I had known about it before I graduated. I definitely would have signed up.”
Sophie couldn’t help but giggle a little at Mady’s story. She felt terrible that Vic had to endure such public humiliation, but the looks on his and Mady’s faces as she told the story were just priceless. Not only that, but the story had managed to temporarily distract Sophie from trying to figure out how to express her feelings. “Awwww that sucks,” she said sympathetically. “Did you ever get your clothes back? I could try to make you a new outfit or something if you want. I didn’t know that you worked out though. Do you go to the gym a lot?” It was yet another new fact that she was learning about Vic. He was just full of surprises.

Emma just smiled. She wasn’t one to make judgments of people, especially when she didn’t know them very well. She gave nearly everyone the benefit of the doubt. So what if he had said something that could have been considered as insulting? She had learned years ago to prevent mere words from affecting her; after all, they were only words. In her opinion, it was the actions that mattered anyway. “What kind of first impression did you want to make?” She questioned, noticing that he seemed a bit uncomfortable. She didn’t exactly want to make it any worse, but she did want to know. She let out a small laugh, shaking her head a little. “You’d be surprised about the kinds of things that have been said about me.” Emma said, shrugging, “But what’s the point in dwelling in the past, when you can just move forward, you know? Bad things happen and you move forward.”
Eli just chucked, shaking his head. He figured she was doing just what he’d asked her not to, judging him. But he couldn’t find the time to care, she didn’t know him anyway, so it didn’t matter. “Adding in a few curse words is hardly a notable achievement.” He hadn’t intended to be rude, but being around such a crass person was already starting to rub off on him. She seemed to constantly be on the defensive, and it was a little unsettling. But, Eli himself had once been in that position, and he knew there was only was reason for someone to be acting the way she was. It was only when bad things happened to people that they became this way. He was no expert though; she could easily be a snob for all he knew. Eli shrugged, his eyebrow raising. “Five sisters? Seriously?” He said, “I think I’d die. Though, Ivy isn’t so bad. She’s actually fun to hang out with. I take it none of your sisters are anything like you, considering you already referred to one of them as a dog?” With the mention of ‘the game’, he gave her a smirk. “The game, huh? You’re one of those. A follower.” He knew she was probably anything but, but it was too easy for him to go there, so he did.

Alegrah nodded lightly and gave a shrug. “Yeah, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be on the squad, though. It’s getting kind of dull, I think.” She shrugged gently, still being reminded of Wes and the thoughts that haunted her day in and day out of the things she hadn’t said to him when he was still around. Now he was back home with his friends and Meredith. She didn’t know her, but that didn’t mean she had to like her. She hated the girl’s guts, actually. Letting a smile appear on her face she shrugged once again, “Anyway, maybe we’ll get together sometime soon? The food is calling my name, girl.”
Vic shook his head lightly, “No, I didn’t. It was a brand new pair of pants, too.” He acted as if he were still agitated about it, but in all honesty he wasn’t. Right now he was more agitated about the fact that Mady had brought it up in the first place. His cheeks were still deep red with a blush. And he shook his head at her question. “Nah. Mady got on a fitness kick for a while and we went once a week.” Mady smirked, “It’s not a kick. I’m still into being fit. You’re the one who fell off the wagon.” Vic made a face at her and she smiled lightly at him, “You two have fun, I’m going to get something to eat,” she said, making her way over to the table, but not before passing a wink in Sophie’s direction.
Malachi cleared his throat as she asked her question. He hadn’t thought this far ahead into the conversation, because really, he’d been sure that she’d immediately shut him down. He was not smooth in any respect. He shrugged and lifted his arm up, scratching the back of his head with his free hand. “I don’t know, I mean, doesn’t every guy want to appear calm, casual and sexy? I—uhm—only appear stupid and spastic, so…” He let a nervous chuckle escape and rolled his eyes at himself. Sexy? Seriously, Malachi? Shut up. Shut the fuck up. He cleared his throat again and shrugged, “Well I don’t see anything bad from where I stand.”

Trying not to let his words get to her, Alexia rolled her eyes at him. “Oh well, my music isn’t exactly a notable achievement. Nothing I do is a notable achievement. My mere existence on this planet isn’t even a notable achievement. I’m just here.” Despite her efforts, his words were still poking at that cast iron wall that she had built to protect her emotions. The implication that she was just like all of the other snobby Riverside natives was enough to completely get under her skin. “Yeah, Dog Boy, I’m nothing like my sisters. You managed to get that right. But if you think for one second that you know me or have me figured out, then you’re just….” Why was she letting this stranger get to her? He wasn’t important. His opinion of her didn’t matter. “Whatever,” she continued with a sigh, unable to come up with a good insult to hurl back at him. “I’m not a follower.” She got up from the couch, fully prepared to escape outside for a bonding session with a pack of cigarettes. “Why don’t you go talk to my sister? I’m sure she’ll be very happy to become your chew toy. She’s got plenty of teeth marks on her already. Just ask around.”
“Yeah cheerleading’s not so much fun in Riverside. I guess this is like the anti-fun capital or something.” The rejection of the Riverside cheerleading squad was a rude awakening for Kylie. She thought that it would get better, but it didn’t. She thought that she would be able to prove herself to them, but she couldn’t. Of course, the situation with Brody really didn’t help matters. It just gave her yet another reason to run home and cry after cheerleading practice. “Or maybe I’ve outgrown cheerleading or something….” She knew that wasn’t true, but she already graduated, so she didn’t really have another shot at it. Trying to block out the bad memories of her senior year, she looked at Alegrah and attempted to smile. “Yeah, I’d so love to get together and catch up some time! Just send me a text, okay? I still have the same number.”
“Awwww I’m so sorry to hear that,” Sophie said, placing a hand on Vic’s shoulder. She would have been so upset if she had her brand new clothes stolen. “Do you remember what kind they were? Maybe we can go shopping some time and get you another pair or something.” As soon as Mady left them alone, her nerves began to reappear. She had no idea what to do or say, so she just decided to ask the most generic question that she could think of. “So how have you been?” She hated that she felt this way. She wished that she could be as outgoing as she normally was around him or that she could at least be able to pick a decent conversation topic. Their interesting conversations were one of the main reasons that she had fallen for him in the first place. She racked her brain, trying to think of something current that happened to her, something that didn’t involve her love life. “Wow, that rain was pretty intense yesterday….” Ugh, couldn’t you do better than that?!
