Sammy stood back and looked at the newly completed castle with pride. They had done it. The castle was finally finished. Not only that, but it was even cooler than the previously demolished one. He couldn’t believe that they had created such a masterpiece together without the help of grown-ups. “Yay!” he cheered happily, clapping his hands and kicking his legs in the sand along with the other boy. He then raised his hand up in the hopes that the other little boy would hit it in return. He had no idea what it meant, but it was something that he often seen his brothers and sisters do when they were happy.
Nick had barely comprehended Katie’s words when he suddenly felt her lips pressed against his. Whoa, he thought to himself. Is this really happening now? On a few rare occasions, he had often entertained the idea of his first kiss and what it would be like. Of course, being a guy, he had kept his daydreams to himself. It just wasn’t something that he felt comfortable discussing with other guys. They’d probably laugh him right out of town if they had found out that he had made it all the way to his senior year without ever having kissed a girl. Not only that, but he was almost certain that Katie would do the same exact thing, so he couldn’t discuss it with her as well. In order to prevent her from finding out, he attempted to kiss her back, trying to mimic her movements. Despite his inexperience, the process didn’t seem as difficult as he had anticipated. It didn’t feel forced….it felt natural. It was everything that he had overheard his sisters say about kissing. It was wonderful, it was magical, it was….. “Yuckeeeee!” Startled and brought back down to reality by Molly’s sudden outburst, he quickly pulled away from Katie, a mortified grin on his bright red face. “Sorry about that,” he said, still holding his sister on his lap. Trying to salvage any hope of a future date, he quickly changed the subject. “So, about that date….can sometime be really soon? As in like sometime this weekend?”

Connor continued staring at their finished masterpiece, in utter fascination, his mouth dropped in a smile and his hands continuing clapping happily. He looked back up at Sammy when he raised his hand up, gazing at the slightly bigger hand blankly, as did Kyle who sat back up again from rolling in the sand. Connor tilted his head slightly, but soon got what Sammy was doing, and held up his hand getting ready to slap it, when Kyle beat him to it. He toddled his little legs back to the other two, giving his brother a push out of the way, slapping both his hands into Sammy's one hand, tumbling himself forward onto Sammy himself, laughing all the way. Connor, however, just pouted, with tears slowly coming up in his eyes again, kicking his feet in frustration at his twin.
When she felt Nick's lips pressing back against hers, she smiled. She pressed her lips back again, just as much pressure as he was putting on her, that is until his little sister decided to pipe in a squeal. Katie couldn't help but laugh a bit. "It's fine." she grinned, moving her hand into his more, giving it a squeeze. "This weekend?" she questioned, rolling her eyes up as if in thought of if this coming weekend would be good for her. "I think this weekend would be perfect actually. Just us, no kids. How's that sound?" Just as she asked him that then, she noticed Connor toddling up out of the sandbox and up to her legs, hugging them tightly. "Connor...what's wrong, baby?" she asked her son, letting go of Nick's hand in order to pick up her son. "Kyle...meeeaaan.." Connor managed to blubber out, wiping his tears off with his short, chubby arm. Katie only cuddled him closer to her, giving a short glare back over to the sandbox where she found Kyle still lying there laughing gleefully. She turned back to Nick then, a smile on her face, rocking Connor in her soothing ways of a mother. "Like I said. No kids. Just us."

Nick was about to answer her until his train of thought was suddenly cut off by the little boy’s crying. “Sammy!” he called, dashing over to the sandbox with Molly still in his arms. It was just his luck. There was always something ruining his chances with a girl that he liked. Sammy had never been rude to anyone before. Why did he have to pick now of all times to act like a bully? Fully prepared to apologize to Katie and offer to buy her son ice cream, he glared at his brother. “Sammy, what did you do?” Before his brother could answer, he heard Katie’s son whining about a boy named Kyle, fully confirming that Sammy wasn’t the cause of his tears. If that wasn’t enough of a sign, then the dejected look on Sammy’s face was clearly a dead giveaway. “Awww, I’m sorry,” he said, putting Molly down and giving Sammy a hug. “I should have known that you wouldn’t do something wrong.” He grabbed both Sammy’s and Molly’s hands and turned around to find Katie rocking her son in her arms. The sight practically took him by surprise. Hearing that she was a mother was one thing, but seeing it with his eyes was completely different. She seemed so nurturing, so caring, almost a completely departure from the teasing girl that he was used to. “This weekend sounds great,” he said, a huge grin starting to spread across his face. “It’s my birthday actually.” And it will probably be the best birthday ever……

With her arms still warmly around Connor as he continued sucking on his thumb, Katie's gaze stayed on Nick, waiting for his follow up answer. That is, until she heard another loud cry from afar. She knew instantly that this was Kyle's doing. It truly was like mother like son, at this point in time. Katie sighed, continuing rocking her baby boy in her arms, as her eyes swiftly moved from Nick to Kyle, shaking her head in disappointment. Only seconds after Nick had left her side to soothe his own brother, Katie followed after only to grip her other son's arm in her grip with Connor balanced on her hip, and dragged Kyle back to the bench with her. "Kyle, when we get home, you're going straight into time out. No toys. No talking. You understand me?" she said in her most stern voice possible, which really was quite terrifying if you haven't heard it before. Kyle simply kept his gaze away from his mother deliberately trying to make her even more mad at him. "Do you understand?" she asked again, turning his head more forcefully back to face her. "Yaa..." Kyle mumbled out, returning his gaze back to the ground, kicking at the dirt. Katie shook her head again, returning her gentle hands back to Connor, who seemed just as frightened as before of his twin brother, and turned back to Nick who had finally answered her question about their date she has been dying to go out to. "Great!" it was as if her frustration frown had magically turned back into the sweet smile in just milliseconds. Katie could tell Nick had that effect on her. "Oh, and happy early birthday." she giggled, giving him a wink and a quick air kiss since there were too many children between them at the moment.

Nick took a step back at the sound of Katie’s voice. Wow, I’ll try not to ever piss her off…. Even though her son had been wrong, he couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the kid. He would have been scared as hell if his parents had yelled at him in that tone. Then again, he hadn’t exactly been calm and gentle with Sammy, so he had no room to talk. Making a mental note to be extra nicer to Sammy, he held on tightly to his brother and sister’s hands. “Thanks,” he said, smiling back at Katie. “I guess I’ll pick you up around seven or something?” He didn’t know much about dates, but all of the ones that he had seen on TV and in the movies seemed to start around that time. “Is there anywhere specific that you wanted to go?” He sighed and glanced up at the pre-dusk filled sky. “I have to go soon.” He wished that he could stay and talk to her longer, but he knew that his mom would have a fit if he got Sammy and Molly home late.

Katie held her grip on Kyle's arm tight enough so he wouldn't run off again, but still loose enough to where he wasn't screaming in pain. The most he was doing right now was kicking the dirt at his feet really, while Connor on the other hand was curled up in his mother's arms feeling more secure than before. "Seven sounds great." Katie grinned wider at Nick's suggestion. "Well, we already went to a movie together, so how about something different? Bowling or something of that sort? I'm up for anything entertaining really." she chuckled softly, hoping that would give him a few ideas of their first official date together. She would of offered a dinner-like date, but that always seemed so boring to Katie. And she only hoped Nick wasn't thinking of any 'boring' idea like that one.

"Yeah, that's right, we did go to a movie together," Nick said with a slight chuckle. He wasn't exactly sure if their chance encounter back in Mabtown counted as a date, but if she said it did, then he'd take her word for it. "Well hopefully you're easily entertained. I'd hate to bore you to tears and then have you never want to see me again." Despite the smile on his face, he was actually genuinely concerned that something like that would happen. Based on past experience, it wasn't exactly a far-fetched worry.

Katie giggled at his thought of her being easily entertained. "Well, I don't know about being easily entertained. But I highly doubt you'll be the one to bore me to tears." she laughed out, frowning slightly then, with a slight tilt to her head at his last comment. "Do you really feel that way? You know, you really gotta think more positive about yourself. I wouldn't of agreed to that date with you if I never wanted to see you again. You do know that, right?"

Nick felt as though he had been hit he had been hit in the head with a ton of bricks. Of course, she wouldn't have kissed him, let alone agreed to date him, if she didn't like him at all. "Yeah, I know," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I've just had a lot of bad dating experiences. It's like I'm cursed or something." He paused before he revealed anything else. Now really wasn't the time to get into his very short dating history. "I think this experience might be different though."

Katie nodded, though she couldn't help but giggle a bit when he mentioned something about being cursed. "Well, I don't think you're cursed." she giggled. "But a relationship with me would definitely be something different. A lot different than what you're used to I bet." she snickered, thinking of her own past; of how many guys she's slept with and run away from. As well as her boy's father who ran away from her. She's gotten over it already, but she still didn't know what she would tell her boys once they got old enough for the truth. "I think this dating experience will be good for the both of us, actually." she admitted with a gentle but sweet smile.

Even though he barely knew Katie, Nick knew that she was right; a relationship with her would be different. No girl had ever kissed him like that before. His relationships were never able to last long enough to get to the intense kissing stage. Katie, however, had taken the initiative and went for it right away without waiting. Oh yeah, she was completely different alright and he knew just where to take her for their very first date. "I hope I'm not cursed either," he said, grinning at her. "Because I would really hate for this to be over before it even gets started." Before he could say anything else, he glanced over at Sammy and Molly and remembered that he was getting ready to leave. "Anyways, I gotta get these little rugrats home before my mom worries about them. I'll pick you up Saturday around seven. Where do you live at?"

Katie giggled at his first comment. She just couldn't believe someone like Nick, as gorgeous as he was, would actually think something like that to himself. "Well I highly doubt that'll happen. You're too cute to let go, you know that?" she told him, finally leaning over to him, giving him a peck on the lips, adjusting Connor back on her left hip, with her right hand still gripping onto Kyle's arm, not as tightly as before, but still enough for him to not slip out. "But yeah, I guess I better take these guys home too. One of them is already getting tired while the other one needs to be punished, anyway." she chuckled, glancing down at Kyle who was staring blankly out into space, not knowing what was going on around him as usual. "But yeah, I'll see you then. Oh, I live on Parnell Avenue. Just look for the big white and blue house with a two-car garage. You can't miss it."

Nick blushed as she kissed him again. Luckily for him, Molly remained silent this time. He was thankful that she couldn't talk that well yet. She would have really given her mother an earful when she got home. "I've been told that I was cute before," he said with a grin. "I was in junior high at the time. It's nice to know that it still sticks." Making sure he had a firm grip on Sammy's hand, he bent over and picked up Molly. "Say bye bye to your new friends, Molly." Molly, having a full understanding of the some of the words, eagerly lifted up her little hand and waved. "Buh bye!" she exclaimed. Sammy, remembering his manners, yelled "Bye!" as well. Nick laughed and kissed Katie on the cheek. "See you Saturday, Katie." He then made his way out of the park, resisting the urge to turn back and look at her. It was a difficult thing to do, but he knew that it was the only way that he could get his siblings home on time.

Katie giggled lightly at his remark towards her comment. "Well, its the truth alright." she responded, adjusting herself with one baby on her hip with the other at her side. "Say bye-bye, Connor." she told the little boy in her arms, who kept his thumb in his mouth while he shyly waved his other hand before cuddling back into his mother's chest. Katie giggled at his response, looking down at Kyle. "Kyle. Say bye-bye." she told her other little boy who just looked back up at his mother then to the other two children with a blank stare. He waved with his free hand, chirping out, "byyyeee!" as a quick smile popped out of nowhere it seemed. Again, Katie laughed, nodding a quick good-bye to Nick as he settled off with his siblings. "See you Saturday, Nick." she smiled, heading off in the opposite direction towards her house.
