Garret let his gaze drop with her question, he should have known this would arise at some point. He licked his lips and brought his eyes back up to hers. "No matter how I put this it's going to sound bad. I like Aya and she see me more as a friend and to keep me from whining like a little bitch about being single and to stop flirting with her incessantly she agreed to find me someone."

She felt her heart sink down to her feet when she heard his reason. So I really am just a second choice. And though she barely knew Garret, she felt her heart break with every word he spoke. Doll drew away from him, biting on her lip hard enough to draw blood.
"So I'm just the pity date because you couldn't get who you really wanted." Doll laughed without humor; wanting to run to her room and tear up everything inside or just cry it all out, until all the feeling left her body altogether.
The worst thing to her was that he confessed to liking Aya as in present and not past. It wouldn't have been as bad if he admitted that though he had liked Aya; being with Doll would have changed that. Apparently, it did nothing of the sort. She offered him a hollow smile as she moved back; her feet touching the other end of the couch. "So why are we doing this Garret? What's the point?" And I thought I could finally find someone who liked me for me. And now this is... Now this is... Just the icing on this fucking cake. Good for me. Good for fucking me.

Her response was exactly how he thought she would react to his answer and he knew he wouldn't get any points for actually telling the truth, simply because the truth was hard to swallow. "I guess you can look at it that way, but I like you, for whatever it's worth, you're gorgeous and smart and as far as I know you aren't pining after some douche bag you used to date. I just had the misfortune of meeting Aya first is all. Had I met you first I doubt I would have given Aya a second glance." He didn't feel like his words were winning her over at all, but it was all he had.
He searched her face, hoping, with mental fingers crossed that she'd forgive him, but it was unlikely. "I'm doing this because my chances are zero with Aya, they always have been and if she's getting back with Monte my chances are in the negative because she only has eyes for the guy, if anyone could have won her over it was Dan, you know. The point is I have to get over Aya and with you it's a heck of a lot easier whereas without you I might as well jump into the deepest part of the ocean with an anvil tied to my ankles. I like you. You want me to get down on my knees and kiss your feet, cause I will, I don't want to lose you."

Doll looked away, shaking her head as a soft almost bitter smile found its way to her lips. "You suck at talking to girls. Do you know that?" She ran an angry hand through her hair, almost yanking it out as she met his gaze. "Do you really think telling me that the only reason you even tried dating me was because you knew you had no chance with Aya would make me forgive you in the least?" Her bottom lip quivered but she bit on it hard; knowing that if she let it be, she'd start crying in front of him and she would never let him see her do that. Her pride was already torn apart. "And what do you want in this relationship Garret? If it can even be called that..." She muttered the last part bitterly. Doll tilted her head and really looked at him, wondering if he could see the hurt in her eyes that was clear as day. "Am I just your get-over girl? The one who'll help you get over Aya before you throw me away? Because I really don't want to be in that kind of relationship and we might as well just stop this if that's what you expect from me because I'm not that girl." She smiled that bitter smile again as she met his gaze. "And I thought you'd know that."

"I do, I really really do, you called it. I suck at talking to girls and everyone else on the planet. You're not my get over girl. Honestly there was nothing with Aya to get over, she's my friend, nothing more than that. I...I guess what I want out of this relationship is an actual relationship, but I can't seem to get my foot out of my mouth long enough to do anything else. Sorry." He got up and grabbed his jacket. "I was wrong for being truthful with you about my feelings for Aya and why I agreed to meet up with you in the first place. I should have lied." He pulled his jacket on roughly and started for the door. "I'm sorry, I'll go. You don't deserve a prick like me anyway, you deserve someone like my brother or...Dan, but you should never have to spend a single second in the company of an asshole like myself." He paused at the door, his hand wrapped around the door knob. "I hope the next guy you run into makes you happy, treats you like the angel you really are and never finds any reason to make your lip quiver or tears to form in those beautiful eyes. Let Aya know I'm at home so she can come beat me with a bat for treating you like I have, OK?"

His heartfelt confession made her gape. Like a fish. In one second, he was at the door and against all logical reason, Isabelle stood and called out to him. "W-wait! Garret please!" Her eyes wide as she met his gaze, her mouth slack with nothing to say. "I... I really like you Garret. I really do; I don't... I don't want to tell Aya to go beat you up with a bat. I just... I just want to mean something to you. Not as Aya's cousin. But as Isabelle Wilson. I..." She bit her lip, hoping he wouldn't leave her.

The little bit of anger that had welled up inside him melted away as she called his name to make him stop. He let go of the door knob and moved back toward her, skirting around the back of the couch to get to her. "I really like you Isabelle Wilson, more than as Aya's cousin, enough to get my usually lazy ass out of bed more than an hour before I'd usually get up to go to school. I did that for a date with you. Tell me that's not something? It is for me, it's not something my friends would remember me for or believe if you told them. Another thing, I'm pleading with you right now to believe me, to forgive me and that's another thing you wouldn't catch me doing if it was anyone else. I do like you and more than just because you're hot"

Her cheeks flushed darkly at his confession. For someone who professed to lack the ability of talking to women, he was pretty good. Isabelle bit her bottom lip before smiling at him; a soft laugh escaping her lips. She shrugged and said, "It's okay. There's nothing to forgive. I'm sorry for being weird." She shook her head before shyly glancing at him and holding his gaze. "Can we please start over?"

Garret laughed, leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips and nodded. "Yeah, we can start over." He took a step back and offered her his hand. "Hi I'm Garret Walker and before you say anything, I think you should know my only real talent is putting my foot in my mouth when it comes to being around girls I like. That aside, I like you and I hope you don't find it strange that I'm confessing this before even knowing your name, which is?"

Doll pouted once the too brief kiss ended. However, she burst into giggles once Garret offered her his hand which she shook. "Isabelle Anderson; if you ever call me Doll, please expect grave consequences. But aside from that, I really like you even when you put your foot in your mouth." She lightly squeezed his hand as she took two steps closer to him. Her heart felt lighter and it was as if her smile would break her face. But she didn't care. Not one bit.

He was happy she'd decided to laugh and play along with his little game. "I'll keep that in mind and play at my own risk when considering the use of previously stated nickname." He laced their fingers together and wrapped the other around her back, swaying their bodies slowly from side to side. "What should we do now?"

Isabelle couldn't help but giggle at his antics; she looked down, watching her skirt swish back and forth as they swayed side to side. "Well, I dunno with you Garret. Do you have anything in mind?" She glanced at Garret and smiled before slowly pulling away. "I mean, I know my house seems so much fun...", she paused, looked at her house with shifty eyes before grinning at him, "But I think we should get out of here. Lest my siblings or worse, Aya, arrive and keep you for questioning." She bit on her bottom lip as she grabbed her jacket from the couch and shrugged it on. "Honestly, I don't know where we should go, but I just don't want to stay here right now." She wouldn't admit it to him but she didn't want to share him with anyone else today. She just wanted it to be her and Garret.

Garret looked around at the room they were standing in as she made shifty eyes and then nodded. "Yeah, I think that's probably for the best." He wasn't really in the mood for being questioned. He remained planted to the floor where she'd left him as she grabbed her jacket and then followed after her. "Should we repay the baseball field a visit?" He knew there wouldn't be anyone there. "Or you know the park isn't too bad." He also had nothing in mind, but if she was willing to spend the afternoon with him still he wasn't going to complain.

Izzy grinned and shrugged. "Up to you, what do you feel like doing? I think it's incredibly lame of me, especially since it isn't that far away, but I've been here for so long and I don't think I've ever been inside the park. I've seen it and passed by it a couple of times but I've never actually been inside it." She started walking towards the door, slipping her hand into the loop of Garret's. Izzy patted her pockets to make sure she had what she needed before opening the door.
[[ Ugh. Sorry, it's short and lame. ]]

Garret smiled and walked through the open door, pausing long enough for her to close the door behind them before proceeding to the truck. "You're in for a real treat, the park is outstanding." He laughed. "I'm kidding, it's just an ordinary park, same stuff as other parks; trees, grass, swings, slides, monkey bars. I guess I'm just trying to build it up and I don't really have a reason to." He opened the truck door for her, another out of character thing for him to do, but because he'd just about blew it before he was trying to make up for his mistake. "What's your favorite thing about other parks you've been to?"
