Evan listened to her as he stopped tapping the pencil on the paper and started to move it across the fresh page in the sketchbook. A concentrated stare overtook his expression and he didn't stop to look up at her as he replied to her statement. "Exactly. As much as I would like to hide it until I was sure it was perfect, I also want the customer to be pleased with the final product." Being watched was a little unnerving, but Evan had started to get used to it. "It's a lot different here, than where I came from." He said, "This place is nice though, I guess. So, you're a musician? What do you plan to to do when you make it big? Get out of here?" He almost couldn't believe he was making conversation with the girl, but he had a feeling that she wouldn't let him to remain silent.

Ansley nodded, understanding what he meant, although, she wished she didn't have to watch him, she really couldn't help herself. She thought it might bother him a little bit, but it was really hard for her to look away, he was so good at what he was doing. She let herself push her bangs from her face and nodded, "Which place do you like better?" She couldn't help herself. She found that she really wanted to figure this guy out, which was weird for her, because typically she didn't give a shit. She nodded at his question and shrugged, "I don't know. I figured we'd just tour for the rest of our lives, or at least move to a bigger town with a better music industry. Riverside shows are tame to say the least."

Evan focused on the picture coming to life in front of him, but his lips moved to answer her question before he could even comprehend what he was doing. Usually he didn't willingly offer up information about himself, but he guess his brain had a different plan for him this time. "My hometown is pretty small, Riverside is a little bigger in size. But here was my fresh start, so I'm supposed to love it, right?" Evan still didn't look at her as he spoke, perhaps that was why he was able to talk so freely. "It's okay I guess. My home was gone a long time ago, though, and all that was left was memories- so I'd say Riverside." He'd never been to a show in this town, but considering the extremely low crime rate and the kinds of girls that came through the shop, he figured they wouldn't be too intense. "I believe that, considering the rather small population. If you could be anywhere in the world, right now, where would it be?"

Ansley listened intently even looking away from the mesmerizing show in front of her to actually look at him. She nodded as he spoke. She wished she could ask what he meant by 'my home is gone' but she didn't think it was her place. Instead she focused on the next part of the conversation. She nodded, "It's like you'll get a few kids that are actually hard core and like the music, but everyone else is just trying to be something that they aren't and no one actually cares for the local bands except the people who personally know them or the few crazy fan girls who are in love with your guitarist." She rolled her eyes and let out a laugh. She thought about that for a second and then answered with a very matter-of-fact tone. "Right here. I think that if any moment in my life were to change, even slightly, I wouldn't turn out the way that destiny wants me to be."

Ansley's comment caused Evan to chuckle. He had never really been to a concert, only a few small shows at coffee shops. Concerts had never really been his thing growing up. Evan had always been home, taking care of his mother as her health slowly got worse and worse, until she finally died when he was sixteen. "Fan girls, huh? Must have an attractive guitarist." Evan continued to worked until she spoke up again, and her words caused him to pause and look up at her. Her words hit really close to home. Evan often wondered what his life would be like if his mom were never sick, or if he actually knew who his father was. His uncle had always told him that everything happens for a reason, and it had taken Evan a long time to believe it. "Wow, that's... wise." He said simply before returning to the sketch in front of him.

"Pfftt," Ansley said. "Yeah, attractive and full of himself. I swear to God he has a head the size of a goodyear blimp." She rolled her eyes lightly and then smiled, "But he is one of my best friends, so I can't say I hate him. I obviously don't if I'm in a band with him." She licked her lips and watched him again, but when he stopped drawing she looked up at him quizzically only to see him looking back at her. She was kind of shocked at what he said. She didn't think that she was very wise. Honestly, she thought she was an idiot. "Sorry, I know I'm supposed to answer 'the beach' or 'disneyworld' or 'insert wonderful lovely place here' but I really just want to be as honest as possible." She watched as he continued. "And thank you for the compliment..."

Evan listened as she spoke about her friend, chuckling slightly when she said that he was full of himself. He had known a few people like that in his life, never really cared for them much either. He found it kind of comforting to hear her talk about a friend, yet another privilege he never really had. "It must be nice to have friends, people you can count on." He hadn't ever been quick to socialize, and the one friend he thought he had ended up stabbing him in the back. "Honesty is the greatest gift you can ever offer someone." Evan paused when she mentioned the compliment. He hadn't been trying to compliment her, in fact, he hadn't even realized he'd done it. Evan offered a small smile in return, glancing up quickly before looking back down at the paper in front of him. "What do you think so far?" He asked, pushing the paper a little closer to her.

She shrugged lightly, "Yeah, I guess. I just wish that we were together more than we are. Anymore it seems like we sort of split off into two groups to hang out. At least when we aren't at a rehearsal. Jude and I and then Axle and Tad. I guess that makes since, though, since Axle and Tad live together, but we used to all four be inseparable." She smiled, blushing a bit as she remembered that he probably didn't care, or know any of the people she was talking about. "Times change, though." She let out a sigh before she returned to normal. She nodded vigorously. "I love it so far. You're work is just gorgeous..." She shook her head lightly. She couldn't wait to get this tattoo on her skin. Getting antsy, she got up and walked to a vending machine that she saw. She popped in her fifty cents and got a mountain dew before asking him if he wanted one.

Evan once again found himself wishing he could relate to what she was feeling. If there wasn't anyone in his life to begin with, there was never anyone to miss spending time with at all. Sure, there were a few people back home, but it had been so long since he had spoken to them that he was sure they had forgotten about him all together. "It kind of sucks, huh?" He said, "How people seem to change and grow apart. A lot of the time you don't notice it until it's too late. Maybe it's not too late for you and your friends, you know? All it takes it a little effort." His words of advice were so hypocritical, he knew they were. He had just told her to do the one thing he had failed to do when he left town. He glanced at her when she rose from her spot at the table, before returning his gaze to the paper in front of him. He smiled a tiny smile, for some reason happy that she was liking his work so far. It wasn't often that he took compliments to heart. "No thanks. I don't eat or drink when I'm working on a piece." He said, "Don't like the risk."

Nodding as he spoke, Ansley smiled, "Yeah, I guess you're right. I mean, at the moment I don't think we're in too much danger of growing apart, but if the band ever breaks up, I'm going to have to work my ass off to stay friends with the other two. Plus, if we break up, it'll probably be because of something Jude does." She let out a light laugh and then shook her head as she took a drink of the soda she'd just retrieved from the machine. She nodded at his thought, "That makes sense. You wouldn't want to get anything on it." She licked her lips. "But, I can hold it over here, and then if you get thirsty you can take a few minutes and come get a sip." A smile showed on her face, letting him know that she was teasing, but slightly serious at the same time.

He shrugged, remaining silent and just letting her speak. He didn’t really know what to say, and didn’t want to end up saying the wrong thing to her. For some reason, he cared what she thought. Maybe it was because she was beautiful, or maybe it was because the piece he was about to do would probably cost a fortune, but whatever it was, was unsettling. He was used to being in control of himself, but with her, the words seemed to flow on their own accord. For the first time in a long time, there was a disconnect between his brain and the restraints he had put on himself a long time ago. “Jude sounds like a character.” He said finally, heaving out a small chuckle. Evan just nodded, throwing a smile over her shoulder. “I think I’ll be just fine.” He said, “Besides, I think I’m almost done here. Only the outline tonight, I’ll finish the rest once we get this on your skin.”

Ansley grinned at his statement and let herself smile. He was fun to talk to, and she was really enjoying this. Random time away from anything having to do with, well, anything. She licked her lips lightly and nodded at him, "Oh, he is. He's kind of an ass hole too. But you gotta love him, I guess." She got super excited when he said that he was finished and moved setting her drink down on the opposite side of the table, looking over his shoulder at the finished product. "Oh my gosh, I love it. It's gorgeous, Evan. Thank you so much."

Evan smirked as she described her friend. He had encountered many people like him, in fact, many considered him to be that way. He wasn’t generally an ass, only if he wanted to be; he just chose not to socialize with most people. Her reaction to the sketch made him smile a little, but he just shrugged. “It’s no problem. It’s my job, after all.” He said. “I’ve got to make sure you like it.” There he was again, shutting down. It was a horrible habit that he had developed. The fact that he was so unable to trust others when it came to his art caused him to push people away before they could betray him. Even though he had already started to let Ansley in, letting her ask him questions and watch him work, he could feel that nagging urge to shut it down before she got any closer. Self-preservation; it would be his downfall.

Ansley shook her head lightly, "Just because its your job doesn't mean it's less beautiful." She smiled at him and raised a brow, so are we going to get this going? It's gonna take most of the night." She bit her lip and looked over to the studio where the tattoo stations were. She was usually right up front in the owner's station, but she had no idea where Evan worked. She turned her attention back to him. She was starting to get the jitters, but she always did when she was about to get a tattoo. She thought it was the excitement and a little bit of nerves mixed together.

Evan just smiled halfheartedly in response to her compliment. As much as he tried not to let his past experiences affect his life and actions, they still seemed to dictate his behavior. He nodded, and walked back through the bead-covered doorway, glancing at the girl sitting at the counter. She had a bored expression on her face. "You're going to get started tonight?" She asked, "We close in twenty minutes, Evan." He glanced at the girl and then at the clock. "Yeah, you're free to leave. I'm more than capable of holding down the fort on my own." He could tell she was a bit annoyed, not that he cared any. His eyes found Ansley in the room, “So, a simple black?” He questioned, holding up a bottle of ink.
