"I was five," Donia said, her eyes still closed as she replayed the flashbulb memories in her mind. "I did not...I did not really want to leave my parents. I just...they could not stop me, you know, once I chose my sister. Or, I suppose wouldn't is the better term. But I haven't seen her since, of course. Tracking her down would be a nightmare. Her name's almost certainly different, and she wouldn't even remember who I am." Her eyes had opened again when her voice got fierce, but the will to end these memories was strong, and she longed to succumb to sleep. "I'm going to be a wreck at the gym in the morning," Donia mumbled, because she had just turned her head to a more comfortable position and was practically talking into Mikhael's shirt. He didn't know about the fire, he didn't know when she'd taken up photography, he didn't know about the foster homes between events, but she'd told him a good chunk of her history. Mikhael knew about the people she worried about, rationally or irrationally, and that was important to her. She breathed in, trying to catch the scent of this boy, but she just ended up sniffling instead, because she had been crying earlier. Even so, her eyes were closed, and she was safe; his chest wasn't as soft as a pillow, but it was solid, and probably what she needed. Donia didn't let herself care whether she was inadvertently chasing him away, because he was there for her at that moment, when she most wished him to be.

He listened to her, simply listened to her story and slowly, little by little... Kai began to understand why Donia was the way she was. So careful to trust, so hesitant, so afraid... If he had gone through what she had, he would have probably lost his mind. And yet here she was... Not so whole, but not broken either. He wanted to fix her... He wanted to seal in the broken places of her heart with his love but only if she'd let him. He chuckled softly. "You know you don't have to go to the gym tomorrow... The gym can wait for you; it's not going anywhere."
She suddenly fell silent and Kai thought she was asleep. His hand moved to her back, lightly rubbing it as he looked up at her ceiling, afraid to look at her when he confessed. "You know, I don't know when and how it happened... But somewhere between valentine's day and you leaving... I realized that I loved you. I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you these things, so I'm hoping you're asleep so you won't run away. But I love you Donia... I really do. I'm always going to be here for you, you have to know that much, right?"

Sure I have to go. How else am I going to stick with my training schedule? I've already lost three days. Maybe she'd go in a little later than she'd planned, though, just so she could get a little more sleep.
Donia listened to his confession, something she'd suspected but been trying to avoid. He was entirely too frank with her. The way he said it, however, brought flutters to her insides. Donia wanted to feign sleep, so that she wouldn't have to respond, but her cheeks flushed fiercely, betraying her consciousness. They had only had one kiss, but between that and the collective time they had spent together, even as spread out as the occasions had been, it seemed that she had come to reciprocate his feelings. "I love you, too," she said after about a minute of silence. Her heart wasn't calm, but her voice still suggested exhaustion, and she hoped they could leave it at that for tonight.

His cheeks flushed and his heart soared when Donia replied. Kai wanted to tackle her or do something but he could tell she was too tired for anything else then what they were doing already. He smiled and nodded even if she couldn't see. "You were supposed to be sleeping you know.", a soft chuckle escaped his lips. Kai smoothed out her hair, resting his hand on the small of her back after. "You should get some rest Donia; if you are planning to hit the gym tomorrow, you'll need as much rest as you can get." Knowing Donia, even if the gym wasn't going to suddenly disappear, she would still go.

I know, thought Donia; she stayed silent, but couldn't help but grin. Donia couldn't argue with what he said, because it was true, and because it would be too much trouble to respond. She fell asleep with her arms crossed over her chest and her head lying on Kai's chest. Before long, she was too much asleep to be woken up by any mild stimulus, and she only moved a little, one hand eventually migrating to Mikhael's chest.

Kai watched Donia slumber for a while, only falling asleep almost an half an hour after Donia did. He woke up only when he the birds started chirping. He had almost forgotten where he was until he saw the sleeping Donia on his chest. Mikhael yawned as quietly as he could before smiling at the girl whose hand had found its way to his chest. He took her fingers and briefly kissed them before putting his hands behind his head, knowing that if he moved anymore than he already had, he'd wake her up and he didn't want to. She had experienced a very trying evening and he knew she needed her rest.

"Donia, are you awake yet?" Lorelai called out, because they had planned to leave almost a half hour ago for the gym. She didn't mind waiting, because she had a good novel to read, but figured Donia would want to stick to her intended plans.
Donia had been stirring a little, but trying to stay in the world of a dream she was having trouble hanging on to. When Lorelai called her name, she knew she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep even if she wanted to, and she guessed it was later than she'd wanted to wake up. "Well, I am now," she yelled. Donia sat up, and that's when she noticed Kai was there. She blushed immediately. "Good morning," she said quietly, a little at a loss for what she might say next. He hadn't had to stay the whole night, not that she minded that he had. Even more surprising than that was the fact that she'd slept through the night. She'd woken up the past few nights in a row with typical nightmares, and hadn't been able to shake them to get much rest lately by going back to sleep after she'd woken up. "I, uh -- what time is it?"

Kai smiled at Donia as he slowly stretched and greeted her a good morning. "Did you sleep well? I think it's half-past 9." He checked his watch as he stood up and showed it to her. He turned to glance at the door as he ran his fingers through his bedhead hair before turning to grin at Donia. "Your sister's been calling you for the past half hour you know..." He shrugged a bit guiltily. "I know I should have woken you but you looked like you needed the rest, I'm sorry Donia." He stuffed his hands in his pockets before speaking. "I uh-- I should probably get going." He didn't want to leave of course but it was morning, and Donia and Lorelai had somewhere to be. He didn't want to get in the way.

"Yes, surprisingly, I did," Donia said, then looked at the watch he showed her. "Oh, wow. I guess I ought to get moving, then," she said, pressing her hands to her face for a moment. "You could've woken me you know, but, um, it's alright." Donia quickly pulled her hair into a ponytail, for the most part not caring what it looked like because she was just going to exercise, but tried to fix her bangs anyway. "Yeah, you probably need to get things together for class." Donia brought her hand up to her necklace unconsciously, but brought it down after several seconds. "Thanks, Mikhael," she said, "for staying with me." She gave him a shy smile, but was thinking that a kiss goodbye might be somewhat more appropriate. That thought deepened the blush that had almost faded. "Would you like some breakfast before you go?" Donia asked. "We have, um...probably just cereal." She laughed. "We have not done much shopping."

Kai chuckled and nodded. "Yeah... It's okay I think Georgie left me some breakfast anyway." He moved towards Donia, lightly fluffed up her bangs and smiled as he kissed her cheek. "Promise me I can see you soon. I don't think I can wait a couple of days." He held her hand briefly, squeezing it affectionately before turning on his heel and walking out her door. He was pretty sure there wasn't a happier day in his life. He saw Lorelai by the living room and had the decency to blush. "Uh I'm just going to uh.. go now." His cheeks pinked. "I'll see you around Lorelai...", he managed to say before he left their apartment and headed back to his car, grinning like a buffoon.

"Alright." Donia smiled when he fluffed her bangs and kissed her cheek, and knew that her face probably couldn't get any redder than it was. "Of course you can." She didn't exactly have many prior engagements in this town. He squeezed her hand and she smiled again, amazed that she was so happy, and was still trying to understand that when he walked out.
Lorelai looked up from her book when she saw Kai come down the hallway, only her slightly widened eyes able to betray her surprise at seeing him there. "Okay. See you later, Kai. Have a good day." With that, she took a sip of her water and ducked her head again to get back to her book, though she presumed Donia would be coming out soon. When she did, Lorelai raised her eyebrows. "Oh, nothing happened, I swear," said Donia, another blush rising to color her cheeks. "I'm still wearing yesterday's clothes, for goodness sake." "Hey, I didn't say anything! You two are cute, by the way." Lorelai meant the way their embarrassment for what she presumed was nothing showed so clearly. "Sorry for the late start. I'll go get some shorts on," Donia said, turning back toward her room and glancing at her phone after she looked for a few seconds at the framed picture in the room. It won't start buzzing for hours, Donia, if even today. You know that.
