Anne just raised an eyebrow at him, smirking at the thought of him surrounded by all these beautiful choir girls. I bet he's a player. Anne thought to herself, her arm reaching around her stomach to hold, while her other hand was preoccupied with her skateboard. "I just remember back in one of my old schools, most of the guys there were either gay or undecided. Those that were straight though, I still couldn't help but make fun of. I don't know, I just find it hilarious sometimes..." she didn't mean to sound mean, you saw it in her eyes and the way she bit her lip after. She didn't even know why she was suddenly telling Eli practically her life story in one afternoon. She only just met him a couple hours ago. When they did arrive to the coffee shop though, Anne once again scrunched up her nose just as they were passing by a couple smokers on their way inside where open mic night was still behing held. "God damn, smokers. They probably don't even care that they're killing their bodies this very second.." she mumbled more to herself, but was still audible for Eli to hear.

Eli made a disgusted face, his face distorting. He wished that they would just ban smoking from places like this, if he hated one thing the most about cigarettes, it was smelling like cigarette smoke. "It's cool." He offered, "It is really easy to judge them." He didn't sound bitter, though he would have been had it been a few years ago. It wad weird to him that he hadn't been looking for any reason to shut her out, like he usually did with people. "People who smoke don't give a shit about their bodies. It's a little more healthy than other addictions though." Eli took a moment to look at the menu, trying to make a decision.

Anne gave Eli a nod and a look of agreement right before they headed into the coffee shop where the sound of karaoke filled the room. She looked up at the menu, thinking of what she wanted, shrugging at Eli's next response to her. She turned her head back to him, returning her attention back to him again. "Healthier?" she asked, in more of a scoffing tone, then shrugging it off after. "Eh, I guess it is better than some of those other ridiculous drugs out there." she agreed again, looking back up at the menu before making her way to the cash register to place her order of a simple chocolate ice blended. She handed the guy the money she owed, and stood aside waiting for Eli to order next while she waited for her drink.

Eli followed Anne up to the register, opting to purchase a vanilla bean shake. Sure, it was probably unhealthy, but he didn't care. It sounded good. He quickly pulled his wallet out of his back pocket and paid for his beverage before placing the wallet back in it's rightful place. He turned to Anne, giving her a shrug. "The world would be a much better place if people didn't touch any of it, but that would never happen." He said, referring to the more dangerous drugs out there. "I don't know why people say it's so hard to quit, I mean why do it in the first place. It doesn't help anything." He knew that drowning yourself in chemicals was the easy way out, and he was glad he didn't go down that road after the death of his parents.
Eli picked up the two cups when the barrista placed them onto the counter. "Thanks, man." He said, handing Anne her drink with a smile. He scanned the room, looking for a place to sit.

Anne shook his head at his comment, though in agreement to him. "Dude, I couldn't agree with you more." she chuckled, shaking her head again at just the thought of having herself drown her body in that crap. She was surprised that neither Eli nor herself had stooped that low on themselves, considering what they had each lost in their past lives. "Some people think its the only way to a better life---or a new life, I should say. People are stupid, ya know? I've just learned to let them deal with it on their own. And whatever happens, happens. It's not like you can change their mind, especially if their as stubborn as we are about it."
Anne gave Eli a simple 'thank you' when he handed her her drink. And took a sip of it almost instantly, sighing with relief as the cold, caffeinated beverage hit her throat. She then followed Eli through the room, until finding a place to finally sit at. "I just don't understand why people would want to get into that crap anyway. Let alone think it was cool." she added in after another sip of her drink, emphasizing on the last word.

Eli gave Anne a simple nod about her first statement. There wasn't much he could possibly say about that, because she had practically plucked the words from his own brain. When they had finally found a place to sit, he plopped unceremoniously into the metal seat and set the cup containing the cold beverage onto the table. After taking a sip, he ran his finger along the condensation, drawing patterns on the cup. He looked at her before speaking, "I know." He said. "I mean, why wouldn't they want to have a life? It's such a waste to not live your life to the fullest." Eli knew he was probably being a bit hypocritical, considering the fact that he had practically been hiding for months, trapped inside his past. But he was here, sober at that, and that had to count for something, right?

Anne followed Eli to the table where he plopped down at, doing the same herself. She took another long sip of her cool beverage before setting it down in front of her, keeping her hand wrapped around the cup itself. "Exactly." Anne nodded in agreement, turning her attention over to the stage again where the host of karaoke night was looking for their next performer. And the first thing that Anne did at that was slump down in her seat even further, taking small sips of her drink every now and then. She couldn't bear the thought of her being picked to perform on stage. Not only did she think she was a horrible singer, but she also had a horrific case of stage fright. Not that she would tell anyone about that though.

Eli's eyes traveled to the stage, and watching the girl searching the crowd for the next person to go on stage. The other people around them were goading each other, and words of bets and dares flowed freely. He looked at Anne, followed with a smirk. She looked pretty uncomfortable. "Don't like the stage?" He asked, he wasn't afraid of singing in front of groups. He just hadn't been up on one in ages. He'd never really done karaoke either. "It's not that bad. Even if you suck, it's cool as long as you're having fun." Eli smiled a small smile.

Anne returned her gaze back to Eli when he suddenly asked her that question. "Huh? Oh. Well, its not like I don't like it, I just don't see how it can be so much fun." she said, changing her tone quickly from unsure to confident again. "Personally, I prefer to watch them perform like fools, rather than become a fool myself." she added, flinching suddenly when she saw one of the girls walking towards her to pull their next victim from the crowd. "Oh shit." she mumbled and slumped deeper in her seat as the girl drew nearer. Luckily, the girl was aiming towards the table behind them though, and Anne reluctantly let out a sigh of relief.

Eli hadn't really done karaoke before, but it seemed that those who did go up there had a lot of fun. It may have been embarrassing, but everyone who did end up on the stage were in the same position as the next. Maybe it was him, but he didn't think anyone could those who were brave enough to even get up. He watched Anne, and how indifferent she seemed towards the issue bothered him a little, though he understood why once she cowered in her seat when the woman walked by. She has stage fright... He felt sympathy for the girl, but for some reason it just made him more determined to get her up on stage. "Being a fool can be fun..." He drew out, still watching her. "I would say, liberating even. There's nothing better than letting it all go, even just for a few minutes."

Anne watched as the next performer went up on stage and gladly prepared themselves for their own song to sing. She still couldn't see why people actually did this for fun. Why would anyone want to embarrass themselves? She winced partly at the sight of the tone-deaf performer now singing. "Fun to be a fool?" she repeated, glancing back to Eli, her forehead wrinkled. "Well, I can tell you this. You will never, I repeat never, see me up on that stage." she pointed to herself then to the stage with full force, making herself loud and clear to him.

Eli, too watched the next performer as they made their way onstage and chose their song. It made him smile when they began to sing, grin when they hit a particularly high note and it sounded like nails on a chalkboard. He didn't mind that the singer was completely tone deaf and sounded horrible, he thought it was awesome. "Of course," Eli replied looking at Anne again, "It takes some major balls to do something you aren't very good at, especially in front of a bunch of people you don't know. It's even better when you have fun doing it." He shrugged, smiling again. He chuckled at her reply though, his shoulders shaking with laughter. "Awe, come on." He teased, "It's not that bad."

Anne continued watching and listening to the performer, even if it made her cringe at the off-pitch screech they sang out. She shook her head, returning her gaze to Eli. "Well, of course they have the balls to embarrass themselves. That doesn't mean I don't though." she scoffed, leaning back in her chair comfortably again, watching the performer finish up their song. "Says you." she snorted, her arms crossed over her chest now. "No way in hell are you getting me up that stage." The moment she said that then, the host began their search for the next performer. Anne, of course, slumped back in her chair slightly.

This was very weird for Eli. It was out of character for him to be the one trying to convince someone to have some fun, or that something was fun for that matter. He was usually the one who sat there and denied everything they said, or just ignored them entirely. It was strange because he was beginning to see how negative that behavior was, and that with that attitude, nothing would be enjoyable. Eli just let out a sigh, watching the hostess search for the next performer. He didn't really want to give up on Anne, but he didn't think he was going to win this battle. It wasn't really worth it, was it? The way he saw it, her fears were going to come back an haunt her someday, and who was he to try and change that? It was probably best for her to learn on her own. "Whatever you say." Eli said, picking up his drink and taking a sip from the straw.

Anne was glad Eli finally saw it her way. She stayed shrunk in her seat at her next words to him, "Glad you see it my way." which turned into more of a mumble. "Shit." she cursed just then, watching, but not trying to at the same time, as the hostess started towards her and Eli's table. "You there! Why don't you come up now?" The hostess pointed to Anne. Anne tried to pretend she didn't hear her, but the hostess didn't wait for an answer and grabbed her hand and began pulling her up to the stage. "Noo! Wait!" Anne tried yelling, and had even yanked herself from the hostess' grip. "Come now, dear. It's just one song. Let's hear ya." Anne remained still, just as the stubborn girl she was. Normally, she had a good comeback or at least excuse to get out of any situation as tough as this...but now, she had nothing.
