David's eyebrows furrowed slightly with the way Aeryn had reacted. He hadn't been expecting that at all. Definitely the surprised look she gave him, but nothing even close to positiveness she gave. "Thanks." he gave a small grin, happy that she thought that much of him for having a daughter at such a young age as he is. "She just turned three, Brooklyn did. That's her name." he grinned a bit wider, feeling a little better about telling Aeryn this. "So scheduling band practices may be a bit tougher for me on account of me being a single father and all." he shrugged, not really caring what she thought about him or his past anymore.

Aeryn gave him a small smile. Hearing of David's daughter, Brooklyn, made her think of her little sister. The young girl was stuck in England with her mother, and she often looked back and felt horrible for the situation that she had left her sister in. Sure, the girl was only seven at the time, but that didn't mean she wasn't capable of wanting out. "She must be a wonderful little girl." Aeryn said, a smile on her face. She tried to push the thoughts of Karen aside, not wanting to soil the good mood she was in. She frowned though, when he mentioned being a single father. "Her mother isn't around?" She asked. "That's unfortunate." She knew what it was like only having one parent in her life, especially when the one you did have was a shitty one. "I never knew my father."

David nodded, a softer smile coming out of him just then. "Thanks. She really is something, I can tell you that." he grinned just a bit wider at the thought of his daughter and how happy she made him. Although, that smile faded into a small frown when Brooklyn's mother was brought up. "Nah...I mean, she was there for Brooklyn when she was born up to when she was just about to turn two. But..after that, I don't know what happened." he shrugged, fiddling with the neck of his guitar again, one foot on the seat while the other was flat on the floor still. "The last I remember us being together as a family was just after the hurricane when she gave Brooklyn a pink stuffed puppy dog, but a week later, her and her family left to another town. She didn't even mention or offer to take Brooklyn with her at all." David knew he was beginning to talk too much about his past now. But truth was, he actually felt better getting all this off his chest. He felt he could trust Aeryn, after all, he would have to learn to trust her someday soon if they were going to be in a band together.

Aeryn smiled, remaining silent as she listened to David speak about his daughter. She admired the way he smiled, and seemed to physically light up while talking about her. She found herself wondering what kind of person could just leave their child without a word, especially one as special as Brooklyn seemed to be. Not to mention leaving David behind, he seemed to be a great guy and it made her sad that he was pretty much left in the dust, stuck waiting for a girl that wasn't smart enough to stay. "That's so sad," She said, her head resting on her folded arms. "I'm sorry." She knew it wasn't her fault, but she felt like someone needed to apologize for the bad things that had happened to him and Brooklyn, and she meant it. She was sorry. Aeryn watched him for a moment, just thinking. She felt happy that he confided in her, that meant he trusted her at least a little. "It just blows my mind that someone can just up and leave everything that is supposed to be important to them, especially a child, you know? It's mental. I had a horribly hard time walking away from my little sister, and I hate my mother."

David was glad she was taking the news rather well. Though, he could tell that she was wondering about the mother..as most people did. He personally, would rather not even think about it. Sure, he had his fun times with her, but that doesn't explain why he left both him and Brooklyn in the first place. That just proves that much more that she wasn't the one. But maybe this one is... he thought to himself, grinning softly. A bit wider then when she apologized. "Oh. Don't worry about it." he shook his head, holding his hand up to her. "After all, its not your fault. Hell, its not my fault either. She's the one who left." he sighed, "Anyway...if you don't mind, I'd rather we change the subject. I'm not too fond of talking about the past right now.." he bit his lip. "Not trying to be rude...but, yeah.." he shrugged, hoping she understood what he was telling her.

Aeryn nodded in response to his request, it was totally understandable. Besides, it was really her business to pry anyway. She knew if some stranger asked her about sensitive subjects, she have to them to shove it, in a not so nice way. David seemed pretty strong, considering what he had been through. Having a kid so young, and then having the mother walk out on the both of them. She couldn't imagine herself in that situation, she would have had no idea how to raise a child, if it weren't for her sister that was. Aeryn gave him a small smile in return. "I understand." She said, "Not many people are, not even me." She was surprised she had divulged as much as she had already. "What got you into music, David?" Aeryn asked, changing the subject to a hopefully lighter topic.

David nodded with a light grin. "Thanks." he said simply, looking over to his guitar, fiddling with the neck of it again. He looked up just when Aeryn started speaking again, seeming to have changed the subject on them. "Oh, well, from as long as I can remember I've been into music really. Actually..." he rolled his eyes upward in thought. "To be honest with ya, my dad was the one that got me into it. He was the one who gave me my first guitar actually..." Thinking of his dad did upset him a little, but at the same time, it made him happy. At least he knew his dad loved him all along. And he was sure he would be proud of him for making it this far in the music business. Even if he did have a three year old daughter at hand.

Aeryn smiled as he spoke, how he got into music sounded a lot like her friend Noah but hopefully his story didn't get as sad as Noah's did. It was kind of bittersweet sometimes, how the things you love the most tend to stem from some of the saddest points in your life. At least, that was how it was for her. Aeryn came from a very poor family and she had never had the luxuries most people took for granted. Even now, as she worked in the coffee shop just to get by, wasn't abnormal for her. For a while, she was able to just live off of the money she gained from the band, but after they kicked her out and tanked, she didn't even have the royalties coming in. "My mom once told me that my dad was a musician, so maybe that's where I get it from." She commented, shrugging. "But she's also told me that he was a married man, an American, and a bartender, so who knows." She chuckled, even thought it made her sad that she had no real idea who her father was or if he was even alive. "But, that's really cool. I got interested in music by hanging out with a few guys when I was fourteen. They were older, interesting, and offered a distraction from home. And they could drive, that was a plus."

David nodded in response. "Possibly. Unfortunately for me though, the year my dad gave me his guitar, was the same year that he was called into war--he was in the military." he turned his head back to the neck of his guitar he was fiddling with. "So I had to stay with my grandparents for the time being. I loved them and all, but they were just so sick already, it was hard for them to take care of me properly. I had to learn to grow up pretty quickly then." he bit his lip as he retuned his guitar before playing a small note on it. Suddenly, he felt narcissistic talking about himself and his past like that, so he quickly changed the subject to what she said currently. "That's cool though, of how you got interested in music like that. Not to mention having friends to drive you around when you can't yet is fuckin' awesome." he chuckled.

Aeryn shrugged, looking away from him. It wasn't really cool, her start to music. They were just taking advantage of her from the start. She was too careless to do anything about it. She was too scared of loosing what she had thought to be her only chance, her only way out. She did what they wanted, anything they wanted, and in turn she didn't have to be at home all of the time. She looked back at David, giving a small smile. She didn't mind hearing about his life, it wasn't every day that she had a real conversation that didnt involve a 'What can I get you' or 'Have a nice day'. "I know what it's like, I never really got to be a kid." She didn't want to seem like she was looking for pity, because she really wasn't. It was just the truth. She grinned then. "I kid of like to use that as my excuse for when I act like a child. Sometimes it's fun to be a kid." She figured that he probably didn't get to do that much, considering he had a daughter to look after.

After they finished telling parts of their own life, it got quiet. The only thing going on was the karaoke in the background. When Aeryn did finally say something though, David only smiled and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, same here. I use my daughter as an excuse to act like a child, sometimes." he chuckled admittedly. "It is fun, though. I definitely agree with you on that."

Aeryn grinned, trying to imagine David acting like a little kid. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that difficult. That smile of his make everything easy, it was one of those that when you saw it, you couldn't help but smile yourself. "That's one great thing about kids," She said, "When you're with them, it's like you can forget about all of the drama and problems in your life, and just be. Even if it's only for a little bit." Aeryn often felt that way when she was around her little sister. It made her sad that she hadn't seen the girl in over a year, but she didn't show it. She smiled. "It seems like you are really good with Brooklyn."

David nodded yet again, agreeing with her. "Right?" he laughed aloud. "It's awesome. Like you said, you forget all about the drama and shit going on in life, and can just for once, relax." he grinned wider, thinking of the last time he and Brooklyn had a one on one time together. He shrugged at her last comment though. "Well, I try to be. Even if we aren't the richest we could be, I still try to make the best of it for her." he explained more thoroughly, grinning some more.

Aeryn wished she still had that, the time she cherished with her younger sister. Though, she didn't miss her mother harping on her for anything and everything, even things that she had nothing to do with. Aeryn liked living in America, it was her fresh start, and as much as hurt, she needed to move on. She smiled. David seemed to be like the father she had wished she'd had growing up, and it made her happy to see that another child wasn't going unloved. "Kids don't need much to be happy. More often than not, they just need to be loved." She knew this because that was all she ever wanted, to just be loved. She didn't need the new toys or clothes, though she never had those either.

David nodded at her reassurance. She was right. All children needed, all Brooklyn needed, was to feel loved. Sometimes he just couldn't help it though. Sometimes the way he showed his love was buying her new toys or clothes. Just like the way his father did. Well, maybe that was different. His father gave him his guitar so he wouldn't ever forget him. Maybe that's why David did that to Brooklyn, spoiled her so much. So she would never forget about him in case he ever left for some reason. He didn't want to have to leave Brooklyn. Not ever. "Yeah, you're right. I guess, sometimes, I can't control myself though." he sighed. "My dad gave me his old guitar, as a reminder to always remember him. I think that's why I spoil Brooklyn the way I do. So she'll always remember me. Stupid reason, I know. But its true."
