Brody closed his eyes as the needle was administered. All he needed was to faint in front of Liesl, he knew he'd never hear the end of it. He opened his eyes a second later and smiled in encouragement, giving her hand a little squeeze and settling himself back on the edge of her bed.
"Well half way isn't bad. That must mean there isn't long to go right? Did you bring anything with you to keep you busy while you wait?" He glanced over at the bundle of things he'd brought with him, trying to remember if there was anything they could play or watch in there.

Liesl squeezed his hand back and shook her head. "I've been here since like four in the morning so I highly doubt it'll go quickly if it's taken this long to get halfway." She took a deep breath and exhaled. "Sorry, I don't mean to snap, just not exactly in the right position to be spewing rainbows and butterflies you know." She folded her arms on her chest and glanced over to the bundle he'd carried in. "I didn't think to bring anything, I was writhing in pain when my mom brought me and figured I'd be in as much pain throughout the entire process." She made a face. "I was wrong. Bean is already a lot like both of us, stubborn, can't make up his mind whether or not he...or she wants to stay where he or she is or you know come out and join the party. I mean the kid's got it good where it is." She avoided looking into his eyes as she said this, not really wanting to start anything with him.

Brody chuckled under his breath and shook his head. "Yeah I guess we're sort of screwed in that respect huh? We just gotta stay one step ahead.." He frowned, a picture from his childhood flashing in front of his eyes. "With a united front. No good guy bad guy tactics."
He blinked, relaxing his features. "Not that that's important right now huh?" He reached into his pocket for his phone, and stood smoothly from the bed. "Do you mind if I call Jade? I told her I'd let her know when her auntie duties were going to begin." He collected the bag he'd brought with him, and placed it on the bed. "There are books in there, and my DS with a couple games, and a pack of cards. I didn't know how long this would take so I packed a bunch."

Liesl only let her eyes follow the bag as he transfered it from it's position to the bed. "Um, yeah that's fine." She pulled the bag open and picked up one of the books. "I think you're going to make an awesome father." She ran her fingers over the cover of the book and flipped it open, smiling a bit, there was no way for him to know that she'd currently been reading this exact novel. "In the rare event that Bean actually gets sick, you'll always be prepared. I can't say the same about myself."
Sorry.

Brody grinned sheepishly and shrugged. "I guess I'm just practiced at it. Hayden was a klutz when we were little, so I kind of had to be prepared for whatever happened to him next". His face twisted slightly, even small reminders were still hard. Controlling his features, he ran his fingers through his hair and pointed to the door. "Anyway, I'll be back soon. Just yell out if you need anything". He hesitated briefly, his hand on the doorknob. "I um...I love you".
Slipping out to the corridor, he flipped his phone open and dialed frantically, groaning in frustration as his call went to message bank. "Jay, Jay it's me. It's time. Your little niece or nephew is coming, they're on their way. Get out of whatever unimportant class you're in and get down here! I need you right now". Punching the end button, he messaged Mikaela and Danian almost carelessly. "Baby is coming. Don't know how long, could be hours. Call you when it's closer."
Sliding back through the door, he smiled easily, relaxing into a chair by the bed. "So what now?"

Liesl had already slipped into the fictional world of the novel when Brody began to speak about Hayden and only came out of it once Brody had already passed through the door into the corridor. She stared at the place where he'd been standing, not focusing on anything in particular, just remembering the ghost of his presence and the words he'd left her with. She rolled them around in her head, bringing them into her mouth, and then swallowed them. It wasn't something she was ready to hear yet. He'd only just come back into her life after months of being gone, months of hurt had built her up, toughened her on the outside, but had left her insides mutilated. She didn't understand how he could go from doubting their relationship to love in such a short amount of time.
She was still puzzling over this when he walked back through the door, shattering the ghostlike illusion of him in her mind, she focused her eyes and watched him slide into the chair beside her bed. "I. Don't. Know." She said, her mind still wrapped around her previous train of thought. "Did you reach her?" She asked. "Brody, you didn't really mean what you said did you? I've been thinking. It wasn't really fair of me to hold that over you that last night we were together, it's silly that you should actually love me. I mean I don't know you. We slept together, it was a one night stand technically, regardless of what we both intended, and you fell for another girl, completely natural, did you sabotage things with Kylie because I have your kid inside of me? Did you really give her the chance you wanted to give her or did I guilt you into fucking it up?"

Brody frowned, all of a sudden completely confused. "Wait what? Yeah, of course I mean it. I've spent so long fighting it that there's no doubt in my mind that I love you. In the last few weeks, every time I've closed my eyes it's your face I've seen. I already said, I'm a coward." He ran his fingers through his hair. "I could ask you the same. Have you changed your mind about me?"
He grabbed his DS from the bag on the bed, focusing his attention on the game, rather than continuing to look at Liesl. "If you have, just tell me. It won't change how I feel about you, but I'll know not to try anymore."

Liesl bit down on the corner of her mouth and looked at the pages of the book she'd been reading, the words and sentences blurring together. "It's not that..." She began, then succumbed to the next wave of pain. She doubled over the best she could and squeezed her eyes shut as hard as possible. Finally, it passed and she took a couple of deep breaths.
"I haven't changed my mind about you. I wouldn't want you to stop trying, it's just hard to see it. It's hard to believe that you could change your mind so quickly about Kylie. I know I've imagined her as this horrid, fire breathing dragon with high heels and a convertible, which isn't fair and is probably all wrong, but with your mind changed so suddenly it makes me feel like maybe she wasn't really what I knew she was once I looked past my jealous image of her." She frowned, feeling immature and stupid. "I'm scared."
She was afraid once Tyler graced them with his presence and was old enough to be left with someone other than herself or Brody, that she and Brody would become one of those dumb couples who either walk on egg shells around one another being sappy and nauseating, or they'd simply fight far too often and realize they hated one another. She wanted the relationship they'd had before the pregnancy and before Kylie.

Brody kept his face down towards the game, but looked up at Liesl from under the fringe of his hair. Chuckling softly, he tossed the game back on his backpack. "She wasn't a fire breathing dragon. She would have thought the flames would be bad for her hair. She's not awful." He paused, leaning back in the chair and smiled. "But she and I...it wouldn't have worked. To put it plainly, she's not you."
He moved to the side of her bed and leaned against it. "And I didn't change my mind suddenly. It took me weeks to finally work out what I wanted. And I really do understand how selfish and egotistic that sounds but I don't know how else to say it." He cupped her face with his hand and frowned lightly. "What are you scared of exactly?"

Liesl bit the edge of her lips, chapping them. "No that's right, she's not the fire breathing dragon I am." She stopped chewing on her lip and closed the book tossing it to the edge of the bed. "You're damn right about it being selfish and egotistical of you, but it's done I suppose and perhaps I can't blame you." She turned her eyes away from him, but his hands cupped her face and she was forced to look at him frown. "I..." She tried to look away, but her eyes were drawn back to his. "That we'll be hopelessly nauseating or we'll wind up killing one another."
