Her older brother was getting on her nerves once more, as well as her parents. Couldn't they understand that she wasn't 'okay'? It nearly the end of the school year and transferring wasn't the best idea. Demitra, honestly, liked it better in London. She got in trouble a lot and sure, the teachers hated her, but she had a crowd of friends to fall back on and smoke with under the bleachers. But she had to kiss them goodbye and move to this stupid town... What was its name again? Riverview? River...riverwalk? Riverside? "Whatever," she muttered. It doesn't matter. She's going to be stuck here for the next few years, unless her mum gets transferred again.
Demitra hastily pushed herself out of the car once it screeched to a stop. No, actually, the car was still moving - she had opened the door and carefully walked out. She speedily threw her backpack over her shoulder and flipped back her dark brown locks. "Don't be so hasty!" her brother called from behind, but she ignored him, rolling her eyes. "You and mum don't get it. I'm not a socialite like you are." she said, biting hard on her tongue, trying to hold it back from cursing. She moved back and allowed her brother to get out of the car. "Bye, mum." Demitra muttered half-heartedly, responding to her mum's cheerful, "Goodbye!"
It was raining outside. How perfect. She was only dressed in a light hoodie and it was already almost soaked. Her dark mascara and eyeliner was starting to drip; what a waste of good makeup. She wiped it off with a sleeve but it only made it worse. Her brother tried to fix it up but she pushed him away with a hard shove. "No!" she hollers, her voice suddenly turning a high-pitch. She coughed, "I don't need your help.." her voice trailed off. Soon enough, her brother was on his way to the school and her mum was driving away and she was left in the parking lot, alone.
She took a seat on the steps towards the entrance and flung her backpack onto the ground angrily. Leaning down, she shuffled through her backpack in search of her cigarette pack and lighter. Technically, it was her mum's cigarette pack - Demi had been looking through her purse again and had pulled out this pack. She had tried to keep her mum from smoking by taking it, but she was tempted and ended up smoking it instead. Now she was hooked on it. Oh well.
Demitra really didn't care whether or not the school policy outlawed smoking. She didn't care if the principal got her suspended or expelled or in detention; it had happened before and she had came out... somewhat alright, right? "Fuck this place." she murmured, lighting her cigarette.

Soren had groaned and complained to his sister all morning, he didn't want to start at a new school so close to the end of the year. He tried to convince her that he could finish up the year on his own and go to the local school next year but for once she didn't agree with him, instead she stood by their uncle and aunt (who they were now living with) that he needed to have actual teachers. When he mentioned it again she would just shake her head and tell him it was his fault for not waiting till summer to move, every time he would roll his eyes, she didn't understand, he needed her. He could make it through something happening to their parents but he needed her to be there for him, she was the only one who came close to understanding him.
Cyra pulled up to the curb and stopped, Soren tried to open the door but it was still locked. Cyra put a hand on his shoulder "Hey, I know this isn't what you wanted but I'm trying, okay? I really need you to be responsible for yourself now, you're old enough to take care of yourself and mom and dad obviously think you're ready for that." Soren sighed "Yeah, I know. I get it, okay, could you unlock the door now Cy?" Cyra hit the button and Soren pushed the door open, slinging his backpack over one shoulder. He pause for a moment to say bye then swung the door closed, trying not to slam it too hard. He could put on a facade for Cyra, he'd do a lot for her, but he glanced at school and wasn't sure he could do this for her.
As Soren looked at the school and started looking around he considered skipping. They probably would even notify anyone, and just assume that he hadn't got settled in here yet so Cyra wouldn't know and wouldn't try to talk to him about it. He started thinking of what he could do instead as he continued to scour his surroundings. He saw a girl with brown hair lighting up a cigarette and smiled, perfect, maybe someone he could get in on his ditching plan, plus she's hot he thought to himself. If she was willing to break school rules on the property he was sure she would care about breaking rules off it either. He looked around once more before putting a smirky grin on his face and walking over to her, "Hey, I'm Soren."

Smoking somehow always made her feel as if the weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. She hated moving. She hated her mum and her brother and how they couldn't understand a thing about her. Sometimes she wished that she was born to a different family. Other times, she wondered what would have happened if she was. Would they possibly disown her for her wild, disorderly behavior? She didn't know. She had been kicked out of what seemed to be a billion schools and had been in a ton of fights. Her mum sometimes said that she was just like her father. Was that to be an insult or a compliment? Her father was in jail.
This time, only some of the troubles had been lifted from her. She still felt the emotion of anxiety lingering in the air. She let out a deep sigh and scanned her eyes over the whole parking lot. Most of the cars were gone by now. There was only one or two left. A boy came out of one of them. She listened in on the tiny bits of conversation that he was having with his mum. Or sister. Whatever. She had rather sensitive hearing, so she could make out a few words. By his expression, he seemed to be almost as reluctant as she was. Maybe this school was just like rotten milk: bad.
Soon enough the boy was making his way over to where she was sitting. He had a smirk on his face. He introduced himself as Soren. Nice name, she thought. He looked around the same age as her. Maybe a year older or two.
She didn't speak until a few minutes after. "Demitra." she introduced herself, grinning as well. "Want a cig?"

Soren watched her as she looked him over and flung his backpack down next to hers and ran a hand through his wet hair, his shirt was starting to stick to his chest but he left it be, not caring.
He grinned when she finally told him her name and offered him one of her cigarettes. He shook his head, "No thanks" he quickly moved over and sat beside her on the steps. "Not really my thing. What I'd really like right now is to know where I can get a drink in this town, you wouldn't happen to know would you? I just moved here with my sister and don't know anything about the town." He leaned back and grimaced "And of course I'm getting stuck here even though the year is almost over. School was already gonna be a waste before the transfer" he rolled his eyes still going on in his head complaining about school and how pointless it was. The only thing he could think of besides school and needing a drink was the girl sitting beside him. Now that he was closer he guessed that she was a bit younger than him, he didn't have an issue with that.
"So, how old are you Demitra?" realizing that her name was a bit of a mouthful he added "Got a nickname?" a few possibilties ran through his head Dem, Demi, Mitra but he wasn't sure so he remained quite and waited for her answer.

When he asked about drinks, she got curious. Anybody that was her age and already drinking must be crazy in the head, but she liked it. "No," she replied, eventually. "I'm new as well." she grinned, "But my mum drinks." And smokes; her new boyfriend was teaching her a lot of things that she used to avoid, and Demi was quickly catching on. She continued, "So, the cabinet in my place is stuffed with alcohol." she leaned back on the steps and smirked, "Mum's always out. It won't be so hard prying the lock open; it's been done before." Mum was so terrible at hiding secrets. She had thought that Demitra was so innocent and righteous that she hadn't even thought of hiding her cigarettes anywhere other than her purse, which was easy to reach. "Fourteen," she told him, "'be turning fifteen next summer. They call me Demi."

He grinned when she told him that she was also new, it was good to know he wasn't the only one dumped into this mess. He scoffed, "My parents wouldn't touch the stuff. I know my sister drinks sometimes but not much. I'm the only one that really does in my family, and none of them would ever even guess it." He listened to her talking about the cabinet and her mom always being gone and smirked again, "That's gotta be nice for you" he nodded at her cigarette, "You probably got those from your mom too, right?" He was beginning to like this girl more and more, she had an interesting name and was only about a year younger than him.

"Well, her new beau is a fucking douchebag. He's both a smoker and a drinker. A manslut, too. I only fancy the fact that e has stuff I need." She couldn't keep the anger out of her voice, and she didn't bother explaining what 'stuff' she needed. She studied him again; he was pretty cool, and cute, too. Probably not as hardcore as she was, as he turned down her cig offer, but still a rebel. She nodded before smirking, "Maybe you can come over sometime. My mum is out tonight. Going to one of 'em work parties. How 'bout you and me have a little fun?"

He could tell from her tone that she didn't like the guy her mom was with but understood what she meant about getting her stuff. He had always had to hide his stuff, even his tattoo, his parents would have flipped if they knew about any of it. They still thought he was an innocent little angel who couldn't do a thing in the world wrong. He saw her smirk and a small smile came to his own face, which grew into his smirky grin when she invited him over. "I'd be up for that. Where do you live at?"

"Millberry Lane." she grinned, "House is open since mum will be out the whole day, and I'm pretty sure that my brother will be out with his newly found mates." Demi rubbed the cigarette over the pavement, setting it out. "How 'bout a party? We can pop some bottles, get to know some people, and get wasted. Great start for a couple of newbs, huh? We'll show them who runs this town now." The idea was starting to appeal to her more and more whenever she thought about it. She needed a few drinks and a few friends; people who she could keep on their toes like this guy - somebody to follow her around and get drunk with her. She needed some punks to hang around. "Wanna ditch school in the meantime?" Demi licked her lips, "Mum doesn't leave until two o'clock in the evening for work, so we can sneak in then."

Soren grinned when she suggested a party "That sounds great, can't wait for all the fun." Everything that she was suggesting sounded amazing to him, he hadn't partied in a while with the move and everything his parents had been home more often. Right now drinking was just what he needed and some friends to party with wouldn't hurt either. When she brought up ditching he smirked "I was already planning on it." He glanced around "We'd better get going before someone sees us and ruins our plans."

This kid was interesting. "I like you." Demi stated, frankly, smirking at him. At first, she had thought Riverside to be a town full of duds. She had assumed that she would never find other kids like her; not like the ones back home. She used to hang around this group of kids; the type that wear heavy makeup and have mohawks and different colored hairstyles. The kinds that everybody was afraid of, but everybody knew they could rely on for a great party. "Let's go, then." This day was turning more interesting that she had thought. "No boring books and dumb teachers for me." Demi breathed a sigh of relief. 'Any ideas where to go first?"

Soren just smirked back and said "you're not too bad yourself" with wink. He stood up and picked up his backpack, flinging it over one shoulder, he held out his other hand to help her up. He could already tell they were going to be good friends. She wasn't boring like all the other kids their age, she was fun and interesting but not weird and awkward. When she asked where they should go "Not really, but I guess we should avoid the main areas in town. Is the park out of the way enough? I've heard my cousins talk about a forest and a lake before" he shrugged "I really don't give a care as long as it's not here."

She stood up as well and practically dragged her backpack down the steps. She wiped her cheek; her mascara probably smeared from all the rain. She thought about the forest, but it wouldn't be an exactly ideal place to smoke, considering that she would be surrounded by a thicket of trees. She started thinking about the lake. It seemed like a good idea. The lake near her house in England had always been her friends' meeting place. It was always so quiet there and peaceful, and away from the rest of society. She assumed it would be the same at the lake in Riverside... Hopefully, at least. "Lake sounds good." she said, with a smirk, "...maybe we can even go skinny-dipping."

When she picked the lake he nodded, he actually knew where that was at. "Slightly surprising, I know where the lake is at" he said aloud. When she mentioned skinny-dipping he couldn't help but beam a smirk, in Florida he had always had trouble talking anybody into skinny-dipping and now he wasn't even the one that suggested it. He was liking Demi more and more with each suggestion she made, "Where have you been all my life?" he laughed a bit. With the smirk still glued to his face he shook his head and set off towards the lake.

Demi smiled when he agreed. People often found skinny-dipping weird, including some of her 'tough' friends. She liked that she didn't have to try to talk this guy into doing it. When he asked where she had been all his life, she grinned, "I was about to ask you the same." she responded truthfully, following him to the lake, wherever it was. She was super excited to get into the water - she always loved water, even when she was a child.
sorry this is short!
