Stephanie walked in the store. She knew she'd be in town for the day and had no idea why she had forgotten to pack snacks for the little kids and to restock the diapers in the diaper bag. She clearly was so focused on house hunting that she'd forgotten she had four little ones.
Ehron had gone with Lilly to find a dress for her friends sweet sixteen party (the one that was going to be the "greatest party ever" --and had some one hit wonder rapper that Stephanie had never heard of). She swore these kids focused way too much on looks, but (in accordance to the rules of the party) she had agreed to buy a pink and silver dress for the occassion. Nicki and the baby had been dropped off at the mall, so it was just them. And of course Benji was cutting a few extra teeth in back, so he was passing the most volatile stools ever and was one diaper away from being diaperless.
She placed Benji in the front of the buggy and Cammy in the big part. There was no point in fussing with Snook on why she should be put in the buggy because she would just climb out and risk breaking her neck. That child had no fear. She was climbing out of her crib before she was even two. She was definitely the only kid she ever knew to have a "big girl bed" at eighteen months.
She decided to state her rules from the beginning.
Stephanie: "Okay girls. Remember, one snack each. And if you get something sweet, you have to have eaten all of your lunch first.
They all nodded in understanding.
Stephanie: "Snook, remember you must have at least one hand on the buggy at all times, and Bri, you must stay where I can see you.
Again they nodded okay, and everyone started on their way down to the baby aisle first. She stopped in front of the diapers, looking for the smallest pack of Huggies since she had plenty at home.
Snook: Mommy look! It's Dora!
Stephanie followed the three year olds finger to the Dora themed gummy snacks on the opposite side of the aisle.
Stephanie: Yeah, but your not eat those.
Snook: Yes I am!
Bri: No you're not. You never eat them 'cause you don't like biting off Boot's head.
Snook: I eat backpack!
Stephanie: Let's just find another snack honey. How about I buy Benji some Handy the Mandy gummy snacks, and you can have some of his?
Snook: No, Dora!
Without time to reconsider, Snook had already put three boxes in the cart and was heading for the next, dropping the different themed gummy snacks next to them.
Stephanie: *taking them out* You only need one box Snook.
She handed her the box and put the rest back on the shelf while Bri picked up the fallen boxes. She seemed content, so Stephanie looked back at the aisle and settled on a 26 count of Huggies Pure & Natural organic pampers. She tossed in the corresponding travel size wipes and picked up a bottle of Peach Puffs finger snacks by Gerber, putting them next to Benji.
They traveled onwards to the snack aisle and stopped in front of the nutrigrain bars. Snook spotted a hand sized rubber ball rolling past the aisle and being her typical self, without notice, she let go of the cart and walked to the end of the aisle in attempt to follow the rolling ball.
