It's poetry in motion, when she turns her eyes on

His arms filled with books, Lucas sighed and turned down yet another corner in the hopes of finding the check out desk. He had spent most of the past hour desperately searching for a way out of the library with no success whatsoever. It was as though every twist and turn that he made led him further and further into the abyss of identical bookshelves. He was not expecting the library to be this difficult to navigate. It was even bigger than the one at his old high school, a fact which puzzled him because the town of Riverside seemed much smaller than Mabtown by comparison.

As he rounded yet another unknown corner, he caught a glimpse of something, or rather someone, that caused him to nearly drop his books. Kara? She's alive? Given the sudden circumstances of the hurricane, he had been pleasantly surprised to see exactly how many familiar faces had been relocated to Riverside. This pretty face, however, was the best surprise out of all of them. There was just one problem though. He had no idea what to say to her.

Sure, they had gone out for hot chocolate once and shared a somewhat forced dance together at the Christmas concert, but that wasn't much to talk about. There were only so many ways to say 'I had a great time'. Yeah, he was thrilled that she wasn't a hurricane casualty, but saying 'I'm so glad that you're not dead' was not the best way to start a conversation. Where was Monte when he needed him? He'd know what to do. Before he could text his much cooler friend for advice, her name slipped from his lips, possibly alerting to her his presence. "K-Kara?"

Lucas froze in place when he heard her call out his name, his hopes of not being discovered completely dashed. He didn't want her to see him like this. He had wanted to start off their next meeting with some cool pick-up line or memorable greeting like those popular guys on the teen soap operas that kept his sisters glued to the TV. Standing in the corner of a library and randomly whispering her name to himself was not memorable at all; it was downright creepy. "Uh..hey Kara," he said glancing over nervously at her. Noticing that she was smiling at him, he got up his nerve and made his way over to her. "I've been, um, good," he said, pulling out one of the chairs and sitting down. "I'm sorry I didn't call you either. I should have."

Why was she staring at him like that? Did he have something stuck in his teeth? Or was it simply because he was weird? Lucas was afraid that it was the latter choice. He had hoped that all of his awkwardness had vanished away in Mabtown with the hurricane. Riverside was a new town, a new chance for him to start over. If he played his cards right for the next year and a half, there was a good chance that he would actually wind up being popular in his own right, instead of a shy wallflower with popular good-looking siblings. "I-I know a little bit about chemistry," he managed to say. "Not a lot though....so, uh, how have you been?" Wow, nice segway.....so much for trying to sound cool.....
