Feeling a little thirsty, Sophie made a risky move and took another sip of her milk. "Why, you're quite welcome Mr. Vic," she said with yet another giggle. "I'm glad to hear that's its not that horrible." She thought about her large extended family and smiled. "My siblings are pretty cool too. My older sister Alexia can be mean sometimes, but she's been like that for awhile, so I pretty much ignore it." She glanced at her watch and frowned. Where did the time go? "I think it's nice that you like other animals. I love animals."

Vic finished off his lunch and milk and smiled at her again. He nodded as she talked about her family, although she didn't really say much about them. "Well, maybe she's just misunderstood. Most of the time I feel like that's why people are mean. They're in a weird place in their lives." He shrugged lightly and nodded toward the window where they were to leave their trays. "You finished with your lunch?" he asked. He stood and nodded. "Yeah, well, I love animals, kids and music, not that I'm musically talented. I think I kind of got fucked over on that musical talent boat. Bo and Cybill are musically inclined, but that gift skipped right over me. I have no rhythm."

Sophie nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, definitely!" She was more than happy to chuck her pathetic excuse of a lunch in the garbage. "I guess you're right," she said, as she stood up. "She was much nicer when I first met her. But then our parents split up and well....she changed...." Not wanting to put a damper on things, she plastered on a smile and changed the subject. "Awww, I get what you mean. I have musical siblings, but I can barely sing at all. I'm sure you're creative in other ways though. I know I am."

Vic smiled at her as she got up and walked with her to the tray-return window and nodded at her story. Since she'd changed the subject so quickly, he figured she didn't want to talk about her parents splitting up, let's face it, who would? So he steered clear of that and moved on to her next subject. He nodded, "Yeah. I can't sing and I have zero rhythm, but I can listen all day long..." He grinned and shrugged, "I mean, I guess so... I can't paint, draw or do anything like that... I can color in the lines really well..."

Sophie laughed as she emptied the contents of her tray, turning up her nose at the horrible smell. "I'm a fashion designer," she said proudly. "Well, I'm trying to be one. I've made a few things for my sister and her friends, but you can't buy my clothes at a store or anything. At least not yet anyways." She laughed again, trying to offset the boastfulness in her voice. She was so confident in her abilities that she couldn't help but brag every once in awhile. "Coloring in the lines is a great thing," she added, patting him on the shoulder. "If I ever need someone to color in my sketches, I'll definitely give you a call."

Vic emptied his tray as well and set it down, looking at her, very interested in what she was saying. "Wow. I'm impressed, really. I can't do anything creative, really. I'm kind of a dud when it comes to that. I'm the man when it comes to coloring, though. I would definitely call me if I were you. World's Best Colorer. Legit." He smirked and shoved his hands in his pockets, "We still have about ten minutes of lunch left. Wanna take a walk with me?" He wanted to know more about this girl. He wanted to figure out why he was so drawn to her and why she seemed so interesting. Bo and Jersey had been trying to se him up with Jersey's little sister for years, but she didn't seem half as intrigueing (sp?) as this girl. Fun, sure. Awesome, sure, but as for his interest it wasn't there like it was right now.

Sophie put her tray down and smiled. "Thanks, if you ever need a new shirt or something, just let me know." She began idly twirling a piece of her hair around her fingers. "Coloring's very creative. I mean, they don't tell you what colors to use in the pictures; you have to use your imagination and decide for yourself. I could use someone creative like you to help me color, so I'll definitely call you." Even before she had made the suggestion, she knew that she had wanted to call him some time and her reasons had nothing to do with coloring. She knew that a part of her should feel guilty about it, but she really didn't. Her and Chris were on a break and had at least one thousand miles currently separating them. Plus, Vic seemed like a pretty easy person to talk to, even easier than Chris. "I'd love to take a walk with you." Even if he didn't see her in that way, then at least she'd made a really cool new friend.

Vic laughed lightly as she went on about coloring and creativity. "I feel like it doesn't actually take a super creative person to choose the colors a picture will be." He started out of the cafeteria and shook his head lightly. "But I'll hang out with you and color your pictures if you tell me what colors to use, because I don't want to ruin a design by making it the wrong color. If I've learned anything from my sister it's that some things look bad in certain colors." He smirked thinking about the time he accidentally dyed her favorite tank top from white to green. "So, Sophie. Sophie, Sophie. What do you like most about Riverside? I know it's not the cafeteria food. I know it's probably not the people. So what should we say it is?"

Sophie shook her head as she followed him out of the cafeteria. "I'm sure you won't ruin them. For all you know, it might wind up being the latest thing, thanks to you making something a different color." She smiled at his comment about his sister. "Your sister does kind of make a good point. I mean, if something's a zebra print, it should be black and white. Then again my older sister has a zebra print that's pink and black. It doesn't look too bad, but I'm not sure...." She quickly stopped herself before she could say any more. She could go on at length talking about various styles and patterns, but she was pretty sure that he would be bored within seconds. Relieved that he had changed the subject, she immediately answered his question. "I love the beach. We live on Seaview, so we're right on it. I used to live in a beach house when I was a kid, but we moved when I was nine. The views from our house are just amazing." She glanced over at him and smiled yet again. "The people are okay, I guess. I haven't really met anybody long enough to have a decent conversation, until today, that is."

Vic smiled and nodded, "I like the beach too. I've not been in forever." He nodded again. He really did love the beach, he'd forgotten how much. It seemed strange since he'd played hockey his entire life it seemed odd for him to be one for the heat, but he loved it. "So you live on the beach? That's awesome. I would bet its gorgeous..." As they walked down the hall together he smiled at her. "Well let me tell you, in my opinion, a good conversation comes very rarely around here. You gotta take those and run with them, which is what I was trying to do when I asked you to walk with me."

Sophie's smile grew wider as he mentioned that he loved the beach as well. "Yeah, it really is great. All you have to do is walk down our back patio steps and you're right there." She kept walking alongside him, a faint blush starting to spread across her cheeks. "You should come by my house after school some time. The beach really isn't that crowded during the week. We could walk or hang out or something." She normally wasn't this forward with people, but he sounded like he was fishing for an invitation to the beach and she was more than happy to oblige. "Yeah, I think good conversations are pretty rare too. I can't remember the last time that I've really had one. I'm glad you decided to run with ours."

Vic nodded at her and he shook his head. "I can't even imagine that. It must cost a fortune to live on the beach like that." He sighed lightly, imagining it. "I don't know if I could ever live on the beach, though. I wouldn't ever want to do anything and that would probably turn out badly in the long run." He laughed at his own thought and then looked over at her. "But I would definitely love to come hang out with you after school one day. Sounds like a blast. And I would love to walk, but I'm also going to bring my swimsuit because I can't go to the beach without swimming. Well, I mean, I can, but just in case, because I'm pretty sure clothes won't stop me." He laughed again and nodded at her last few sentences. "Of course I ran with it. It's the best conversation I've had in ages and with a pretty girl at that. There's no way in the world that I would miss out on the chance to walk with you."

"Yeah, I guess it might. I don't really know much about house prices and stuff like that." Like most of her other siblings, Sophie was simply along for the ride. When their mom announced that they were moving to Riverside, she just climbed in the car with everyone else and asked no questions. She wasn't even sure if her brothers and sisters knew how much their house cost. "Great! I'll bring my suit too. I don't know why I didn't think of that before." His next statement caused her to nearly melt on the spot. "Awwww thanks. You're really sweet too. And funny....and cute...." She paused in mid-sentence, realizing that she was on the verge of majorly flirting with him. Technically, it wasn't a bad thing, but she didn't want to come on too strong. After all, they'd only just met twenty minutes ago.

Vic nodded, that definitely made sense, a lot of kids didn't know how much their parents' houses cost. He only knew how much his house cost because their parents sat down with each of them and showed them how much everything cost in their house when they turned fifteen. Utilities, house payment, car payment, taxes. He never would have known how much it cost if they hadn't showed him that. In knowing how much his house was, he knew that beachfront property had to be so much more expensive. Vic smiled at her as she thought about the bathing suit. He blushed a little as she complimented him, he wasn't exactly used to that, it was usually more along the lines of 'Get out of the way, douche hole' or 'Why are you sitting in this chair? Cant you see it has my name on it?' The compliments weren't a normal thing for him to receive. "Thanks..." he said lightly, he wasn't sure what else to say, he'd lost all of his composure which made his face turn an even deeper shade of red.

Sophie couldn't help but notice the sudden blush on his face. Wow, he even looks cute when he blushes, she thought to herself as she smiled at him. She had thought that Chris was it for her. She knew that was a silly way to think, especially considering that he was sixteen and she was only in junior high at the time. However, for the past two and half years, she had never even remotely noticed another boy. It had always been Chris, even when he wasn't around. No other boy ever caused her to turn her head, not even once. Yet, she'd just met Vic and had somehow morphed into a smiling, giddy puddle of mush within seconds. "You're welcome....." she said, her voice trailing off slightly. "Ummm, how old are you? I'll be 16 in July. I'm a sophomore." Based on past experience, she couldn't help but wonder if he was the same age as her. As she waited for his response, she prayed silently that he wasn't a senior that would be gone next year.
