Glad that she'd asked a question so that he wasn't just standing there looking stupid, Vic smiled and looked over at her, "I'm 15," he answered quickly, he wasn't really sure what had come over him or why he was so nervous now. It must have been her compliments, he didn't think she thought that he was funny, so he hadn't been worried about it, but now he just didn't want to screw it up. He tried to play it off, cooler than he had been in the past few seconds, "I'll turn 16 in August. August 1st to be exact. I'm a sophomore too." He shrugged, he was actually supposed to be a junior, but his mother had held him at home for an extra year because he was such a shy child he would have just cried all day.

Sophie nearly breathed a sigh of relief. "Since I'm on July 3rd, that makes me twenty-nine days older than you." That was certainly a departure from a three year age difference. Even if he didn't feel the same strange connection that she felt, at least she'd have a guaranteed friend for the rest of her high school career. "So you like older women?" she randomly blurted out. The second the question left her mouth, she quickly turned bright red and covered her lips immediately. She had meant as more of a joke, at least it had seemed that way in her head, but it wound up sounding like a really bad pickup line. "August 1st, huh?" she asked, trying to quickly change the subject. "That means you're a Leo. You don't really seem like one. Unless you have some hidden evil streak or something."

Vic nodded, glad that they were back to normal conversation instead of the compliments. He froze for a second with her question, but then started laughing. Not just any kind of laughter, this was hysterical laughter. Over the top hysteria. He didn't understand what he found so funny about that comment, but it hit him in just the right spot. He had to stop and bend down, hands on his knees to keep from falling over. When he stood back up, settling down and wiping tears from his eyes he shook his head, "Wow, I'm sorry for that. But yes, apparently I do like older women." He let out one last sigh and the shrugged, "I don't really buy into the whole stars thing but I suppose I've got a mean streak. Like a kitten mean streak. It's a playful mean."

The sound of his laughter caused Sophie to break out into laughter for two entirely different reasons. Mainly, she was relieved about the fact that he didn't think her comment was out of line, but she also found his laughter to be highly contagious. After managing to stop herself, she took a huge breath. "That's alright. It was a pretty funny thing to say." She smiled as he mentioned that he liked older women. Even though he had laughed really hard, she still hadn't expected him to answer the question. "Good, I have three older sisters. I'll see what I can do." She laughed again to let him know that she was just joking. "Wow, kitten mean, huh? Our cat can actually be nasty at times. I'll make sure that I never get on your bad side."

Vic smiled at her and nodded, glad that he hadn't made her feel stupid. He laughed again with her next joke and shook his head. "Nah, don't worry about it, it's totally chill," he said. "I doubt they'd be interested anyway," he said with a wink. He continued down the hall and nodded, "Yeah man, cats can be vicious. My kitten attacked my leg the other day. I've got the scratches to prove how mean they are. It hurts."

Sophie giggled a little at the thought of him dating either of her sisters. Ironically, all of her sisters were single, so it was a good idea in theory, but the actual reality of it was just insane. "Yeah, they probably wouldn't be all that interested. Plus I'm kind of weird about fixing my sisters up with guys that I.....I'm friends with. I kind of like to keep my friends all to myself, you know?" She kept walked down the hall, heading in the direction of her locker. "Awwww I'm so sorry," she said, a sympathetic look across her face. She knew all too well the pain of being injured by a cat. "Our cat Angela once bit my hand while I was trying to feed her breakfast one morning before school. It was extremely hard for me to write that day."

Vic nodded, "Oh yeah, that totally makes sense," he said with a smile. He was very aware what it was like to share friends with your older sister. It wasn't the best thing in the world. He shrugged lightly again, it wasn't that big a deal. He was just making conversation really, his kitten was still small, but he wasn't strong enough to do that much damage, but he could definitely see how a cat bite would make it difficult to write. Cat bites hurt like hell. "Ouch. Sounds very painful," he said lightly.

"Yeah it was really painful," Sophie said, wincing a bit at the memory. Luckily for her, it had only been a one time thing. Angela had gotten much better since then. She was about to ask him some more questions about the kitten until she glanced at her watch and realized that they were nearing the end of lunch. "Ugh, I gotta go soon. This really sucks." After walking down the hall a bit longer, she found her locker and opened it. "I got chemistry next period. I hate it. It's so boring." Science was never an easy subject for her; she always found it to be difficult. She knew that today would be even more challenging because she'd be thinking about their conversation the whole time.

Vic nodded. He nodded again at her second statement. "It does suck. I'm sorry. I've got a music history class next period, pretty boring too, but we're about to start a huge teaching project, so maybe it'll get more interesting." He licked his lips. "I'll tell you what, you have a piece of paper and a pen?" he asked. "I'll give you my number and you can text me if you get too bored in your chemistry class." He smiled lightly. "Or if you wanna go for a swim in the ocean I suppose. Or maybe out for a bite to eat?" he asked lightly, a friendly smile sitting on his lips.

Sophie smiled and eagerly grabbed a pen and tore a piece of paper out of her notebook. "Here's my number," she said, jotting it down and handing it to him. "You can text me anytime you want." She then handed him the pen and another sheet of paper. "And that's for you to give me your number. I can promise that I'll definitely text you. Because I would love to do both of those things. I think we both deserve to have a meal that doesn't taste like trash." A part of her wondered if he wanted to hang out as just friends or if he wanted to make it a date. It didn't really matter to her; she was excited either way.

Vic smiled at her and folded the paper, putting it in his back pocket. He took the pen from her and wrote his number down. "There you go," he said, handing her the pen back. He smiled again. "I agree. Disgusting lunch is not fun for anybody." He sighed lightly and then pursed his lips a little, "So I guess I'll talk to you later, then?" he said lightly before turning and starting to walk in the direction of his locker.

Sophie grinned and took the paper and pen back. "You'll definitely be talking to me later. I'll make sure of it." She watched him walk away and sigh. What was wrong with her? Sure, Chris had told her that they should take a break and see other people, but she didn't think she'd actually meet anybody. She had been so hung up on Chris that she thought she'd just wait for him to come to his senses and everything would be fine. Now everything was different. She'd actually managed to met someone that made her want to forget all about Chris. Yet, she wasn't sure. Even though Vic said he didn't have many friends, it was still possible that he had a girlfriend. She picked up her books and headed to class, having already decided one thing. Girlfriend or not, she was definitely going to see him again.
