"You want to go for a walk?" Regan asked her son after breakfast, and the child yawned. "Yes!" he exclaimed excitedly, clinging to Regan's arm. "Come on, then." Regan smiled at him, then ran a hand through her reddish-brown hair. "Can we go to the lake?" she asked Skye. He nodded slowly. "Okay!" he exclaimed happily, skipping quickly. "Come on, then." The two walked on the sidewalk, holding hands, Skye trailing behind, but skipping quickly. "Are we there yet?" he asked, coming to a stop. "My feet hurt! Momma!" Regan knelt down to him for a few moments, then a smile appeared on her face. "We're here." she told him, looking around. Skye looked around quickly, then giggled, "There it is!" The four year old boy started running towards the crystal-like lake, splashing in the water. "Skye!" Regan called out towards him. "You didn't dress for swimming!" she bit her lip, wondering if Skye would get an infection or get sick from the lake water. She held out her hand, but Skye just started tugging her arm, and she nearly tripped into the lake. "Ah!" she squealed, then tugged Skye out of the water, finally.
Skye shook his black hair, his brown eyes looking up at Regan. "Sorry, momma." he murmured, then tugged on her arm. "The water isn't cold." he giggled. "Can I please swim? Please, please, please." Regan knew that she had to take control of her son, so she shook her head. "Sorry, Skye." she told him. "Maybe, we can go to the pool later." Skye's face brightened up quickly. "Okay!" he squealed, and started running on the grass, towards another person. "No, wait--Skye!" Regan called after her son, but Skye was already tugging on this guy's arm. "Oh, um, sorry." she murmured.

Shane slowly walked along the lakes edge, flicking on and off his lighter with his other hand in his pocket. He sighed softly, closing his lighter before making his way to a rock, leaning against it and closing his eyes. He began flickering his lighter again, his other hand on the ground beside him. It was fairly quiet, nobody was here but him, which was a good thing. He had left the house to be alone, and he didn't want people to disturb him. Shane soon found he wouldn't get that peace though, when he heard a little boy's voice and a squeal from what sounded to be a girl. He kept his eyes closed, thinking that if he didn't move they wouldn't notice him. Shane opened his eyes when he felt a tug on his arm. He stopped playing with his lighter, his gaze moving from the little boy gripping his arm to the girl apologizing. He pulled his arm away, leaning back against the rock and closing his eyes. "It's fine." He muttered, hoping the people would go away.

Regan looked up at the blonde man, then quickly grabbed Skye's hand. "Don't--" she warned him, and the boy quickly nodded. "Sorry." he told the man as he shook off Skye's arm. "What's that?" he curiously asked, pointing to Shane's lighter. "Again, I apologize..." her voice trailed off, and a small blush appeared on Regan's cheeks. She was embarrassed that her son had walked up to some random guy, tugged on his arm, and asked him what the lighter was. And to make it worst, this guy didn't look like he was the type to give Skye a friendly hello, and then say it's alright. She closed her light brown eyes, and pulled Skye back, next to her. Skye still was pointing up at the lighter. "Momma, what's that?" he asked. Regan wondered how Shane would respond. What was he going to say? She opened her eyes again, and looked down at Skye, who still was pointing.

"It's fine." Shane said again when the girl kept apologizing. "You don't have to keep saying sorry." He opened his eyes, turning his head to look at the little boy. He raised his arm with the lighter, flickering it on to show the fire. "It's a lighter." He said simply, closing it again and sticking it in his pocket. "You use it to burn things."

Skye looked more curious than ever. Regan knew that it meant that Skye was going to keep bugging Shane. "What are you going to burn?" he quickly asked, "Oh, and what's your name? How old are you?" Regan tugged on Skye's arm, starting to walk back towards the lake, but Skye's feet were on the ground firmly, and Regan knew that Skye was struggling to keep himself from being pulled away. "Come on, Skye!" she called. "Wait!" Skye whined at her.

Shane could handle kids to a certain point before they started annoying him, and this kid with all his questions was starting to work on his nerve. He closed closed his eyes with a sigh, trying to reign his anger in. "I'm not burning anything." He said, keeping his eyes closed. "And my name is Shane." The kid didn't need to know his age, it didn't matter.

"Oh yeah?" Skye stood on the tip of his toes, trying to match Shane's height. "Then why do you have a lighter? Do you play with it?" Regan bit her lip hard, then finally was able to pull Skye next to her. "I'm Skye!" he said with a giggle, "Nice to meet you, Shane. This is my momma, Regan." Skye pointed at Regan.

Shane opened his eyes again, looking at the little boy. "Yes I do play with it. Is that a problem?" He was trying hard to stay calm but he could feel his resolve quickly slipping away. "Hello Skye." He sighed, and then flickered his gaze up to his mother, who looked like she would die of embarrassment. "Hello Regan."

Skye curiously eyed the lighter. "Can I play with it--" he started, but Regan cut him off quickly, "No." Skye let out a whine, "Why? Please, Shane?" he asked, looking up at Shane with big, brown eyes. Regan pulled him back, "No, Skye. You'll get burned." Skye crossed his arms, then closed his eyes. "Hmph. Shane's not burned, now is he?" Regan looked up at Shane. "Hello Shane." she responded, then back at Skye. "No. I told you already, Skye, you're not going to play with that lighter. Do you want to get burned?" Skye seemed irritated, and like he was about to grab Shane's lighter and start playing it, no matter what anybody said.

"No, listen to your mom. You'll get burned and start crying." Shane put his lighter back into his pocket. "I'm not burned because I know what I'm doing. You'll only hurt yourself." Shane wondered what was wrong with the kid, and why his mother had such a hard time controlling him. It reminded him briefly of himself but he shook the thought away and sighed.

Regan looked at Skye, her eyes serious. "See?" Skye nodded, "Sorry." he mumbled, then looked back at Shane. He crossed his arms, "I'm not going to start crying." he told him. Regan's eyes softened. "Thanks." she smiled, though she knew she shouldn't be thanking him--nobody should say that he could play with their lighter. Skye sighed.

"Yeah, sure kid." Shane said, smirking. "I'll believe it when I see it." He glanced up at Regan, shaking his head. "No need to thank me." He said. "It's fine." He wasn't as annoyed as before, he'd calmed down a bit. Standing, Shane stretched, backing away and leaning against the rock again.

Skye looked annoyed by Shane. He stood on the tip of his toes, trying to look taller. "I don't cry." he told him, his eyes closed. Regan smiled, "How old are you?" she asked curiously. He looked about the same age as herself. She tucked a strand of her reddish-brown hair behind her ear, and smiled slightly.

"That's a good thing kid." Shane said, shaking his head. "You still can't play with fire. Maybe when you're older." He hated when people said that to him, but he said it anyway. Shane sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. What's up with these guys and wanting to know my age? "I'm 19." He responded, looking at Regan. "You?" He was trying hard to keep his annoyed attitude, wishing they would go away, but they obviously weren't leaving and he was quickly getting used to them being around.

"Fine." Skye stuck his tongue out. "I'll wait until I'm older. Next year, then. I should be old enough. Right, Shane?" Regan shook her head. "You're not going to be able to play with a lighter then, Skye. Not until you're way older." Skye looked even more annoyed, and sighed, and nodded. "Same." Regan told him with a small smile, though she noticed Shane looked a little annoyed. "I'm four." Skye told him, still sticking his tongue out. "That's old enough." Regan shook her head. "I told you, no."
