Brody ambled towards the lake, wondering how on earth he'd gotten yet another tiny sliver of free time. He smiled ruefully at the thought of how long it had been since he'd hung out just by himself doing absolutely nothing. Even hanging at the club meant that there was a chance a girl could catch his attention. He sat down on a large rock and stared out over the water.
He bent down and picked up a handful of smooth stones from the waters edge and held them in his hand for a moment. Taking one into his left hand, he weighed it quickly, then tossed it and watched it skip over the water before sinking heavily. He tossed the others, each one stopping further than the one before.

Apollo had been at the lake for the past hour, sleeping on the large boulder by the water. He had once again needed to take a quick exit from his family; this time however it wasn't because of a prank that had gone awry but because his sister Amelia had continued to badger him about what he knew that she didn't. He knew he should have told her but he also knew that his sister's heart would break from the news, and he wanted to take pains in preventing that from happening ever again. He sighed softly and removed his aviator sunglasses to look straight into the clear blue sky.
He made a face when he started hearing splashes coming from nearby. Apollo sat up after running a hand through his hair; there was a boy, probably younger than him who was skipping stones. Apollo quirked a brow, clearly impressed. "I sucked at doing that; I think my little sister, Sasha, is better at it than I am and she's 16."

Brody started at the voice nearby, and turned. Smiling, he shrugged his shoulders lightly. "Sign of a misspent youth I guess." He chuckled lightly and extended his right hand. "Brody Arthur. One of two remaining misfits as far as I'm aware."
He studied the boy before him, trying to work out if he'd seen him before. Deciding he hadn't, he smiled. "Are you a native Riversider or did you migrate with the rest of us refugees from MABTown?"

Apollo slid off the large boulder neatly, moving to shake the boy's hand. He grinned, "Apollo Anderson; eldest and only male of the Anderson household." He didn't really know what the misfits were but he asked anyway, "So who's the other misfit then?"
Pol mimicked his shrug and laughed as he spoke. "Neither; we just moved here to live close to my aunt and her family. She was the one from MABTown; I dunno if you've heard of her and her family. The Tays." Apollo smiled a bit and picked up a smooth stone; it wasn't flat so it wasn't great for skipping but he took it anyway, looking and scrutinizing it before glancing at Brody. "You look too young to be looking so worried; what's on your mind Brody Arthur?"

Brody grinned up at him mischeviously. "Jackson Howard. There were a bunch of us, but we've all sort of gone our own separate ways. So it's just me and Jack now and I guess we're a little old to be playing pranks."
He nodded, a frown creasing his forehead. "Yeah, I think I remember them. My sister Jade was friends with...erm...a girl. Sorry. I don't remember. But they had that place in little Tokyo."
At his next question, he laughed mirthlessly and shook his head. "You don't wanna know man. Seriously, it's so complicated I'm not sure I want to be involved anymore, not that that's actually an option." Sighing, he lifted a corner of his mouth attempting to smile once more. "You don't look so chipper yourself."

(( I didn't know Jack was a misfit. Rofl. ))
Apollo quirked a brow at that and smirked. "If you're too old to be playing pranks then what am I? Besides, playing pranks on people... It never gets old." He chuckled and shrugged; he had heard about the cafe his family had owned back in MABTown. "I'm guessing you mean Georgie or Yume then; they practically lived at the cafe... For different reasons of course; Georgie was there for her cooking and Yume was there for her boyfriend." He raised both eyebrows, only then realizing why his last name was familiar. "Your Dan Arthur's younger brother then? He's seeing my little cousin, Aya." He chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck as he sat down on the ground, crossing his legs. "Sorry; there are no secrets in our family."
He grinned. "Oh really? Why don't you try me?" It was his turn to wince when Brody asked about his problems. "Well, why don't we trade stories? I don't have to be anywhere for a while so you can tell me what's got you so worried and I'll tell you my problems." Apollo laughed. "Think of it as male therapy; I promise I won't tell anyone."

Brody nodded. "Yeah, that's the one. Georgie, the one who cooked stuff. Jade kept bringing stuff home for us to try. Most of it was really good actually." He stopped short at the mention of Dan, his face clouding over. "Oh sure, and I'm sure he's a perfect gentleman with her right? Never does anything to upset her, he's the model boyfriend."
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Sorry. That wasn't necessary. I-he's just a little hard to take right now along with all this other crap. I uh...it's ok if you tell people I guess, it's not really a secret. I'm gonna be a dad in about 4 months."

( YOU'RE!!! Sorry that was a typo up there. .___. )
Apollo laughed. "Yeah her; she's been making a lot of new stuff lately; it's all pretty good isn't it?" He watched the reaction on Brody's face change to one of annoyance and he put up his hands in surrender. "Hey man, I don't really talk to Aya about that kind of thing so I wouldn't know." He chuckled softly. "Don't worry; even if it's a secret, I'm not the type of person to tell random shit to a person anyway." Apollo grinned. "I guess congratulations are in order then?"
The way Brody was looking though, he knew that the pregnancy definitely was not a planned one. "So what happens now? Is anything wrong with the mother? Are you two together? Dan's probably mad about that huh?" Danian had the right to be angry; it seemed like this kid had been fooling around and his mistake had resulted in a life. Apollo had no right to judge however and didn't say anything.

Brody shrugged, feeling deflated. "I guess. I mean, I'm excited about the baby and everything but.. It's more complicated than that. I'm not with the mother - her name is Liesl. She was a one night stand when I was bored. We had each other's numbers and stuff but my phone broke so I didn't call her after. And now I'm sort of seeing Jack's sister Kylie, cause I hung out with her about a week later before I knew about the baby and that's all a mess cause Dan doesn't think I should be. He thinks I should do the "right thing" and marry Liesl."
He held his head in his hands and sighed. "And...I don't know how I feel. About either of them."

Apollo winced at the information Brody gave him. "Hot damn that is complicated." He rubbed the back of his head and thought about what to say. "Well... Do you love this Liesl girl? Or do you love Kylie? You should be with the one you love; I mean you should take responsibility for Liesl and your kid, that was mostly your fault you know..." He chuckled softly. "I'm sure I'm older than you and I never slept with a girl just because I was bored."
Apollo paused and looked at the boy, feeling sorry for him and his predicament. "You can't keep them both Brody and my suggestion is that you decide as soon as you can... Or else you're just going to keep prolonging the agony... For everyone. Not just for you, but for Kylie, for Liesl, and for your kid. Selfish, don't you think?" He offered him a smile to show he didn't mean any harm or judgment; he was just telling it like it was.

Brody glared at Apollo, then turned his head away. "What would you know? I don't think I should marry her just because she got pregnant? I know almost nothing about her. We argue all the time, that's not a good environment for the kid. I'm taking her to all her doctors appointments, and I've got a job now so I can support them. Yeah, I messed up but I'm trying to make it right."
He picked up a rock and threw it as hard as he could into the lake and turned back to him. "Sorry. You just sounded a lot like Dan just then. Kylie... I don't know what it is about her. We have almost nothing in common but I can't get her out of my head. And Liesl...like I said we fight all the time but we never run out of anything to talk about."

Apollo chuckled, knowing it was inevitable that Brody would bite his head off; he was just a kid after all. A kid who was in deep shit from all the things he had done. He was impressed however that Brody was trying to make things right; that was one point for Brody at least. "Hey, hey... I didn't say you had to marry Liesl. You don't even have to marry right now; Jesus Christ you're still what? 17? 18?" He took a breath and ran a hand through his hair was he met Brody's gaze with no fear. "I'm just trying to say that you have to pick one. It's not you can pick one, you have to pick one. And one of them is going to get hurt; that's the conclusion of this story. But the longer you're going to take, it's just going to make everyone hurt for longer, do you understand?" He chuckled softly and shrugged. "It's cool; I kinda know what your older brother was trying to tell you... He may have said it harshly but he had a point, you have to admit it."

Brody groaned and ran his fingers through his hair. "It's that easy huh? Just pick one? And what if I pick the wrong one? I'm not actually dating Liesl right now. I know she wants us to be, but she's being really great about the whole Kylie thing. I think she assumes it's a phase or whatever. I'm 18 in a week by the way."
Running his fingers through his hair again, he turned to Apollo, fighting the urge to get up and kick something, or cry, or both. "Dan isn't my parent ok? So I don't need him lecturing me, I need him to just listen to me. Give me advice if I ask for it. Not just yell at me." Sighing, he looked out over the lake. "So what would you do? Who would you pick if you were me?"

Apollo laughed. "I didn't say it was easy; it could mean a lot of things. I mean, it's life and it deals with people." If there was one thing Apollo Matthias Anderson knew, it was that life was hard and the people who pretended to be strong, were usually the easiest to break. "This is one of the times when you can say you had to make a hard decision. You can't ask me who I'd pick because I don't know them and really this is your life isn't it?" He chuckled softly and looked at Brody who had to grow up pretty fast in less than a year. "I'd pick the girl I loved... The one I know I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life with... But hey, that's just me."
"You know, you should cut Dan some slack. He's probably just as scared and worried as you are. He's scared 'cause this thing-- this thing with the kid, it's going to affect your life Brody... And the decisions you make are going to affect this kid's life too." Apollo shrugged. "I know I have no right to meddle in your affairs, but didn't you ever try to see it from Dan's point of view?"

Brody blinked back furious tears as he listened to Apollo speak. "Dan doesn't need a point of view. Who I date, or don't date has nothing to do with him. It's not like I try to meddle with him, I didn't even know he had a girlfriend." He stared out moodily at the lake, before continuing. "And if I knew who I loved, or even who I liked more, I could choose. But I don't." His mind travelled back to the accidental message he'd sent Liesl, but he frowned and pushed the thought away.
"Some karma god thinks I've obviously had things too good for too long, and I needed some form of giant punishment." He scowled heavily and picked up a few more stones. He tossed one into the river, watching the ripples spread out away from where it had fallen.
