After receiving the text message she's been waiting to receive, Elisabeth wasted no time in getting to where she was needed most. Luckily, it wasn't a long walk from her house, and she was even a couple minutes early than when they were expecting her. As she walked into the store, the bells ringing on top of the door, she was soon greeted by the owner of it all. "Hi Elisabeth." the grey-haired elderly man greeted with his warm smile he always seemed to have on. "Hey Mr. M." she greeted back with just the same warm smile she had on as well. "Any new animals come in lately?" she asked curiously, already looking around the shop eager to make another animal healthy and happy again. The owner led Elisabeth down the hall and in the back room where they had kept many of the animals safe, sound, and healthy. And as usual, Elisabeth's eyes lit up at the sight of the many furry creatures around her. The only thing that broke her heart was that they had no home to go to just yet. "Aww...When did this little guy get in?" she asked immediately, running towards the puppy mix in the first kennel, his nose sticking out of the hole. "Oh, that one just came in yesterday. It's about time to feed him, so if you'd like, he can be your project for today." the man answered. Elisabeth couldn't take her eye off of the creature, as she slowly opened the gate, watching as the pup crawled back in the corner of the cage, but still managed to gently and carefully take the puppy out, holding him in her arms. "I'd love to." she simply put, and immediately got to work, starting with the food and water.

Madalyne was on her way to the animal shelter that day because for two years it had been her day of the week to help out. She went to the Animal Shelter on Tuesdays, the Food Bank on Wednesdays, a free pregnancy clinic every Thursday and the Soup Kitchen every other Friday night. She stepped in and the bell rang and she smiled at the older man, "Hey Mr. M. How have you been?" she asked. She glanced over to the puppy that the other girl was apparently already taking care of, "Oh, he's adorable! Did someone dump him?" she asked lightly, she would probably be working with a Great Dane Pup that she was planning to adopt that had been there for three weeks now. "You still holding onto Athena for me?" she asked, using the name she'd been calling the very young pup.

While watching the little pup scarf down its food, as if he's never eaten it before, Elisabeth heard the bell up at the front. She looked up to see who it was, only to be another volunteer here by the looks of it. She smiled up at her gracefully, moving away the empty bowl the puppy had licked clean, picking him up to give the girl a closer look at him. "Isn't he, though?" she agreed, cuddling him close to her with the great love and care that she has towards animals. "I was told he just came in yesterday." she explained to the girl, stroking the pups head lightly, still in her arms, as she stood up from the floor where she was sitting at. "Hey, isn't Athena that great dane puppy I've been hearing about for a week or so? I've seen her around here, she is so cute."

Mady smiled at the girl and nodded, "He's the cutest thing ever." She licked her lips and smiled. "He just came in yesterday? Well hopefully we can find him a good home really soon then. He looks like he'll go to one." She smiled gently at the girl as she bent down next to her and scratched the small dog behind the ear. "Aren't you just adorable?" she asked lightly, smiling again she looked at the girl, "Yeah, I'm going to adopt her soon. I just have to get everything ready at my house, and my brother's going to install the doggie door to the back yard this weekend, so it should be very soon. She's been my project for the past three weeks," she said with a proud smile. "I've already got her sitting and heeling."

Elisabeth nodded, kissing the pup on the head as it so cutely returned the kiss back to her. "Ohh...and if he doesn't, then I'll have to take him home myself!" she squealed, hugging the dog more, careful not to squeeze him too tightly of course. Although, she already had two other dogs living with them in the house. Who knew what her parents would say to another dog. They probably wouldn't mind, but three dogs with six other kids already living there? There was no way. Not now anyway. "Aww..that's so cute." she piped in, hearing about the Great Dane puppy the girl had been caring for. "That's hopefully gonna be this one real soon. Isn't that right, little one?" she asked the puppy, giving back a shy bark, that sounded more like a squeak, as well as a small kiss to the girl who was scratching behind his ears. "Oh! I still need to pick out a name for you!" Elisabeth just realized, biting her lip while in her train of thoughts for a good name for this new pup.

Madalyne smiled at the girl and stood back up. "I'm really excited." She licked her lips. "Uhm, I'm going to go get Athena. Do you want to take them out to the lawn to play for a while?" she asked with a light smile, she was just very excited to see Athena again, she'd been waiting a week and at this point, the dog was already her baby. She smiled once more before she walked to the back where they had put Athena since she was no longer up for adoption. The dog instantly got excited and started barking. "Hey there baby girl," she said sweetly as she opened the door to the kennel and she jumped up on her. "Athena, no," she said firmly. "Stay down." The dog did as she was told, "Now sit." Once again, she did. "That's a good girl," she said, bending down to pet her as her reward.

"That sounds great! I'm sure they'll get along quite well, actually." she smiled at the girl, following her back with the puppy in her arms, where the Great Dane puppy was held, her face beaming with excitement as soon as she heard her barking. Elisabeth watched carefully as Athena obeyed every word to her future owner, proud to see what a great dog Athena has learned to be in such a short amount of time. "She is so adorable." she let out, scratching behind the ears of the puppy she was currently holding as he started shaking at the sudden barking and excitement that was going on. "Aww, its okay, baby. There's nothing to be afraid of." she reassured the pup, holding him closer in her arms for comfort, though he was still shaking just a little bit. "Let's go out back. Maybe a little playtime and running around will help with this one's nerves." she suggested, leading the girl out the back towards the outside filled with grass that was covered in all sorts of chew toys.

"Good idea," Mady said lightly, picking Athena up into her arms and closing her kennel gate before she started out with the other girl. She followed her through the halls and all the way back to the yard. It was a fenced in play area, sort of like a back yard. As soon as they reached the door she set Athena down and let her run around the yard a few times to lose some of her pent up energy. She looked over at the girl and smiled, "I'm Madalyne by the way. You can call me Mady, though." She licked her lips. "Uhm, do you help out around here often?"

Elisabeth watched as the bigger puppy dashed out the girl's arms, practically chasing her tail in order to get out all that energy she seemed to be holding in that kennel. Elisabeth giggled lightly, setting the puppy in her arms down onto the grass, urging him to go run around himself, and have fun. At first the little pup was still shaking but after a short moment of looking back at Elisabeth for some sort of guidance, he looked back out in the yard, slowly making his way towards the more hyperactive puppy in front of him. Elisabeth simply just smiled, glancing back over at the girl hearing she had introduced herself just now. "Oh. Nice to meet you, Mady. I'm Elisabeth. Um..you can just call me Elisabeth, or if you want a shorter name, my siblings normally call me Lissy." she bit her lip nervously. She had never really gotten used to introduction. She guessed it was the shyness in her that made it difficult really. "And um, well, I have been volunteering at multiple shelters since....well, for as long as I can remember." She bit her lip again, "I like volunteering." she said simply, wondering what Mady's next response to be, as she continued to bite her lip as a nervous habit she contained.
