"So why am I with you again?" Joseph Burkeheart muttered in a gruff voice as he glanced at his not-so-little sister who was ignoring his attempt at being an ass. They crossed the street and she pointed at the diner that had caught her eye the day before. She shook out her blonde mane before grinning at him. "Because Joe, I'm hungry and you're hungry and you have been locking yourself up in your room for days at a time, playing those terribly depressing Cello pieces. Aunt K is nice enough not to say anything but I've seen her wince." Seph sighed at Jackie but didn't bother to defend himself; she had had a point. "Don't call me Joe.", was all he said as he opened the door to Palmer's Burgers and Fries Diner for her.
The two siblings stepped in and Jackie sighed in relief as the warm air hit her. It had been a cold afternoon and though she was appropriately dressed in a teal colored turtleneck, black sweater, jeans and dark boots, the cold still bit at her hands and face. She let her dark blue eyes trail across the expanse of the large diner and she smiled in approval. She tugged her quiet brother along, just as he was unwrapping his scarf from around his neck. "What do you want to eat?", she asked in an excited voice. He looked down at her to meet her eager gaze. Jacqueline Burkeheart was a tiny girl who was lovingly called 'travel sized' by Joseph. "You order for me." He said softly before leaving her to look for a seat. She gave an irritated groan as she trailed after him and slid into the booth opposite the one he was seated at.
A waitress came to take their order and Seph resolutely ignored the waitress as he fiddled with his phone. Jackie gave her an apologetic smile as she spoke, "Sorry about him; he's cranky without food in his tummy. We'll get a vanilla shake, a mint chocolate chip shake and two cheeseburgers and fries." The waitress repeated their order then went off. Jackie kicked her handsome brother under the table and he winced before giving Jackie a glare that could turn weaker people to stone. "You were being rude Joe."

"El, I'm gunna kill you." Joyce folded her arms as her twin dragged her along. "Oh come on Jo-Jo, it's not that bad. I just wanted to hang out today. Is that so bad?" Joyce's girly sister giggled as she wrapped her arm around her shoulders. Joyce rolled her eyes. "Yes. It is. You've taken me to 3 different stores, two malls, and another surf shop. I wanna go home." She glared a head of her, her baggy jeans scrapping the ground under them.
Eleanor sighed. "Well, besides going home, what else would you want to do?" Joyce actually considered her question. "A Skate Shop, or eat." Eleanor hesitated from sighing again. "Fine. We'll stop by for a quick meal, then we'll go to Ron Jon's or something." Joyce grinned, glad she'd won that argumet. They looked for the closest place, being Palmer's Burgers and Fries Diner.
"Psh, cheap place." Joyce commented as they walked in. Eleanor elbowed her and they sat at a table behind two other kids. "What do you want Jo?" Joyce glared at her again. "Surprise me. And don't call me Jo." Eleanor ignored her. When the lady came she smiled, Joyce ignoring her. "Two chocolate milkshakes, cheesecurgers and fries please." The girl nodded and walked off. "You know how rude you are?" eleanor whispered. "You know how much I could care less?" Joyce didn't bother keeping her voice down, but noticed the guy in front of them, casting her eyes down before she thought he'd noticed though.

Jackie put her hands together in delight when their food arrived. She grabbed the mint chip shake and gave Joseph the vanilla one. He sipped it carefully and raised his brows, surprised at the taste. "I like it.", he muttered as he grabbed a french fry and dipped it into the ice-cream like shake before popping it into his mouth. Jackie grinned at him like a Cheshire Cat. "They give free refills for the shakes you know. I'm glad you like it Joe." She grabbed one burger and bit into it, sighing softly as she chewed. It was delicious and she was starving.
Joseph raised a brow at the girl who had been looking at him, before ignoring her. He had always received many looks in his life; his mom had said it was because he was handsome, he thought it was because he had such an impressionable aura that people had to do double-takes for him. Yes, he was a cocky punk ass. He looked at his little sister who was eating like a ravenous beast. He ate a couple of fries and sipped slowly at the milk shake. "Careful Jack, you're going to get yourself sick if you eat that fast." The girl stuck her tongue out as she devoured her burger. "Shut up Joe. I'm starving."

Eleanor smiled at the waitress again as she brought they're food. Joyce sipped her shake, but didn't touch her food. Eleanor raised her eyebrow as she took a bite into her own burger. "Jo, eat your food, I thought you were hungry." "I said, surprise me, I never said I was gunna get it." Eleanor glared at her, but kept eating. Joyce picked at her fries, looking out the window. She wanted to be at the Skate park, not shopping with her girly sister. She slid a stray strand of brown hair that'd slipped out of her pony tail behind her ear, taking a frie and popping it into her mouth. Eleanor sighed. "You know the only reason why you're skinny is because you don't eat." :No the reason we're so skinny is because of our fast metabolisms. Pay attention in biology class." Eleanor was about to retaliate, but remembered they weren't the only ones inside the restaurant . She sighed, calming down and eating her burger again.

Jackie's burger finished, the girl picked at her fries, dipping them in her shake before munching on them. She laughed after she had swallowed and sneakily pointed at the two girls behind her with her thumb. "That one chick, she's just like you Joe. Always complaining. Maybe you should make friends with her." Joseph rolled his eyes and threw a half-eaten french fry at her head just as two other girls came up to them. Joseph looked at each of them with an uninterested eye, barely acknowledging that they were quite pretty. Jackie however, smiled brightly and nodded. "Sure, if you don't mind sitting with my cranky jerk of a brother."

Jackie smiled at the two of them, eager to make friends. It wasn't that she was lonely; if you lived at the Tays, you'd have to be secluded in your bedroom to even consider being lonely. The family was loud, and all up in everyone's face, which made Jackie feel a lot better about moving. They just took everyone in and made you a part of their family. But it was different to have friends of your own and she hoped to make some at Riverside. "Oh really? That's amazing; I wish I could eat anything I wanted and not gain." Seph raised a brow at his little sister and sipped at his shake before replying. "You already do that Jackie." Jackie kicked him under the table again and he winced before giving her another one of his killer glares which she seemed to be impervious to. "Well I'm Jackie and this is my semi-older brother Joseph who is probably the crankiest person I know. It's nice to meet you." She gave them a tiny wave and a bright smile. Seph on the other hand merely muttered. "Just call me Seph."
Jacie rolled her eyes at Joseph's reply as she drank more of her milkshake. "So have you guys lived here long? I heard that most of the people here moved from a different town just recently, like my godmother's family. We're staying with her."

Jackie's smile slipped a few notches before she regained composure and bit into a fry. Joseph raised a brow, as if asking if she was fine and she nodded, laughing a bit. "Well, we live with the Tays here. They used to live in MABTown too, but that was before we moved in with them." She sipped at her shake, looking at Joseph who was quiet all this time. "Our parents died, about a week ago, and they left us with my godmother, mother and aunt of the Tays. We moved in just a couple of days ago. When our parents were still alive, we lived with them in Europe. I say Europe because they liked to move every year or so.", she shook her head as she remembered her step mother who she regarded as her real mother since she had never met her birth mother anyway.

Jackie gave Chiara a smile of appreciation, "Yeah... None of us saw it coming, it was... totally unexpected." Joseph finished his shake and saw that his sister's was almost empty. He picked up both glasses and went to the counter to ask for a refill, ignoring the sad tension that seemed to resonate at their table. If there was one thing Joseph didn't do, it was awkward. Jackie smiled apologetically at the two girls. "He doesn't do awkward, I'm sorry."
He came back with their milkshakes and she thanked her brother who grunted in reply before sipping his shake. "They're great aren't they? They have free refills here too; it's my first time here but I love it already!"

Jackie grinned and nodded, she knew what Chiara meant. Palmer's really did have the best milkshakes in town and the fact that they offered free refills was enough for customers to fill their tables all day, every day. "That's what I was thinking but I'm sure smarty pants here would kill me with his evil eye if I stayed the entire day." She stuck her tongue out at the glaring Joseph before returning to her shake. "We're both seniors at Riverside High but I'm going to the local University once I graduate; creative writing!", she cheered. Joseph actually looked at them. "I may go to an international school if I get accepted; I'm not sure yet.", he murmured softly. "He's a prodigy; plays the Cello.", Jackie piped in.

Joseph shrugged, he didn't really like to be the center of attention but he'd get over it. "Well, I don't know really. My letters for the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of Music in St. Petersburg were both accepted. I also have a scholarship grant from Juilliard but I don't know yet... What are you taking?" He had to smile a little at Mack. "How old's your sister? When did she start? I started with the piano actually but I found the weeping sounds of the cello just a lot more beautiful." Jackie laughed and grinned at their new friends. "My mom used to throw things at him just to make him stop playing."

Jackie grinned at the confident way the two talked about themselves. It was something she could appreciate because before when she used to talk that way back home, she was constantly met with snarky remarks and disdain when she was just showing how great she could be. "Well I started with the piano but I prefer the Cello. I've branched out since then though, bass guitar and drums for a band with my relatives when they have need of me." He chuckled softly. "And sometimes the violin. I prefer string instruments for some reason; it's like they call me to play them." He shrugged his broad shoulders slowly as if he couldn't help the action.
