Kasem let out a sigh as he let his backpack fall onto the cafe table with a louder thunk than he intended. He winced a little, wishing he had managed to steal Thongchai's iPod that morning before running off before his mother could give him any more extra work to "help him." He was doing better in school now, in fact, these days, he was just bored in school. It was no longer he needed the extra help with his English. He slouched in his chair, taking a sip of his white peppermint mocha frappucino before pulling out his school book from the last year. Since they didn't finish the book in school, his mom wanted him to finish it over the summer "so he'd be prepared for the next school year." "สิ่งที่ลาก (What a drag)..." He grumbled to himself, pulling out his pencil and doodling on the edge of the booklet page.

One of Lauryn's favorite day of the year, Summer, was finally here. And while she normally played outside, either in her own backyard with the dog or in the park, she still had dance class. She was just coming back from it, and decided to stop by the mall for some food before heading back home. She skipped happily down the way towards the food court, with her duffle bag swinging by her side. She passed a couple of food stands, before stopping at the pizza stand. She had just enough cash for a slice of pizza and small drink. Which was good enough for her. After she received her food, she skipped on over to the nearest table she could find, near another small boy seeming to be writing or doodling something or another. She plopped down in her seat, right after tossing her bag in the seat next to her in a loud thunk. "Ah~" she sighed, taking her first bite of pizza. She reached up towards her ear then, feeling like she could use some quiet time, and pressed a little button on the mechanical thing on her ear being her hearing aid, making the room a bit more peaceful while she ate her food.

Kasem nearly jumped a mile as a bag was suddenly plopped down near him, and he stared at a girl who seemed to be about his age. She was enjoying some pizza and it made Kasem want some, and he licked his lips. He did the first couple questions and then put his pencil down, pulling out the extra money he had gotten from doing Aeron's chores (probably the easiest way to get money out their mom was to do Aeron's chores, because he and Thongchai had quickly learned Aeron would rarely, if ever, actually do them without their mother breathing down his back.) and left his stuff as he went to get a pizza. By the time he returned to the table, he looked over at the girl, still nervous about striking up a conversation with her. He tried to think of something not-lame he could say to begin a conversation with her, especially since he knew his mother would be thrilled had he found someone his own age to hang out with, but he couldn't of anything besides 'the pizza looked good.'

As Lauryn was slurping on some of her soda she bought, she noticed the same boy sitting across from her leave and come back with the same size slice of pizza as her. Copycat... Lauryn teased mentally, as she shook her head back down in her food. After just two minutes of finishing her meal then, Lauryn couldn't help feel like she was being watched. So after wiping her mouth with her napkin, she swung her head over towards the boy who in fact was, looking at her. So she just smiled at him, and gave a polite little wave without saying anything.

Kasem blushed as he got caught staring, returning her wave with a shy one. He returned his attention to his own piece of pizza, taking a big bite out of it, but his eyes kept wandering to the girl sitting near him. He felt pathetic-he couldn't even say hi. She's just a girl! His mind tried to ration, but he knew a part of him was scared-compared to his brother, he already a year late in finding his "soul mate." His mother had tried to tell him Thongchai and Beverly's case was completely abnormal in terms of the age to find a significant other, but Kasem couldn't help but be a bit jealous. After all, from the moment Kasem had joined the Kita family, Thongchai spent only a couple weeks with him before insisting he meet Beverly. Ultimately, Kasem now spent his days all but avoiding girls in fear he'd be "tied down" too soon. He wasn't ready to have his life not revolve around him.

Lauryn returned back to her food with a small giggle, just wondering why the boy was too shy to go up and just say hi. He looked like he could be around the same age as her, and Lauryn could always use some more friends. Or well, a friend. So after she finished up her slice of pizza and glancing over at the boy looking at her again, she made her decision of what to do next. She grabbed her bag off the table next to her and swung it back around her shoulders, grabbed her soda, and skipped on down to the table the little boy was at. "You know, it would be easier to just come over and say hi. It's rude to stare you know." She teased the little boy, while setting her drink down to turn up her hearing aid again so she could hear properly again.

Kasem blushed as he got called out, looking to his food, already half gone. "I-I'm sorry." He muttered, trying not to show too much of his accent. He played with his food for a little bit before motioning to the seat across from him. "Do you wanna sit?" He offered, looking up to her again. He winced mentally as there it was-his accent, in four simple words. He waited for a bit, not able to determine if she was going to tease him or not. After all, the nice ones always seemed to throw the best insults.

Lauryn simply smiled back to him and happily took the seat opposite from him, plopping her bag on the ground next to her. "English not your second language I'm guessing?" she asked curiously, her lisp more noticeable than before now. Not like she cared or anything. "What's your first language?" she asked again without waiting for his first answer, assuming the answer were to be obvious to begin with.

Kasem blinked a couple times, relieved that someone finally seemed to not care he had an accent. After all, his own future brother-in-law teased him (because by now he had to agree with his mom, Thongchai and Beverly were getting married at some point). Maybe she had friends from other countries. "Uh... Thai..." He muttered simply, seeming taken aback by the fact she didn't care. It also wasn't like every single person he met teased him, but it had become such a norm to him he almost got more confused when someone didn't tease him about it.

"That's interesting..." Lauryn said simple but quickly, curious herself as to why this boy hasn't asked about her talking funny yet...or what that thing in her ear was... Then again, Lauryn does do a good job with hiding her hearing aid when around other people. "I only speak English, but I've met some people in my uncle's house who speak other languages. One of them is teaching me a little bit of spanish actually." she continued to ramble, just happy to know she's finally met someone new outside of her dance class and uncle's house.

Kasem looked up at her, interested. "Really? That's cool." He replied, his accent still prevalent. "I also know a little bit of Chinese, and my mom often speaks at us in Korean, but I don't really know anything except Thai and English..." He explained, looking at her hearing aid curiously but not saying anything about it.

"Oo~ Really?" she said even curiouser. "I think my uncle's been learning some languages too, but he's only a little more better at it than me...'sides, he knows more languages than I do. Even if it is a little." she shrugged, moving her hand up to rest on her chin, and her other hand automatically moving up as well but to her hearing aid, fiddling with it nonchalantly.

Kasem couldn't help a smile playing on his lips as she spoke, so her family was similar to his! He notcied her playing with the thing in her ear and tilted his head curiously, "What is that?" He asked her with cute innocence.

"Hm?" she asked at first, before realizing what he meant. "Oh, this?" she motioned to her aid. "It's my hearing aid. I have trouble hearing sometimes, but this helps a lot. Um...its sort of hard to explain." she tried again, shrugging her shoulders in the end.

Kasem nodded, "I think I get it..." He muttered in return, still looking at it curiously. He couldn't help but wonder if there would ever be something to help HeuSeoh see colors. If there was a "seeing aid" of sorts. Maybe he'd make one some day. He couldn't help but let a small chuckle escape, knowing with his scores in science, that was a joke if he ever heard one. He bit his lip, hoping Lauryn didn't notice his random laugh and looked up to her, "So then what are your hobbies?" He asked her simply.
