Kevin pulled an ear bud of his ear as he entered into the office. Going up to the front desk, he cleared his throat, smiling softly to the woman behind the counter. "Um.. I'm here for the college tutoring program." He explained to the woman behind the desk. "Oh yes, of course. You sign in here and then fill out a name tag." She explained, pulling out a clip board with a list of names. "Thank you." Kevin said as he put the time down next to his name and wrote his name on a name tag before going to the classroom he noticed he had been assigned. It was for students going into fourth grade, and he was excited to get to work with them. Before getting to the classroom, he turned off his MP3 Player and put it away before going into the class room and going to the teacher there. "I'm one of the tutor for the college tutoring program..." He explained her simply, and she nodded. "Right you must be... Kevin?" She confirmed with him, a lot of the college students already there, and he gave her a nod. She looked to some papers, then pointed to a girl on the other side of the room. "You'll be helping out Lauryn Fosterling." Kevin nodded, going over to the girl and giving her a sweet smile, "Are you Lauryn?" He asked her.

Normally, during summer, Lauryn would be too involved in being outside having fun or going to her dance classes instead of being at school. But her uncle insisted on her trying out this college tutoring program. Where she could get help preparing herself for the fourth grade as well as meeting new people. Which is something that always interested Lauryn. After the kids were let into the classroom, Lauryn took her seat near the back, and politely waited for her tutor to arrive. After five or ten minutes of waiting, she found herself playing with the volume of her hearing aid out of bordem, but was quickly interrupted by an older boy approaching her. She quickly readjusted her aid and piped up a warm smile at him. "Hi! Yeah, I'm Lauryn. What's your name?"

Kevin smiled, instantly noticing her hearing aid and furrowing his eyebrows a little. He wasn't told he was getting someone with a disability... This would be an interesting summer. He also noticed she had something he did-a lisp. "I'm Kevin, great to meet you." He told her, offering a hand.

Lauryn smiled wider at his greeting. "It's really nice to meet you, too." she said just as warmly as before, shaking his hand when he offered it. "So...what are you gonna teach me today? I'm really good at stuff like English and spelling...Oh! And art too! That's my favorite. Next to P.E." she continued to smile, curious to know what was to be happening today.

Kevin smiled, pulling up a chair and sitting down at the head of her desk. "Hmm.. Why don't we think, then. How are you at math?" He asked her, mimicking her excitement in a way to make it fun. He leaned in closer to her as if he shouldn't even be asking it, glancing over at the teacher, "You like art, huh? Can I look at a picture?" He figuring that would be a safe bet when it came to her saying she liked art.

Lauryn shrugged at the mention of math. "Um...I'm okay in it, I guess.. Last year I had some trouble in the word problems. Especially the ones with money in them..." she explained to him only half whining. Her smile grew back though when he asked about the art. "Oh! I can draw you a picture right now if you want." she told him excitedly, already grabbing her crayons from her backpack as well as a blank piece of paper and began drawing without even waiting for his answer.

"Yeah, I'd love that!" He told her simply, looking forward to seeing her art. "After you do that, we'll work on the math word problems." He told her, his own lisp showing through at his eventual inability to avoid an "s."

Lauryn nodded in agreement, and continued her drawing. She stopped for a second though. She could of swore she heard Kevin speak with a lisp at the end, but couldn't be too sure of it exactly, so she just went back to her drawing for now. After about five minutes of silence, Lauryn finally finished her quick little drawing and held it up so Kevin could see. "Its of me and you! See?" she told him excitedly, pointing to each of themselves before sliding it over to Kevin to see better, but before that, she grabbed it back to sign her name in the corner. "There." she said, feeling more satisfaction about it. "Its for you." she grinned wider.

Kevin smiled as he watched her work on her drawing. She actually wasn't too bad for a nine year old kid... "Wow! You're really good!" He praised her, smiling more as he was given the picture. "Thank you! I'll make sure to treasure it." He said, letting his guard down around her and letting his lisp show up. He had a feeling it would only make her like him better anyway. After all, what kind of tutor was one you couldn't trust?

Lauryn shut her eyes and smiled widely at how proud she was of herself. "My uncle always told me how creative I am. Oh! I also dance, too!" she added in with excitement filling her voice. After Kevin said the last part of his sentence though, Lauryn was sure she heard him have a lisp. She couldn't have been hearing things....but then again, he could also be making fun of her. They're not allowed to make fun of us though. Their suppose to be older and smarter...right? Lauryn couldn't help but think to herself. She couldn't help it though, and she blurted out her question she's been waiting to ask. "Do you have a lisp, too?"

Kevin smiled, "Wow, you're really talented!" He praised her. As she asked the question, he bit his lip, "Mmhmm. It's not as obvious as when I was younger, but I do." He told her. He gave her a cheeky smile, "But I think it's a part of us, not something I'd want to change." He looked out towards the other kids. "But you're at that age... you must get teased a lot, right?" He asked her curiously. He wasn't sure how the kids in Riverside were, but he knew the kids in San Francisco could be quite vicious.

"Thanks!" Lauryn said again with a wide smile, which soon faded away at the mention of they both having a lisp. "Mm...they mostly mimick how I say things...It gets really annoying. I mostly keep to myself though, and not talk too much when I go to dance classes." she explained herself, her tone taking in to be much softer than it was earlier, as if she were embarrassed or something.

"It can be hard, but don't worry. What's important is finding good friends who will love you for who you are." He let out a small chuckle, "Or at least you don't care anymore if they tease you." He joked. As the teacher neared their desk, he cleared his throat as he grabbed her drawing and placed it in his bag carefully, "So you have trouble with math? Alright, little lady, bring out your math work." He said, giving Lauryn a mischievous, playful look.

Lauryn nodded, giggling a little towards the end of his sentence. "I don't think I'll care what they think. It might take a while though..." she admitted, looking up when he did to notice the teacher standing over them. "Oh! Yeah, here..." she responded quickly, digging in her backpack to pull out a couple of blank math sheets. "My uncle printed these off his computer so I could practice...but I didn't start yet...." she explained carefully, pushing the papers closer to the older boy. "It's hard..." she pouted.

Kevin smiled, looking over the math sheet. "Well, you seem to be a few grades higher anyway. What is this? Sixth grade math?" He asked her, looking over the questions and trying to remember when he was that age. Then again, he was taking high school classes by the time he was in seventh grade.
