Personality:
Summary: Silas is somewhat hard to explain. After he left home, he became isolated for a while and had no intentions of actually going through with reconnecting with his cousins, even though that was the reason he came to Riverside in the first place. Silas has since pushed himself out into the world a little more, and is finally getting in touch with the person he used to be. Only, this time that person is so much better.
Notable Qualities: Silas is dedicated and hardworking. He may not be doing much with his life right now, but when he finds out what he really wants to do, he won’t stop until he accomplishes his dreams. Living with his father in the years after his mother died taught Silas that you shouldn’t base your dreams on other people’s expectations, nor should you give up the things you love because of what other people want. When Silas sets his mind on something, he gives it one-hundred-and-ten percent of his effort. Right now, he isn’t moving forward in life, and that is starting to become tiresome.
Silas is talented. This is a word that is often thrown around, to the point where it really means nothing in most cases, but Silas is talented. He was born with the raw talent and sheer will to do anything and everything he sets his mind to. Ever since he was small, his knowledge has continued to grow. He knows how to play the piano, he has a great voice, he can act, and he has even recently taken up creative writing.
Silas is romantic. Sometimes, it’s not about the over-the-top gestures, but rather those little moments that you remember the most. He is not just romantic on the material front, but on the emotional front as well. It’s like Silas was born with this guide engraved into his brain, one that makes him that much more appealing to the opposite sex. Silas says things that he means, they come from his heart, and they come often. He’s never met a girl that’s complained about his loving and affectionate nature.
Interests: Acting/Singing: These creative outlets were something he picked up from his mother. Silas’ mother loved theater, and even though she could no longer act in the productions herself, she always took Silas to see them. Before he knew it, Silas was up onstage, acting his little heart out. His father never cared much for the plays when his business got off the ground, and this was something Silas never cared about, that was until his mother died. When Silas tried to continue with his acting career, his father continuously shot him down. This went on for years, but Silas did it anyway. He still acted, even though his father never went to another show. When his father got him a spot on a big Broadway tour after his senior year in high school, though suspicious, Silas jumped at the chance. At the end of the summer when his father gave him an ultimatum-acting or the money-Silas cut all ties with his father and packed up his things and moved to Riverside. He had intended on pursuing his acting career, but upon settling down and getting an apartment, Silas found himself putting his dreams on hold. The time he has spent assessing his life has caused him to reconsider his past thoughts about his future, now he’s not so sure of himself.
Piano: Silas became enraptured with this instrument when he was only two years old. His mother used to sit with him in her lap, her fingers gliding gracefully along the keys, producing some of the most beautiful music Silas would ever hear. He soon took up the piano himself, and by the time he turned five, he could play full length songs all on his own. Some of his favorite memories involve the baby grand piano he and his mother played on. Silas stopped playing all together when his mother died, save for the composition he played at her funeral. At nine years old, he wrote the piece just for her. Silas misses playing, but he still cannot bring himself to let those memories resurface just yet.
Creative Writing: Writing is something Silas has recently taken up, and he has found that he actually really enjoys it. One night, he just had the strong urge to put his thoughts down on paper, so he grabbed his laptop, opened a word document and began to write-virtual paper would have to do. What he thought would just be a few paragraphs at the most, quickly became a few pages and then became twenty. He isn’t really sure what is going to become of this newly found knack for writing, but he surely isn’t complaining. Writing has helped him begin to deal with those emotions he kept hidden for so long, and nothing feels better than to have less weighing on his heart and mind.
Flaws: Silas is filthy rich. While most wouldn’t consider this little detail to be a flaw, Silas sure thinks it is one. He has never been about the nice things, even when he still lived with his father. He didn’t need the fancy house and car. You wouldn’t be able to tell that he has, or came from money. He isn’t spoiled or snobby, and doesn’t act like he is above everyone else. When Silas left home, he told himself that he wouldn’t touch the money, and hasn’t. This choice was mostly because he wanted to spite his father. He wanted him to be something he never wanted to be, and in turn, Silas decided that he would never turn out like his father. If that meant no money, then so be it.
Silas is generally introverted. While he has no problem with talking to those whom he makes a connection with, Silas has issues striking up and keeping a conversation going with strangers. This prevents him from making new friends, and in a new town, this is not a very good flaw to have. Silas became this way when his father gave him an ultimatum, and he ended up leaving down and shutting out his father all together. If he was going to get nothing but criticism from him, he didn’t see the point of just staying there and taking it.
Silas doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life. He lacks direction and even the drive to do anything. This is what landed him in the movie store in the first place. He quit college, picked up his life and moved it somewhere completely knew. Upon this move, he was forced to evaluate what was really important to him and what he wanted to accomplish. Now, he really doesn’t know what he wants to do.
Silas can become very jealous and protective. This flaw stems from the death of his mother, and his father disapproval of his life, along with his lack of contact with the rest of his family. He feels like everyone could leave him as soon as something goes wrong, and this has caused him to become easy to get jealous. This is yet other another one of his walls used to protect himself.
Past
Birth Place/Hometown: Palm Springs, California.
Family Life: Silas had a very close relationship with his mother, growing up. She was a nurturing mother who enjoyed being a part of Silas's life, no matter what he chose to do. They spent lots of time together and she encouraged him to be whatever he wanted to be. His life changed though, when his mother became terminally ill and died months later. His father had always been a man of emotion, and loved his son unconditionally, but he changed after his wife's death. The once fun loving man became a tyrant, controlling Silas's life, but at the same time, neglecting the young boys emotional needs. He withdrew from his life when his son needed him the most. After years of putting up with his father's controlling nature, he left home and moved to Riverside, the town where his cousins live.
Good Memory: A good memory Silas has from his past is one involving both his mom and dad. It was his first day of kindergarten, and he had been so scared to leave his parents and go to the scary private school they had chosen for him. This was one of his favorite days because after school, they took him around and showed him all of the things he could do when he was older. After that day, he never fought them on school again.
Relationship History: Many might think this was wrong of him, but in every relationship he had, Silas was never himself. For every girl there was, there was a new Silas, a Silas that he crafted to be perfect for them. The relationship would go on for a while, until he could no longer keep up the act, and he would break it off. Somehow, he knew that he would never be able to connect to them on that deep emotional level that he craved, so he never tried.
