Aya had secluded herself in the confines of the library. She had a paper due and she found it extremely difficult to focus on anything other than Monte who had annoyed her and Danian who she was trying to find so she could speak to him about their relationship. Aya had moved to the library, bent on being productive for the day instead of acting like a stupid lovelorn girl. That was never something she thought she would ever do.
She blinked from staring blankly at her book when she saw that her phone was blinking and vibrating. When she saw it was from Garret, she smiled until she read his message. Oh shit... She had planned on telling him about Monte at the right time especially when she didn't know how to tell Dan and she needed her friend's advice. Aya was also tempted to tell Garret about how Monte felt about him but didn't think that that would make the two friends in any sense of the word.
But now that he knew, and especially since she could sense his disapproval through her lcd, she was terrified. Aya nibbled on her bottom lip, worrying it until she drew blood as she thought of what to text him.
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Doll told you? She hit the send button with trembling fingertips before she practically collapsed on the table, praying to any deity that would hear her that Garret wasn't mad. She was guilty enough as it is; he definitely did not need to worsen it.

Garret was parked outside the University administration building when he received Aya's return text. He grabbed the folder he'd put together with his high school transcripts and other important documentation for enrolling at the university and only decided to respond to her once he was inside and standing in the lengthy line at the student services counter.
You can't see me right now, but I have my index finger resting on the tip of my nose. If you can't visualize it, it means 'on the nose.' What is going on in that pretty little head of yours?
He flipped the phone closed after sending the message and moved forward with the slowly diminishing line, hoping that he'd be finished with his business at the University if Aya wanted to meet up.

Aya practically jumped a meter high when her phone vibrated once more. She went back to worrying her lip when she saw it was Garret and she hesitantly unlocked her phone, read his message and texted back a tentative reply.
You told me to do what made me happy. This is what makes me happy Garret. I don't care what others think... I hope you're not upset at me though. You matter. Everyone else can go screw themselves. She pushed her phone away once the message was sent; burying her face into her arms with a groan of despair as she shut her eyes, hoping against hope that once she opened them, the whole Garret disaster would go away.
Aya moved her head slowly, opening her eyes and finding that to her dismay, she was still in trouble with Garret. She took her phone, unlocked it and typed a quick message to her friend. Do you wanna meet up? Where are you anyway?

Just as Garret finished up at the counter he received Aya's message and started back to his truck.
I'm not upset, a little disappointed I guess, I mean I thought you were with Dan. I thought Dan made you happy and everything there was great. I'm leaving RU now, just finished registration and all that crap I have to do to enroll for classes and get a dorm assignment. Where are you? I'll come pick you up.
He wasn't done with her and the whole Monte thing, but he would rather hash it all out in person than through text messages, mostly due to character limits.

Her phone buzzed once more and she winced at his reply. So Garret really was disappointed in her. Well fuck. What more can I do wrong? First Monte's mad. And now Garret's disappointed. What next? Kai will bitch me out too? She shook her head and frowned as she texted him a quick reply.
Ugh. I don't know Garret. I really wanted to talk to you about it at the right time but Doll blew my plans. I thought you'd help me out here and not be a disapproving father. I'm at RU Library, near the Librarian's desk. She made a soft mewling sound in nervousness as she clicked the send button. This was not a very productive day it seemed.

Wow, I didn't look at where this thread was taking place, doesn't make much sense that he's enrolling...
Garret got her text and did a quick 180 to go in the opposite direction. The library was only a short walk from his current location and driving his truck over there would be senseless, he had a perfectly good parking space where he was if he tried to park closer to the library he'd wind up farther away than he started.
On my way.
He reached the library and walked straight up to where she was sitting, he pulled out the chair next to her and sat down. "Hey." He whispered. "Disapproving father?" He raised an eyebrow. "I guess I'm more confused than disappointed, I was under the impression that things with Dan were good, what happened between you to make you break up and then to go to Mondego?"

She took in deep breaths to try and calm herself down. Aya hadn't expected a confrontation so soon and she was so nervous, she wanted to scream, or worse throw up.
She heard him sit beside her and so she turned her head ever so slightly so she could rest her cheek on her arm and face him. Aya couldn't help but smile at his first words as she shook her head. "Dan and I are--were great... But I just couldn't get rid of this feeling that deep down my heart wasn't in it." Aya turned away, ashamed.

Garret stared at her unblinking and then he blinked and shook his head, his eyebrows raised. "Is it 'are' or 'were'? Because I'm getting the impression that you just had a freudian slip and you really meant to say 'were,' but the truth is it's 'are.'" He paused for a moment and took it in, already knowing what was what without her confirming. "You haven't broken it off with Dan, but you've already hooked up with Monte." He ran his hand across the top of his head and stared in disbelief.

Leave it to Garret to understand her dilemma without her having to explain. She nodded her head, still refusing to look him in the eye; to ashamed and scared to see the disappointment that she knew would be there. "Garret... I don't know what to do... I love Monte with all my heart and more and I know this way, no one else will be hurt... But Dan..." She groaned as she buried her face in her hands, biting hard on the inside of her cheek as she struggled not to cry-- or worse, scream.

"But Dan is perfect for you? He's loved by your family and friends, he treats you with respect, he's responsible, and charming and endearing, basically your Taylor Swift and your life is that one song she sings." He held up a finger, giving her a stern look. "You tell anyone I listen to Taylor Swift I'll kill you." He ran a hand down the back of her head and gave her neck a light squeeze. "I guess I might actually have a chance in hell in this world after all." He grinned. "I always thought that whole 'girls like bad boys' thing was just a thing people said in movies, but if you're willing to break off this thing with this great guy to be with Monte, then I might actually stand a chance with Isabelle." He exhaled rather loudly and put his arm around her shoulders, resting his forehead on the table. "Can I ask you a question?" He asked, turning his head to face her. "I don't mean this as an insult on your character or anything, but you haven't slept with Monte yet right?"

His words were enough to make her turn to face him, her eyebrows almost disappearing into her bangs as she grinned at him; laughing would have been better but she hadn't forgotten that they were in the library. "Taylor Swift huh?" She smiled at the mention of her cousin. "So you really do like her huh? I told you I was a good matchmaker; I'm still waiting for you to tell me I was right about that you know." Aya waggled her eyebrows playfully, only frowning when she heard his question. Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment; she wasn't too comfortable with talking about her sex life with anyone, even if she considered Garret as one of her closest friends. "No; not since we got back together... I mean, we did sleep together before... When we were together in MABTown; before I moved and all this happened." She waved her hands around to gesture what 'this' supposedly was. She bit her bottom lip in thought, before blowing out her bangs. "I already told him I wanted to wait... I just don't think it's right to do it when technically I still am Dan's girlfriend." At the mention of Dan, Aya groaned and buried her face in her hands. "Oh god, what am I gonna do?"

Garret ran the hand he'd previously used to pet her down the back of his head and down his neck, pinching himself slightly when she turned to him. "I do like her." He lifted his head off the table and met her eyes for a second before turning them away again. "I might have already fucked it up." He tilted his head ever so slightly and returned it back to normal after cracking his neck. "But I like her and she knows I like you and that the order of this 'likeness' was you first, so I suppose I made her feel like second rate and to top it all off I read her wrong and thought I was reading sexual vibes from her and..." He took a deep breath and exhaled. "I insulted her, then pleaded like a bitch to get back on her good side and I think it worked, but I've lost all my self respect, I'm fucked up." He laughed.
The worried smile on his face disappeared quickly after his unamused laugh and he stared at her. "I'm trying really hard right now not to tell that maybe it's not too late, that you haven't screwed everything up with Dan yet and you can save yourself a lot of heartache by forgetting about Mondego and going back to Dan. But..." He rolled his eyes. "But as your friend I know you love the bastard and no matter what anyone tries to tell you, you're going to end it with Dan, because as much as I hate to admit it, we all know there is something missing in that relationship, and you're going back to Monte." He sneered, lifted her cell phone off the table and put it in her hand. "Call Dan, meet him at Palmer's, maybe by him a shake and let him know. Soon. Tonight. The longer you wait, the harder it'll be and he doesn't deserve it." He patted the phone once and put his arm around her shoulders, hugging her.

Aya blinked and watched him as he confessed to what he had been up to lately. She couldn't help but crack a grin at him; Garret really was desperate to stay in Izzy's good graces. She lightly touched his cheek and smiled. "Well I think the total lack of self respect thing is great; it goes to show that she really matters to you." She joined him in her laughter, making sure it wasn't too loud since she too never wanted to be on the librarian's bad side.
A soft, tremulous, almost watery smile curved Aya's mouth at his confession. A gasp of laughter escaped her when she saw him roll his eyes-- he would. They were right, of course. The people who said that people only asked for advice when they knew what to do but didn't want to do it. They were spot on and the echoing of her thoughts by Garret was proof enough that she had made a decision. She rolled her eyes at his sneer and pinched his cheek; not hard enough to hurt him but to wake him up.
Aya ignored her phone, even when Garret lifted it up for her. She'd call Dan of course, but not while Garret was there. She knew that even if it was just a call to talk to him, she was going to get emotional and most likely cry. Garret was one of her closest friends but she even felt awkward crying in front of her family. She did however, allow him to hug her; Aya curled into his embrace and wrapped her arms around his neck, burrowing into his warmth. "Thanks Garret." She managed to mumble as she closed her eyes tight and tried not to cry. She was relieved; extremely relieved but she knew she had to hurt someone to be happy and she hated it. She hated it with all her heart.

Garret released her and slid his chair back to go. "I'm not sure I agree with you on the lack of self respect, makes me feel cheap in a way." He kissed her forehead. "I'm gonna head out. Don't wait too long to let Dan know alright. I know it's going to be hard, but you owe him that." He bit his bottom lip and put his hand on her shoulder, wondering if he should say anything else. "I guess you could call me if you need me afterwards, but then again you've got Monte, you won't need me much." He winked and started for the door.

Aya laughed, a bit louder than before which earned her the disapproving glare of the head librarian. She mouthed a sheepish apology before looking up to meet Garret's gaze. "You may think it cheapens you but I think it's freakin adorable." She waggled her eyebrows playfully and smiled. "Yeah, I'll call you after me and Dan talk. A friend's different from a boyfriend and you know I'd still need you." She waved as he backed away from her, "Thanks Garret. For everything. Thank you." And she meant it.
