Every word that passed Spencer's lips made Seph more resolute in his decision that no matter if they never saw each other again, he would take care of her. The way she spoke about it, it seemed like the spitfire girl who had picked a fight with him was gone; all that remained was complacence and so much pain. "Spencer, you didn't give up. If you had given up, you'd still be there. But you're not. You managed to get away from such an evil place and that takes guts. That takes a lot of courage and you were able to get away." He offered her a tiny smile, an honest smile. "That's all that matters, really."
He shrugged his broad shoulders, he was never one to talk about his feelings or offer advice for that matter. He was a dude after all, a gentleman... But still just an ignorant male. Seph glanced at her, "We don't have to talk about this if you don't want to. I feel like I'm intruding on your personal life as it is. Not to mention I'm not very good at advice or encouragement." Seph rubbed the back of his head in a sheepish fashion before taking a sip of his drink.

Spencer gave him a small smile in return of his statement. She knew that she didn't give up, but all those years just letting her father hit her and break her bones was enough to feel like she had. Who knew where she'd be if she hadn't left, and more importantly, who knew where she'd be if she never met Hunter. Probably stuck with that horrible crowd, bitter and lonely, even more so than she was now. Now, she could have a life if she wanted to, she had a bright future. "Thank you, Seph." She said to him, and she really meant it. His words were reassurance that she was, in fact, stronger than she let herself believe. "I don't mind all that much, really. It's just the past now. He cant hurt me anymore." She shrugged. Even though those words were true, they didn't stop the nightmares that ruined almost any amount of sleep she got, creeping out from her subconscious and making her feel like a scared child all over again. "I think you did a pretty good job though, for what it's worth. What you said was pretty encouraging." Spencer gave him a smile, bringing her drink up to her lips as well. "So, you play the cello, you're learning bass, and you go to Julliard. What do you do besides that?"

All Joseph could think about was how impressed he was by Spencer's gumption. She had risen above her terrible circumstances and tried her hardest to stand up and move on. A lot of people bigger than her would not have even tried. He shook his head and smiled in amazement at the slip of a girl he had had the good fortune of meeting. Clearly, Spencer had leaped and bounded her way into Joseph's shortlist of favorite people.
He couldn't help it this time; Spencer's candid way of not only complimenting, but thanking him made him blush. Like a tomato. Seph was tempted to scowl but did nothing of the sort, knowing that if anyone ever heard of the cocky, arrogant, prick, John Joseph Burkeheart blushing... He'd never live it down. "Me? I don't do much to be honest. I'm a boring hermit type who doesn't like to go out and join civilization. My little sister usually has to drag me out to get me some sunshine." He smiled a bit to show he was teasing. "What about you spitfire? How'd you get into playing the drums?"

Spencer smiled into her drink when his face once again was painted with that rosy hue. If she were up to it, she would have told him his face matched her hair, but she didn't really want to. She liked Seph, and didn't want to cause him unnecessary embarrassment, even if the blush was indeed very adorable. She raised a brow in question, Seph, a hermit? She questioned the validity of that statement. From what she had seen, he seemed to be sociable, but maybe that was just around her. She rather liked that idea.
"Me? You sure you want to hear that story?" She asked, joking a little. Her whole existence was pretty sad, it was a miracle Spencer wasn't completely consumed by it. "Well, when I ran away, I was fifteen. I didn't really have anywhere to go, so I kind of skipped from town to town. I ended up in Seattle, and that's where I met Hunter. He's like my pseudo-older brother, you know? I was caught up in a pretty bad crowd, and he got me out of it. After that, we ended up here, where his adoptive brother and sister live, and I met Noah." She was telling him the abridged version of that story, because her time with those people was a long and drawn out series of events that she wasn't proud of. But, when you have nowhere else to go, you do what you have to do in order to survive. "Noah is one of the coolest people you'll ever meet, seriously. He's the one who got me into drums. He saw how much animosity I had held up inside, and told me that if I needed to hit something, I should try the drums. The rest was history, I fell in love with percussion. Now, We're in a band, got a record deal, and should be going on tour in the next few months."

Joseph mimicked the curious quirk of her brow as he stared back at her, smiling. "What's that look for huh?" Her story really was as fascinating as she was; Spencer had lived an extremely difficult life but had managed to find her way out of the darkness that seemed to constantly want her back in its grasp. For some inexplicable reason, he was extremely thankful for Hunter and Noah, even if he had never met them before. They had picked up this broken girl and took measures to make her whole again. Her life was a grungy version of a Cinderella tale and though she had gone through a lot, Spencer had managed to make things work for her. Seph preferred people who struggled with life than just to be handed riches and splendor on a silver platter. People like that, well a majority of them anyway, never appreciated how blessed they were and usually just threw away everything they had. He found that an extreme waste.
"Wow; seems like everything's working out for you huh?" He paused and took a sip of his drink, finishing it and licking his lips absently. "You're going on tour already? Wow, that's pretty amazing. Don't forget me when you're famous and stuff." He teased playfully, chuckling softly to show that he wasn't serious.

Spencer shrugged. "You just don't seem like the shy type. I mean, you talked to me anyway." She said simply. It was hard for her to think of herself as famous, the only thing she'd ever thought would make her famous was if her father ended up killing her one night, then he'd be exposed as the beast he was. Like that poor little girl in Florida, whose mother was all over the news for months. But, she was trying to have a more positive outlook on life these days. Her past should have to haunt her anymore, it was over. Done with. It should stay where it was, in her past. Things were never that easy though. Spencer rolled her eyes playfully. "Me, famous?" She scoffed, "I doubt I'll be very big, I'm just the drummer. Everyone will be swooning over my boys. I bet Noah's got fan girls after him already." She grinned though, she was really excited for the tour. To see the world, even if it was just different venues every night. "I can't believe it though, It seems like yesterday we were just starting out, and now we have this huge fanbase. It's mind-blowing, really." Spencer looked at Seph before a small smile crossed her face and she looked down. "What do you want to do with your life, Seph? You play the cello, do you want to make a career out of it?"

Seph smiled at her proceeding reply and shook his head. "Well who said I was shy? I said I was a hermit; it doesn't mean I'm afraid to meet and talk to people... I just don't like most of the people I meet... most of the time." He blinked at his reply, feeling like he had accidentally dug a deeper hole for himself. He shook his head again at her as if that action alone was enough to express whatever he was feeling; it didn't work and Seph had to open his mouth to speak. "You've gone through so much and you were able to rise above it; what makes you think you can't be a great success? I haven't even heard you play and I know you're amazing." Maybe he was biased but that's what he felt around her; everything she did was amazing.
He paused at her question and mimicked her stance, putting his elbow on the bar counter and resting his cheek on the palm of his hand so he could face her properly. "Hmm. To be honest I haven't really thought of it. I'm taking up music because I can't get enough of it and because it's fascinating but I don't know if I can make a career out of it... Maybe? I don't really know what to do with my life; my dad's company is in good order since my older brother's the CEO but... I don't know what I want to do. Something useful I guess." He paused once more. "Is play the cello useful, you think?"

Spencer just nodded. When she was younger, she was just like he was. Though her reasoning behind the isolation went beyond simply not liking the people she met. It went deeper. The truth was, she wanted so badly to be them. To have that seemingly uncomplicated life. To be able to wear short sleeves and to be able to just go to the pool in the summer. She longed so much for that life that she had no choice but to hide herself from all of the things she was missing out on. "Don't you think that's a little presumptive?" She asked, smirking away the compliment. "I could be insanely horrible or a pathological liar for all you know." Spencer laughed, shaking her head from side to side. She wasn't used to receiving what seemed to be such genuine compliments, and she didn't really know what to think about them. She was almost scared to think anything by it. Maybe he was just nice...
Spencer shrugged. "I mean, you could a lot of things if you have talent and a little passion." She said. He could really do anything he wanted to if he tried hard enough, but she had a feeling Seph wouldn't have to put forth much effort in order to succeed. He just seemed naturally talented, and she could tell that he had such a great mind and way of thinking. She already wanted to get into his head and see how things worked in there. He was fascinating. "You could be in an orchestra if you wanted, or compose music. Even do a solo act if you can sing. The possibilities are endless."

He shook his head at her, chuckling softly. "Forgive me for my presumptions then... But you're just..." Joseph cut off the phrase, deciding against it before saying, "You just can't be some psycho or insanely horrible. Doesn't seem like you're the type. Then again that's just me and all my presumptions."
Joseph looked at her, letting his gaze linger a bit longer as it dropped from her beautiful eyes to her lips. "Well, I can tell you straight away that me and music composition are never going to be friends. Ever. Ever." He chuckled softly. He already did have a few offers to join some orchestras; ones that he would seriously consider once he had finished his studies. And joining a band with his bass was also a possibility but he could still feel the indecision weigh down on him. A solo career just seemed to lonely for him and though he'd never admit this to Jackie, he'd miss his family a lot.
