Note: This is just a short story on how Aya coped with the 'loss' of Dan; it happens roughly around a week after she went to see him at his house.
"How long has she be in that room now?" Seraph had dropped by her family home to pick up her guitar and bring it back to the apartment she now shared with her fiance, Edward, and his little girl, Daylin. She had heard of Aya breaking up with Danian Arthur, a sweet guy who in her opinion was a better choice for her little sister than Monte Mondego, whose track record was quite a contradiction to his promises of being loyal to her little sister. But their mother had begged both her and Kai to stay away. "If Aya knows this is what she wants, then this is what she wants. If she thinks it's a mistake later on, then she can take measures to correct it. This is her life and she knows we're here for her but we can't control it; she's a big girl now." It wasn't a very typical method of mothering but it had worked for her and Kai and hopefully Aya would turn out alright.
"3 days straight; but if you were to count the times when she went out for school then 5 or 6 days or so." Cameron managed to quip with a mouthful of creamy chocolate ice cream that Georgiana had made for Aya. The ice cream had been left uneaten until the redhead male had managed to sink his teeth into the chocolate-y confection. Seraph sighed as she nursed the cup of coffee that Georgiana had made for her. To say that the entire household was concerned was a bit of an understatement. Georgiana had doubled her efforts to make especially decadent treats for Aya but they had all been left uneaten. From what Seraph had heard, Aya only ate when she needed nourishment but never anymore than what she needed. She had also cut off all contact from the outside world; going to such extreme lengths as ignoring the frantic calls of Garret Walker, her acclaimed best friend, and Monte Mondego. Whenever they tried to talk to her during the brief times that she had decided to go down stairs, her replies were few and far in between.
"What does she do in that room anyway?" Seraph asked in between sips of the still-warm Latte. Georgiana shrugged and looked at Cameron who Aya didn't mind talking to normally; he had even on a few occasions, been allowed to enter her domain. Cameron shrugged. "Usually she's developing pictures from her old SLR. You know with legit film and everything? Aside from that, she studies, watches repeats of her favorite movies and listens to sad music." It fascinated Seraph how calm and unaffected Cameron could act when his favorite family member had become the resident hermit.
Cameron caught the look in Seraph's amber eyes and smiled, pointing his spoon at her. "You're thinking that I'm a heartless sod for not worrying about her right?" Seraph was about to open her mouth in response but Cameron shook his head. "I'm worried about her Ser you know that; but I also know that Aya is one of the strongest and bravest people I know and that she will be okay. This is just her way of dealing with things. Dealing with her guilt and shame and trying to sort it all out on her own. You should have a little faith in your sister; she ain't so little anymore." Seraph fell silent as an embarrassed flush found its way to her cheeks. For such an irresponsible guy, Cameron was secretly one of the smartest people she knew; he just didn't like people knowing. He said it left him with a disadvantage; not to mention he had the penchant for surprising people.
The front door opened and closed and Ser turned from the breakfast bar to see her mother coming in. Kris gave her eldest daughter a little wave and smiled at the 'family session' taking place in the kitchen. Though Yume had said nothing thus far, she had been quietly reading beside Seraph, taking it all in. Ser returned the smile and quirked a brow, silently asking her mother where she had been. She waved her hand around in a vague answer. "I was at Juliet's, planning Yume and Jack's wedding you know." She waggled her eyebrows playfully as Yume 'eeped' like a mouse and covered her flushed face with her book. Cameron and Georgiana laughed and Seraph shook her head in amusement. "Don't think I've forgotten about you and Sean, Georgie." Georgie groaned in despair which made Cameron crack up even more.
The laughter had died down and Ser met her mother's gaze, her eyes still full of questions. Kris looked at Ser and smiled that knowing smile. "She'll be fine." And for some reason, with no why or how, Ser believed her. She knew that Aya would be okay and that was enough for her. Ser nodded and smiled a watery smile at her mother before standing. She put her mug in the sink and walked over to her mother, giving her a huge hug which Kris gladly reciprocated. "Thanks Ma." Kris laughed softly and stroked her eldest's fiery red hair. "For you? Anything." Ser pulled away and picked up her guitar case from the corner of the kitchen. "Well I have to go drop this off before I go pick up Daylin; I'll see you guys around." Cameron winked at her which made her laugh and she gave a tiny wave to Yu and Georgie who mouthed 'I'll call you when she feels better' at her which she responded to with a nod.
