Brody took her hand and squeezed it. "Very cute. I honestly can't wait Liesl. They're gonna be adorable, whether it's a boy or a girl. I still don't really want to know, but I might cave before. Imagine if we have a boy, and all this time we've been saying she? It'll probably get a complex or something."
He laughed somewhat nervously and ruffled his hair with his free hand. "By the way, your bump is beautiful.."

Liesl laughed. "Our baby isn't going to have a complex. He or she will be fine, it's not like babies have memory of their time in the womb or even the first couple years of their lives. I mean really, do you remember being two?" She squeezed his hand. "I'm glad you think my bump is beautiful, let's see what you think in a few months when I'm all swollen like a pumpkin." She laughed. "I actually like it for the time being, it's like a subtle reminder and sign that I really am going to have a baby."

Brody laughed, and squeezed her hand again. "True. Although I do remember from about five, so I better get their gender down before then."
He took another chance gauging her mood, and rested his free hand on her tiny bump. "So fingernails huh? Anything else? I know that's asking a lot for three months. I think I read somewhere that they have gill slits for a bit. How weird is that?"

Liesl giggled. "I'm sure you'll have his or her gender down once he or she comes out of me." She looked away from him, not sure she could look him in the eye to ask her next question. "Do you want to be in the delivery room with me?" Her mom would be there for sure. "I'm not sure what else they have, but gill slits? Really?"

Brody nodded emphatically. "They're not real gills, obviously otherwise I think I'd be less excited if my kid was gonna be a fish. But yeah they practice breathing or whatever. They grow over pretty early I think."
He looked over at the wall, wondering which response she'd rather have. He couldn't imagine not being there, and it wasn't like he had never seen her naked. "Sure I'll be there. I'd love to. Is it ok if I am? I promise to stay up at your head, you can trust me on that one."

"Well, I'm glad they grow over pretty early, because that would just freak me out." She laughed. "Ah you don't want to watch your baby come into the world?" She grinned. "It's alright, I think I'd prefer you to be by my head regardless of how many times you've seen me naked." She sighed. "I mean Kylie probably wouldn't want you looking at my vagina, even if your kid was coming out of it." She laughed and wished for a second she could hold him close and kiss him, without screwing up her own emotions.

Brody nodded, trying to fight a grin as an image from the warehouse floated into his mind's eye. Dammit. Why does this have to be so hard? Why do I have to pick just one? Maybe if I decided I was a Mormon... . "No I can't say she'd be too pleased. Even if it is kind of gory and disgusting."
Smiling wistfully, he looked over at Liesl. "I know we have a lot of time before we have to figure everything out but... What are we gonna do when the baby comes? Where is it going to live?"

Liesl bit on the corner of her bottom lip. "I really haven't thought too much about it." She looked at the paper material of her gown. "It'd be ideal if she lived with both of us, but I can't imagine spending weekends or week days away from her, you know and I wouldn't want to force you to only have weekend visitation or whatever, because she's your kid too." She met his eyes. "You said I could crash at your house...what if..." She shook her head and looked away, tears forming again. Of course not, Kylie wouldn't like that either and it would be too hard to keep your hands to yourself.

Brody nodded as she talked, glad that she wanted him around as much as possible. He took a deep breath, and finally voiced what he'd been thinking pretty much since Liesl had told him she was having his child. "I've been thinking..You should live with me. Buying two sets of everything is expensive, and something neither of us can afford. And if you live with me, we have a live in babysitter in my brother Danian. He doesn't go to college, he doesn't work...he doesn't do anything. We can separate my bedroom into two, I live in the basement so there's heaps of room.." He trailed off, realising that as he'd talked he'd begun speaking at a rapid pace. "Just...think about it ok?"

She couldn't believe the words he was saying. "Brody..." She tilted her head and shook her head. "I don't know how that would work." She couldn't stop herself from feeling awful. "What about Kylie?" The pit in her chest kept growing deeper and wider, she was starting to feel the edges start to consume her. "I'd love to live with you, I'd love for our child to live under the same roof as both her mother and father, but..." Her frown deepened and she looked away completely. Some how she was writing Brody off already as taken by Kylie and it hurt too bad to think that she'd have to see the girl, see them together, hear her name one hundred times more than she would ordinarily hear it, and then being the object of this guys life that was pushed into a corner of his basement bedroom. He'd want to have Kylie over in his own house right? She'd have to make herself scarce and she'd wind up spending a good portion of her time crying in an upstairs bathroom or something. But she also couldn't imagine it any other way, she wouldn't be happy living under her mother's roof, looking for a sitter if she went to school or found a job, and then those nights where the baby would be with Brody, she didn't even want to imagine it.

Brody tried to keep the crestfallen expression off his face as he shrugged. "Well, I mean we have a while to figure things out. Just don't say no ok? Really think about it. I mean, we do have a spare room if you want it. I just thought..the basement is bigger than our lounge room and dining room put together...and we could do night shift together."
Running his hand through his hair he grinned halfheartedly. "Don't worry about Kylie. She'll understand. I'm sure she will, I'll explain it to her in a way she understands..." Geez I hope she will. What if she has a spak about it? Ugh. There's no point playing what if. It's a stupid game with no end.

Liesl frowned. "I'm not saying no." She said quietly, but she was having a hard time not worrying about Kylie. The girl was going to be a nightmare until Brody realized things just weren't going to work with her, or that the two of them living together would never fly and he retracted his beautiful offer. The doctor came in and all conversation about their future living arrangements diminished. He did what he needed, let them listen to the heart beat, showed them the baby on the screen and let Liesl know what she needed to do next. Liesl changed back into her clothes in silence and then only turned to Brody when they both had a copy of their baby's sonogram picture. "I've been thinking about what we'd been talking about before the doctor came in. If Kylie's still in the picture, I'll have to stay with my mom or get my own apartment or something, but I won't be able to live where Kylie's going to be constantly visiting, I'd be a prisoner in my own home. So in my own twisted little dreams, I hope you've ditched her."

Brody fought to keep his expression neutral, and pressed his lips together tightly. Sighing he nodded slowly. "Ok, well I'm not going to push you. I just think that for a kid, stability is really important. So I don't want her moving around too much you know? So maybe I'll just come visit, if you have an apartment somewhere."
Looking down at the sonogram he grinned, his expression awestruck. "Can you believe we made something so amazing? It's so small..." How the hell am I gonna take care of another person? I can barely look after myself. Shit...
He blinked hurriedly, and smiled. "Have you got classes or anything I can come to? Like, breathing, or whatever?"

Liesl understood completely. SHe didn't want the baby to move around a lot either, which would make living under the same roof as him more appealing. SHe didn't think his coming to visit would be very stable either unless he came every single day at the same time. She already hated that things were starting out unstable to begin with. Kylie was ruining everything and Brody was just blind to it or something. "Maybe it would be better if you don't pursue a relationship with Kylie." She mumbled under her breath. "I don't currently have any breathing classes, but when I do, I suppose you can join me." She hitched her purse on her shoulder and started toward the door, her mood steadily dropping.

Brody closed his eyes as he caught the end of her mumbled statement. Starting a fight wasn't the smartest thing to do in the office, and Liesl really had been great so far about Kylie. It was more than he had any right to expect.
Opening his eyes again he smiled at her and nodded. "That would be great. Thankyou. I mean, you could have just not told me. I'm so glad that you want me around. Did you want me to drop you home, or you headed somewhere else?"
