By the end of the school day Monte was torn to shreds by his little chat with Aya. He couldn't make up his mind what he wanted to do, in three hours he'd managed to change his mind half a dozen times about what he would do with his relationship status between himself and Serena Torres. He'd half convinced himself that both he and Serena would better off if they stopped seeing each other and she went on hating him, or whatever it was she was doing. He hadn't seen her at school, suspecting that she was avoiding him, or maybe he was unconsciously avoiding her, taking different routes through the hall, eating in a different location in the lunch room during lunch hour, keeping his phone off. He felt like pure scum for even joining Aya on the roof and even worse for taking part in more than just conversation with the girl he loved. He couldn't keep that detail to himself if he was truly going to be honest with Serena, she was just stubborn enough to find some way to figure it out.
He didn't have a thousand yellow daisies or a dozen red roses, but he managed to pick up a chocolate mint milkshake from Palmer's, in hopes that she might actually open the door and accept it from him. He rang the doorbell and turned around to face the street while he waited. He was trying to practice what he would say to her if she came to the door, or what he'd ask someone to relay to her if she didn't and someone else did, but even in his head it got jumbled and he knew if he somehow managed to get the words to stick in his head, that by the time he went to deliver his makeshift speech it would just get jumbled again.

Monte had a similar response to her opening the door as she had, he couldn't say anything, he just stared at her, feeling worse with every silent second, for doing everything he'd done or not done. He looked at the milkshake in his hand and nodded. "Uh, huh. Chocolate mint." He tried a smile, but his nerves were too messed up and it came out more like a frown than anything else. He wasn't good with apologies. "I'm sorry." He finally mumbled, holding out the milkshake in it's styrofoam cup to her. "I didn't mean to be dishonest with you or keep anything from you intentionally and I didn't mean to make our relationship sound like it didn't mean anything to me, because I've been torn to pieces over what I did." He looked down at his shoes. "I want to be honest with you and I don't want this to be the last time I see you or the park to be the last time I kiss you, hold you, feel you. Aya and I got together today at school, she searched me out at lunch and we went up on the roof to talk and more than talking took place." He glanced up at her and then looked down at his shoes again. "And I can't lie, I enjoyed almost every second I was with her, but she's taken even the slightest hope of us getting back together out of the equation and just wants to be friends." Again his eyes flicked from his shoes to her eyes and this time they remained there. "But if you decide you're going to forgive me, I don't want anymore confusion. I'll have to be your boyfriend and you my girlfriend and we can't have what we had before because it's too confusing, neither of us can keep it casual, we couldn't keep any other committed relationships together, but we can't not have one either because one of us will just be offended...Please, Serena... I'm begging you."

Monte turned as she walked out onto the porch, but didn't move from the spot in front of the door. "She didn't seek me out to hook up." He said, defending Aya. "She just wanted to talk, nothing happened when we saw each other before and there was too much emotion and tension I..." He stopped and sighed. "I'm sorry, she wants to be friends and nothing more than that and if you still want to be with me, then it would nice to have your blessing there." He found her eyes and with a little bit of hesitancy he approached her.

Monte sat on the swing beside her and put his head in his hands. "Yeah, I kissed her, more than just a little peck, but no more than that, I held her in my arms and for a few minutes I got to feel like my world hadn't been turned upside down. We didn't break up, Serena, I assumed it was over because I thought she died and yes, I know you like me a lot and I like you a lot too, which is why I'm here telling you all of this shit and trying to get you to come back to me. He ran his hands through his hair frustrated and groaned. "You aren't that person and you said it yourself, I wouldn't be here if Aya had made it clear that we had a chance to get back together. She's seeing some other guy and she wants me with you, she told me not to wait too long to come talk to you and apologize and that's it. What do you say?" He asked. If she says no, you're going to New Orleans as soon as Avery returns from Tech and that'll be that, no more relationships, no more nothing, no random hook ups, no casual sex, no communication between anyone, you'll just disappear. Don't try to convince yourself otherwise. There is nothing left for you in this town and once Avery is back, his kids aren't going to need you anymore.

Monte looked at her as she spoke and he nodded, relieved and then again not. Sure he was happy she still wanted to be with him, but if he messed up, gave into temptation, or just decided a relationship wasn't his thing, he'd be in a lot of trouble. The idea of going to live in his hometown and just disappear was more appealing than the potential he had of screwing things up with Serena. He didn't know if this uncertainty crossed his features or not, but he was determined to pull himself out of this depressive state. "It's what I want." He said, placing his hands on his knees and pushing himself off the swing, he couldn't sit anymore, but he also had nothing else to say.

Monte ran his fingers through his hair, he hated relationships too, he'd been perfectly happy with the way things were going for him and Serena before Aya turned up and because he and Serena hadn't been officially together, he never would have thought things would get this messed up and now that they were he was feeling awkward. He wasn't sure what he was allowed to do and what he wanted to do was just simply walk away and see her tomorrow and then maybe this awkwardness wouldn't be present, but it was and he felt walking away wouldn't be appropriate.
