Henrietta yawned as she walked into the warm interior of the coffee shop. She was sure that Riverside had a Starbucks but she had a feeling that Mud and Grinds had a homey feel that she preferred over the generic Starbucks aura that she was too familiar with. Not to mention the baristas had a bad habit of talking her up. It was a bit creepy.
She undid the pink glittery scarf that hung on her neck; content to let the tassels brush against the dark denim of her jeans. Henri glanced at her black fur lined boots and smiled before walking up to the counter to place her order: A large cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon. She also picked out a white chocolate and macadamia nut cookie before paying for her purchases and taking a seat in one of the booths. It seemed like the shop was a bit full today as she had luckily taken the last remaining vacant booth; good for her.
Once Henri had slid inside, she shrugged off her dark jacket and set it on the far side of the table with her pink scarf; content to sit there in her white-gray long sleeved shirt. She didn't bother to remove the matching pink knit hat on her head; Henri did, however, tug idly on the fishtail braid that hung by her right ear. Once she was comfortable she swiped a dollop of whipped cream from her mug and sucked on her finger thoughtfully; her eyes were wide in curiosity as she scanned the full cafe.

Oxanna was in a bad mood. It had started raining earlier in the morning when she had taken a walk. Not to mention, they had ran out of food for Sylvia and she had been hungry all day. Oxanna had to run to the grocery to pick up some Mac n' Cheese - which Sylvia was craving. Luckily, she had her twin brother back at the apartment to make sure that Sylvia was wellfed, bathed, and fine, right? Wrong. She didn't know where Oleksandr had gone. Maybe he had taken a walk himself? Or gone out? She didn't know. There was just a note sitting on the TV that read, 'Gone. Be back later.' She wasn't sure what to expect. Hopefully he would come back soon. She was feeling down in the dumps and distressed. What a great way to move into a neighborhood, right?
Oxanna had satisfied Sylvia's needs and had fed her before deciding that she wanted a little relaxation break herself. She loved coffee in the morning but they were lacking a coffee-maker at their apartment. She just assumed that she would take a walk (it stopped raining, thank goodness). Maybe look around the small town and get to know it better. And, of course, she had to take Sylvia with her as well.
So there she was. Staring into the coffee shop through the windows. She pushed the door open and sighed, then walked up to the counter to order a frappuccino. Once the order was filled and the frap handed to her, Oxanna glanced around the exterior... No, you've got to be freaking kidding me... her mind raced and she felt her heart sink. She wanted to smash the frap with her fingers and let the coffee spill all over as she raged in anger, but that would do no good. Besides, it would only attract a crowd and she hated attention and people, so...
She honestly didn't think that the Mud n' Grinds would be so... well, packed. Riverside was a small town, so she guessed that the coffee here was good. She had really been in the mood for Starbucks, but she had stumbled into this place, and it didn't seem that bad.
Except for the fact that it was full.
She heaved a sigh and calmed herself down, debating what to do. She could always ask somebody if she could sit with them, but she hated society and socializing and that kind of stuff. Talking about her family or even Sylvia made her uncomfortable. It didn't matter, though. She was too lazy to walk all the way back home now.
"Hi," she said casually, walking up towards a girl. "Mind if we sit here?" Oxanna offered a (fake) smile.

[ Hi! I'm so glad someone replied to this thread! :') Sorry for the late reply and welcome to the boards! LOL ]
Henri was proceeding to dip her cookie into the hot chocolate, watching in mild fascination as pieces of the cookie broke off and disappeared into the chocolate wasteland of her drink. She took a bite of the pastry and sighed, leaning back and closing her eyes in relish. “This is so good.” She moaned softly to herself before putting the cookie back on the cute plate it had been served on.
The young girl was bit lonely, regretting the fact that she had not brought along her copy of Stieg Larsson’s last novel to read. Then again, it was a perfect opportunity to people-watch. Her sisters thought her weird for having such a hobby but she was laid back enough and curious enough to enjoy observing people live out their daily lives. It wasn’t like it was stalking or anything so it was perfectly normal… Right?
A beautiful girl walked up to her; she definitely looked European. She was probably a few years younger than her, but the almost-plastic smile on her face seemed to ruin her beauty. Henri offered her a cheeky smile of her own and shrugged. “Sure by all means, go ahead.” She wouldn’t admit it but the girl interested her; she was alone and seemed like the type to bite your head off if you really deserved it.
