"I'm not surprised that she does..." he chuckled again, thinking of what Brooklyn could possibly be like when he wasn't around. There was a small silence before Madison answered, just enough time for him to get a sip of his water. His eyes widened slightly then at her answer given to him. He had to set his drink down before responding even, just in case he accidentally spilled from such surprise or something. "Oh, really? Didn't see that coming..." he chuckled, but pulled off a serious face when he quickly added in, "I mean, I figured with how tough you seemed that you'd be into some sort of sport or something. But I don't think I was expecting wrestling to come out of your mouth. That's awesome though. How long have you been into it? Like, when did you first start, or something?"

Madison grinned at his tough comment. "Oh yeah, I'm tough all right. Don't you forget that." She flinched a little as soon as the words emerged from her lips. She had issued the semi-threatening statement because she was thinking of him as David, a guy that she needed to stay away from, a guy that she had to distance from herself and her confusing feelings. It had slipped her mind for a few seconds that he was also David, the father of one of her students, which made him someone that commanded at least some sort of level of politeness from her. "I-uh started my freshman year," she said, talking in a casual laid-back tone. "My school didn't let girls play on the football team, so wrestling seemed like the next best thing. I wound up loving it just as much as I loved football." Just then, the waitress appeared to take their orders. Relaxing some more, Madison leaned back in her chair and ordered a bacon double cheeseburger with extra fries.

David chuckled at her further comment. "Oh, don't you worry, I won't." He shook his head playfully with another small laugh. Another surprise hit him then. She's into football, too? Damn...maybe I really shouldn't be messing with her... Should I even consider another date with her? "Wow, football? Damn. I mean, that's pretty damn impressive considering I'm just some guitar guy that sings. I mean, I have tried my own brand of sports, but its never really stuck with me like it obviously has done for you. It probably explains why I'm so.....not as muscular as some of the other guys out there..." he shrugged, leaning back in his chair to get a little more comfortable, only to lean back up again though when the waitress came back for their order. He gave her his order of a double cheeseburger and fries and turned back to Madison after the waitress had left.

"Ewwww muscles," Madison said, making a face. "They're so overrated. I mean, they're nice sometimes, but I think people make too big a deal out of them." She really wished that he hadn't made that comment about his physique. It was causing her mind to wonder just how strong he actually was. "And don't worry about being like those athletic guys either. They're not all that appealing anyways." The ones she came into contact with in high school certainly weren't. Half of them spent most of their time trying to get into her sister Taylor's pants and the other half were too busy assuming that Madison was a lesbian and picking on her for it. "My father got me into football at an early age," she added, cringing a little as she mentioned him. "I guess he knew that I wouldn't grow up to be as pretty as my sisters."

David couldn't help but laugh at her reaction to the muscle comment. "Yeah, I guess they are, huh?" he glanced down at his food, and picked up a fry but not putting it in his mouth just yet. He glanced back up to her again, eye to eye. "I'm sure most of them aren't, either." he laughed again, finally taking a bite of his fry. He took a moment while she spoke to him, to take a few bites out of his burger before wiping his mouth off at the moment when she said she wasn't as pretty as her sisters. "Wait, are you serious? Granted, I haven't met any of your sisters...but really? Even if your dad did think that, I think he was wrong to. 'Cause you really are very, very pretty. There's not very many girls who can be both beautiful and fit as you, Madison. Not to mention, very good with kids." he added in, mentioning in his daughter for that quick moment.

Relieved and surprised that the food had appeared so quickly, Madison immediately began diving in. She was starving. She was so glad that she hadn't gone with her original plan to order an appetizer and call it a night. She would have really hated herself later on. She was in the middle of making some serious headway with her burger when she heard his flattering statement. She was so stunned that she nearly choked. "Y-you think I'm beautiful?" she asked after washing down her burger with a huge sip of coke. Having grown up with Taylor as a sister, beautiful wasn't exactly a word that Madison and her other sisters were used to hearing. Geez, don't get your panties your in a twist, he was only saying that to be polite....he has a girlfriend, remember? "Thank you for the polite compliment," she said, trying to mentally calm herself down.

David wanted to tell Madison to slow down a bit, especially since she nearly choked on part of her hamburger when she heard his comment about her. He couldn't help but smile wider though. "Yes. I do." he answered her in return. "You seem like its such a shock to get such a compliment." he chuckled softly, grabbing a few fries to stick in his mouth. After chewing them down and swallowing he quickly added in, "And you're welcome by the way." he smiled just as widely as before, and chowed down on another bite of burger.

"Yeah it is," Madison said after taking yet another bite of her burger. "But once I remembered that you probably say things like that to a lot of people, I calmed down. It's not such a big deal now." Wanting to shift the topic away from herself, she shoved a handful of fries in her mouth and thought of something else to discuss. "So what made you decide to become a rock star?" she asked. "Is it always something that you wanted to do or did it just come to you one day?" She made her question as long as possible, hoping that it generated an even longer response.

David tilted his head slightly to the side. "What makes you think I say stuff like that to a lot of other people?" he pondered, mostly to himself however, considering Madison seemed to have changed the subject purposely next. "Well, I have always wanted to do something that involved music. Ever since I was eight, I played songs on my dad's guitar he gave me before he head out to war." David paused right there. Did he just tell her something even remotely personal about his life? Fortunately, David just shrugged it off and finished what he was saying. "But yeah...ever since then, music's been a part of my whole life. Up until Brooklyn was born I mean..."

"Because you're a musician and musicians often say things like that to their...." Groupies.... Madison stopped herself before the word left her mouth. As much as she hated it, she was slowly tuning into one of his groupies. She found herself always playing his music, even when it wasn't naptime for her students. She had even secretly burned a copy of his CD for herself to listen to when she wasn't at school. How come his girlfriend wasn't on any of the songs? If I sang like that, I would have wanted my voice to be heard.... Her mood immediately shifted when he mentioned his father going off to war. She had no idea what that was like. Her father wasn't around for some parts of her life, but he was always in the same town as she was for the most part. She wondered how their relationship would be if he was in the military. "I-I'm sorry," she replied, positive that David probably didn't want to talk about his father any more than she wanted to talk about hers.

"To their what?" David asked, tilting his head to the side as he bit off a piece of his fry to chew on. As much as he wondered what it was Madison was going to say, he knew it was best if he let it be. This was still their first...was this a date? David was still wondering if Madison even felt the same way about him that he did for her. He had a slight feeling that she did, but he couldn't be too sure, what when how she acted and all. It did seem like she was getting a bit soft whenever she was around him though...Maybe that was Brooklyn, he didn't know. He broke out of his trance then when she apologized for his dad going off to war. "Oh, its fine. I mean, I know and understand what he did was for the best. And...its not like he left me alone or with horrible people or anything." he shrugged it off, looking back down at his food, more poking at it now than anything.

"Oh I see, I just can't imagine having to deal with that....." Feeling as though she had hit a sore spot in the conversation, Madison put down her burger and pushed her plate aside. "I guess we should probably get going now," she said. "It's getting late and you have to go get Brooklyn. You don't want to keep her out too late." She was actually starting to get comfortable around him, which was not a good thing at all. She wasn't in the mood to be a substitute for someone's girlfriend again. She nearly burst out laughing as an image of David's blonde gorgeous girlfriend appeared in her mind. He thought I could be a fill in for her? Please.... Even if he only liked her as just a friend, her embarrassing crush on him would more than likely make things weird.

"Most people can't...so you're not alone." he explained, looking around the diner for a quick second, only to find they were the only ones in there. He turned back to Madison then the moment she said they should go. No! His mind wanted to say, but he knew better than to stay out too late. Especially when he did have to pick Brooklyn back up. His brother and sister-in-law couldn't babysit her forever, he knew that. "Oh, yeah, I- I guess we should." he said, waving his hand at the waitress as a hint to bring over their check. "Oh! Before we head our separate ways though." He started. There was no backing out of this now. He had to ask her. "Do you think you maybe, you know, want to go out to dinner another time..with me?" It didn't come out as smoothly as planned, but he got it out nonetheless. And he only hoped that she wouldn't turn the offer, or him, down.

He wants to have dinner with me again?! After the waitress bought the check and boxed up Madison's leftover food, Madison got up from her seat, her mind racing like crazy. "I-I don't think that's a good idea," she said as she opened up her wallet and took out enough cash to cover the tip. Even though he had said it was his treat, she still felt obligated to contribute something. "David, you're a great guy but I'm your daughter's teacher. Wouldn't that be kind of weird? Plus, I'm not interested in being a fill in for whenever your girlfriend's busy. I'm sure she wouldn't be too thrilled about the idea of us going out to dinner together." She put the money down on the table and smiled politely. "Anyways, thank you for dinner. I had a nice time. Good night." She walked out of the diner and headed in the direction of her car.

David pulled out the appropriate amount of cash and left it out next to Madison's tip. He didn't even bother to argue with her about why she was paying anything at all, because honestly, he was still trying to figure out what made Madison decline his offer for another dinner. Girlfriend? he heard her say. "Wait...Madison.." he tried to say, but she just kept on going. He couldn't believe she actually thought that he and Aeryn were together. Well, okay, maybe they did try a little fling, but it didn't even go far enough to even say they ever went out! He watched Madison walk out the door, and part of him just stood there, speechless, while the other half kept trying to push him out the door with her. He had to get all this straightened out with her. Whether she wanted to listen or not.
After tossing the rest of his change on the table, he raced out the door and to her car. "Madison, wait!" he called out, quickly catching his breath before continuing what he was saying. "Madison, I don't think you know what you think you know. I don't have a girlfriend. Aeryn, she's...she's my bandmate. You know? We're nothing more than friends, and bandmates. That's it. I only asked you out to dinner because, well, because I like you. You're different than the other girls I used to date. Possibly someone better, even. I understand if you still don't want to go out with me, but... I just thought I'd clear everything up, before you jump into anymore conclusions."
