The shampoo sat in his hair for at least ten minutes before he rinsed it out. He sighed lightly realizing he probably was over reacting, but he was not ready to apologize. She was over reacting as well and she had managed to insult him at the same time. At least that's how it seemed to Edward. He let the warm water continue to run over his body. He closed his eyes and put his face in the stream of water trying to wash away his aggravation, but it wasn't going to work. Not yet anyway. He had to cool down and he wasn't sure how long that would take him.

The shower stayed on longer than Ser expected it to be. He usually did take 5 minute rinses but then again, maybe he was using the time to cool off. Well he did need to cool off; what in the world had made him so hot-headed anyway? Then again, she wasn't any better. She probably had hurt his feelings with that side comment; but she hadn't meant to! It just came out!
She was already standing so she began pacing the floor, mildly thinking that she'd put a track in the carpet but she didn't really care. Ser was still thinking about making up with him, then again her pride made her reconsider. She didn't want to be the first to apologize and she didn't want him to think that she was wrong with what she said; he had been mean to her too after all.

Edward sighed lightly and decided that he was calm enough to talk to her at least. He didn't want to fight, but if he had to, he would at least do it without yelling. Their neighbors liked to call the cops about every little thing and he didn't want that happening right now, if they hadn't already. He licked his lips as he turned the shower off. Getting out he dried himself off and then wrapped the towel around his bottom half. He walked away from the bathroom and to his bedroom, knowing she would still be in there. He sighed when he realized it was still locked. "Damn it, Ser, open the door, I need clothes."

She had been so busy with her internal argument that she didn't even hear the shower turn off. Ser jumped when she heard him right outside the door and she hesitated to reach out and twist the knob. She could have been cruel and locked him out but instead she took a deep breath, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear before finally opening the damned thing. Taking a few steps back, she sat on the bed and watched him, chewing on her bottom lip as she tried to think of something to say.

He moved into the room without looking at her and got dressed fairly quickly, not wanting to be exposed to her while he was angry. He didn't know what to say to her because, really, he had nothing to say at the moment that wouldn't be rude or stupid. So he said nothing. Instead he pulled his shorts and t-shirt on and moved out of the room, slamming the door as he left. Apparently the shower hadn't cooled him off very much. He wanted to leave, but he had promised that he stay all day and help her. He doubted they'd get anything done, but he still couldn't turn back on his promise. It just wasn't Edward. He decided that one more beer wouldn't hurt, hopefully it would calm him down. He pulled it out of the fridge and sat down at the kitchen table before he took his first swig. It tasted bitter and he hated that taste, but a man could drink a beer. He'd always been told that. Even if he hated his father more than anyone else in the world, he never forgot that. "A man drinks beer, son. Choke it down. Don't show that you hate it. If you do you're weak." Edward had been fourteen years old when his father told him that and he still believed it to this day.

Ser said nothing and watched him move about the room as if she didn’t even exist. It hurt her to see him treat her so flippantly but a part of her was getting mad at him as well. She would admit that she had said the wrong things but it wasn’t like she was entirely to blame, right? It infuriated her to think that he could treat her like this if they had fights in the future. Was this how it was going be when they fought? He’d say a few mean things and then ignore her until he thought it right to make up? He slammed the door and it made her jump which made her even more on edge.
A soft but frustrated groan escaped her lips as she stood up to confront him. He made it seem like he was the victim in all of this. Geez! She ran a hand through her already messed up hair before opening the door, finding every ounce of courage in her being to face Edward. It wasn’t that she was scared he’d hit or something; God no. Edward would never hurt a soul. She was scared that she’d say things she didn’t mean, things that would be remembered and would cause little rifts in her relationship with the man she loved. She knew arguments were normal, and they never really had an argument before. Maybe that was why she was so frightened. This was all new territory to cover.
She took a deep breath and walked into the living room, expecting him to be sulking there. No dice. Ser turned to peek into the kitchen and there he was, nursing another beer. She bit her bottom lip and tried to make eye contact but it didn’t seem like he would look at her. She sat down across from him and fiddled with her engagement ring; twisting it around her finger and letting the light sparkle on the simple diamond in the middle.

He heard the door of the bedroom open, but he didn't move. He didn't want to deal with it. Maybe he was being selfish, but it seemed to him like she thought he didn't know what he was doing. He had been raising this little girl for seven years and he had never, would never put her in harms way. Ever. He loved her more than anything and to him, it felt like she had just doubted him. He couldn't stand that.
He loved Seraph, he did, but it aggravated him beyond belief that she of all people would say that. He took a huge gulp from the bottle in his hand and stared off at the wall in the opposite direction of him. She sat down and he didn't say anything, still staring at the wall. His only words to her would be horrible, and he didn't want that. He didn't want to hurt her anymore. He knew he already had. He looked down at the table and watched her hands as she twisted the ring around her finger. Surely there was something she wanted to say, but she wasn't talking, "What?" he snapped as he looked up from her hands to her eyes.

He made her jump. Again. Ser sighed softly and bit her bottom lip. Sure she was losing her temper with him, he made it seem so easy! But she wanted to fix things already. She wasn’t comfortable with fighting with him. It hurt a lot and left her with this weird, unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach. Not to mention Daylin would be home later and she never wanted to see her fight with Edward.
She had hated it when her father and her mother would fight when she was young. It made her feel like, somehow the argument had stemmed from her not being a good daughter. She’d put all the blame on herself and it made her feel awful. It terrified her to think that Daylin would ever see her and Edward in such a state, thinking similar things.
Ser shook her head and stared at Edward; she could see the angry fire burn behind his beautiful eyes and it broke her heart just a bit. “You need to stop doing that; scaring the crap out of me I mean.” She removed her engagement ring and fiddled with it, gripping it in one hand before transferring it to the other. Its weight comforted her somehow, giving her the strength to keep talking. “You know I think you’ve done everything you can to be a good father to Daylin. You know that don’t you?”

He didn't say anything when she asked him to stop scaring her. He hadn't realized he'd been doing it, he was just angry. The thing was, he didn't like this, but it was what he was like when he was mad and that simply couldn't be helped.
She asked if he knew and Edward averted his eyes. He didn't want her to get into his head. He didn't want to calm down yet. He just wanted to be mad for a little while and he knew she would calm him down, she always did. Sure he had never been this mad before, not at her, but he knew this time would be no different. She would talk sense into him and he didn't want that yet. He just wanted to be mad for a while. He shook his head lightly, "Just because you think I've done everything I can doesn't mean you think I'm a good father. It just means you think I tried hard." He took another drink of his beer and shook his head lightly. "Because I'm going to get wasted, apparently and forget that my daughter exists, because she hasn't been here for seven years or anything." He shook his head again and laughed up at the ceiling. "I took perfectly good care of her before you even came into the picture, so I don't know why you need to remind me that she's there."

He still wouldn’t look at her but a small seed of hope sprouted when she saw the guilty expression on his features. Maybe he hadn’t known that he had scared her… All the things he said ruined that angle however. It seemed like he just wanted to get her angry and it was working. “How can you say things like that? Do you really think that’s what I’ve thought of you? Is that really what you think is in my heart?” She bit her bottom lip and shook her head, feeling hurt and angry and insulted.
“You’re doing it again Edward! Putting words into my mouth! I didn’t say any of those things; you just keep telling me that I implied them but I didn’t! You just thought them! Maybe that’s what you’re afraid of… Maybe you’re scared that I’ve been thinking all those things but I want to clear that up because I haven’t!” Angry little tears began to bead at the corners of her eyes, betraying the hurt and pain that she felt at his cruel words. A soft gasp escaped her lips as he continued to speak. He really did know how to drive the knife deep in and to the hilt. She was sure he had twisted it a bit too, proverbially speaking of course.
Her bottom lip trembled and suddenly her ring felt like a heavy rock in her hand. She set it down on the table, scared that it would burn her if she touched it. Silence descended over the both of them and she had a hard time breathing through the thick tension; it was like a fog. “Is that really what you think of me Edward?” Her voice was barely a whisper but she couldn’t manage any louder than that. She just couldn’t.

She didn't understand, did she? "That's what everyone thinks of me! I'm twenty-one years old and I have a seven-year-old daughter so I'm obviously no good! I'm obviously going to forget her because I'm not responsible enough for a child!" He was projecting everyone else's view of them onto his fiance and he didn't know how much that was hurting her. He watched her put the ring on the table and even the fear that she might leave it on the table and never put it back on wasn't enough to rid him of this anger.
Edward didn't want to answer any of the questions she was asking him. He just didn't, but he couldn't avoid them forever. The thing he didn't want to admit the most was that he didn't want to become his father. He didn't want to be the man that abused his family and then left when he was finished. He wasn't that kind of person, his mother had raised him better, but when he was angry like this, the whole world seemed to spin.
"Of course not, but that's what everyone else thinks so you might as well join the club," he said coldly. It seemed to him that she already had. "I mean, my own mother thought it, so why shouldn't you?" he asked. His mother had gotten used to the fact that he was responsible enough to care for Daylin long ago and had since stopped leaving him 'reminders' because they made him this angry. He looked down at his beer and shook his head. Daylin would have been better off somewhere else. They could have raised her in a happy home with a mother and a father in a house that wasn't just on the third floor. She could have had a backyard and a puppy, but he was selfish. He wanted her, he couldn't give her a better life because he didn't want to give her up.

Seraph couldn’t help as the tears trickled down her cheeks but she made no move to wipe them away. Every word was like a knife slowly sinking deeper and deeper and when he couldn’t move it anymore, he twisted it inside until it was impossible to remove. Her voice was steady but a single word from him would have broken it. Her bottom lip trembled but she tried her hardest to remain composed. “So… You’re saying that I’m just like everyone else? Am I just like everyone else to you?” It terrified her to think that he had thought of her as someone who would hurt him and Daylin and leave for bigger and better things but that was certainly what he was implying.
She stood up; her heart just couldn’t take much more of his accusations. Ser left the ring on the table. Maybe it was because it hurt to look at it now, or maybe it just burned her to know that the man she was marrying in less than 3 weeks could think those things about her. “I hope you haven’t forgotten that my mom was just a year older than you when she had me… And she’s one of the three bravest people I know.” Ser finally wiped away her tears and offered him a trembling smile. She wished he’d look at her but then again, if he did it would probably break her heart. “Take care of the ring for me. I’m going to go stay with my mom for a bit.” She turned away from him and walked slowly to the door. She stopped at the threshold and without looking back took a deep breath, saying, “You were one of the three people too you know.” And she walked away, silently closing the door as she left.
[Makes me so sad inside. :'/]

Edward stared at the wall after she left. He sat there for at least an hour. He felt as if his world had just come tumbling down on top of him. Had he really let his insecurities destroy this? Was he really going to let this happen. He had let her walk away in his clouded anger, he had let her leave the ring on his table. He had let her go to her mother's house who would no doubt hate him after this. He hadn't meant to let it get this out of hand, honestly he hadn't meant for it to happen at all, but he let his anger get the better of him. He swallowed and let out a sigh as he pulled out his cell phone.
Dialing the number for her cell phone he could hardly breathe. He wished she would have locked herself in their room again. No one else involved, no one else had to know, but now she was at her mother's house and God knew that if she didn't answer her phone he would have to go over there. He would have to call his own mother and explain because he'd have to ask her to pick Daylin up from school. He took a huge breath as the phone started to ring, maybe he deserved this a little, but he wasn't about to take all the credit for this argument. She had technically started it and when he had tried to calm himself down, she made an off hand comment that spiraled out of control. As it continued to ring he had given up hope, but he would wait until it went to voicemail.

She had managed to sneak into her home without raising too much of an alarm. Ser had taken a walk instead of driving, using the time to settle down and stop crying. It had also got her to thinking about her relationship with Edward. It did seem a bit overdramatic now that she didn’t feel so horrible but he had hurt her feelings.
Her mother was out back with her garden and the new family dog while most of her siblings and relatives were either in their own rooms or outside at school or work. She had snuck in to her old room, sighing in relief when she landed on her bed. It smelled like vanilla and sandalwood and she felt the comforts of home seal up the painful wounds from her argument with Edward like a balm over her heart. She would have fallen asleep then and there but she decided against it. Ser wanted to make up with Edward by the time Daylin arrived home from school. She knew she couldn’t hide the guilt she felt from the little girl and she didn’t want to either.
Ser decided to take a bath to unwind; she’d use the time to think of what to say to Edward. How to apologize and how to fix it between them as best as she could. She went to her bathroom and drew up a hot bath before stripping herself of her clothes and leaving her phone near the edge of the tub where it wouldn’t get wet. She put in a few drops of the same vanilla and sandalwood oil that kept her room smelling so good before getting it. She sighed softly and closed her eyes, wishing the day’s troubles would melt away and evaporate in the steam.
Her time of solitude was quickly interrupted however with the ringing of her phone. She sat up in surprise and clambered for her phone. Ser’s heart skipped a beat when she saw who was calling. She hadn’t even prepared what she wanted to say yet and he was already calling her; that was so like him. She took a deep breath before answering the phone hesitantly. “Hello?”

Hello? he heard coming from the line and he froze for a moment. He bit his lip. "You're not..." he said. "You're not like everyone else, I just--" he didn't know what he was saying, he wasn't apologizing necessarily, just hoping to talk through this maturely instead of screaming about it. He sighed, "I know you didn't know, but it really bothers me when someone--when someone tries to remind me about Daylin. I just..." he trailed off. "God, I should have planned this. Look, I love you. I'm not about to lose you over one stupid fight that we had because we were stressed. Could you please come home? So we can talk about it?" It was short and sweet, he didn't want to apologize and maybe that made him selfish, but he just wanted to talk it out right now and they would worry about apologies later. He just needed to know that she wasn't going to leave him over this one stupid argument.
