Aya laughed softly. "I could try? But honestly I'm afraid she'd beat me up." She shook her head in amusement. She missed times like this when she could just tell him things, words flowed from her without her needing to think about what she said because Aya knew that Monte would accept it all. She missed being with him, being held and touched by him, and being his. She missed it all. "Nothing in this world is final till we're dead and even then I'm sure God negotiates." Aya quoted her favorite line from Ever After and grinned at him. "I don't know what fate has in store for us, maybe we do have a happy ever after in the end..." She trailed off and gave him a sad smile. "And maybe not, I guess we'll just have to see." But she didn't want to hurt anyone, not Dan and not Serena. She knew he cared about Serena and she didn't want to get in the way of that. She cared about Dan and she would not just drop him because of Monte. Guess who is pregnant. Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. "SERENA?!"

Monte considered what she had to say, but wasn't convinced that they'd wind up together again, not any time soon, or any time in the future. "Serena might beat you up, but I wouldn't let her, I'd step in between you." His eyes traced over her lips, her jaw, and found her eyes. "Just don't go up to her unless I'm around, OK, that way she doesn't sock you." He couldn't keep his eyes off her lips, they were enticing and he missed them. "Can I negotiate with Him now?" He glanced up at the sky. "Can I kiss her and not be struck down by lightning?" He smirked and lowered his eyes to her again as she answered his question. "I think Serena would beat you up for that one..." He shook his head. "Gracie."

Aya smiled at that. "Hey at least I know you wouldn't let her kill me. I'm all for love and peace, not war." She grinned at him, noticing the way he was looking at her. It was distracting because it reminded her of how much she wanted to kiss him too. She had missed him terribly and now here they were, finally together--and not. "I don't think God would strike you down if you kissed me." She whispered softly, her eyes lowering to his mouth. "Then don't tell her I said that.", she laughed before continuing, "Avery knocked her up? What's going to happen when Avery leaves?"

Monte's eyes were fixed on her lips completely now as she asked him not to tell Serena what she'd said and then asked her questions about Avery, he was trying to keep himself from kissing her before he answered her, simply because he wouldn't want to break the kiss. "He did, twins and, uh, he asked me to step in." He didn't know how that would sound. "Because we're identical, he wants them to at least have a feel for what he looks like, so he won't be a complete stranger when he comes back." He was satisfied with his answer, but even more sure of what he'd come up with earlier in the conversation about going back to New Orleans. There would be less confusion for Avery's babies if he weren't around for a little while once he came back and if Serena wouldn't have him and Aya was set on staying separated, he saw no other option for him in Riverside, it'd just be a huge circle of grief. Nothing was set in stone, Serena might come around, or he could take her with him, it just needed more thought.
He broke himself out of the vicious circle of thinking about his not so certain future and leaned forward, pulling Aya's body into his as he kissed her, parting his lips, wanting to taste her completely again, it might be his one and only chance and he didn't want it to go to waste.

Aya listened to all his answers and a small frown began to form on her lips as she listened to him tell her about being a "filler" for Avery while he was away. "I think that's great that you're helping out your twin but how are you going to-- WAIT, you're moving back?! YOU'RE LEA--" She didn't get to finish because by then, Monte had covered her mouth with his. Her eyes immediately closed and she melted in his arms. Heaven. He was like heaven on earth; he tasted exactly the same and she remembered just how much she loved him that it seemed her heart wanted to burst and explode into colorful fireworks. He was leaving but she refused to let that dampen the beauty of the kiss they were sharing. Monte...

It had sunk in, but he wasn't going to elaborate now, he wasn't going to break the kiss for anything, the bell could ring, a suspicious school administrator could come up on the roof, hell, Serena and Dan could walk onto the roof and he wouldn't let her go, he couldn't, it'd be like letting her go get on that plane and losing communication with her all over again. His eyes were closed tight, his hands were searching her body gently, caressing her soft skin, drinking in every detail and even as he was enjoying her warm soft lips against his, the feel of her tongue, the taste of her mouth, his heart was breaking, his entire resolve crumbling. He wouldn't be able to go to any of his classes afterward, he'd just go home and lay in the dark.

Desperate hands searched for secrets she had missed or forgotten in him. Memories came rushing back to the surface and a desperate whimper escaped her lips as tears pricked the corners of her eyes. God she loved this boy, with all her heart. With every fiber of her being and maybe even more than that. She would love him till-- she didn't even know when she'd stop. The sad thing was that she knew she would have to, for everyone's sake. But she didn't want to, oh god she didn't want to. "I... love you." Her voice was broken and cracked in between kisses but she had to say it, had to tell him.

He opened his eyes as she said those three words again. He saw the tears and felt really cold despite the warm sun. He kissed her a few more times and then he had to stop, he couldn't keep doing this to both of them, it would be too hard to separate to walk away and too hard to pursue Serena. "I love you too." He combed his fingers through her short hair and then turned away, letting her go completely, he turned back to the edge of the building, the tears he'd witnessed in her eyes reflecting in his.

The tears fell slowly as she felt the numbness seep into her body. He had let her go and she too turned away as the tears continued to stream down her face. Aya had not expected it to happen the way it was turning out. She hugged herself, suddenly cold and shaking even as the sun continued to shine on the both of them. "This is so unfair..." The murmur was barely heard, almost a whisper to herself, a complaint against God because of the fate he had chosen for them.

He closed his eyes, placed his elbows on the wall and rested his head in his palms, only opening his eyes and staring at the school grounds when he was sure the tears had subsided. He wanted to continue talking to her, but what could you say to someone you loved and couldn't have? He agreed that it was unfair, but saying it allowed would feel wrong, like he was willing to take on Serena and possibly Dan's hurt just so they could have a little time together, but then what? What would happen if they were ripped away from one another again? It'd hurt them further and they hurt too much as it was. As the long silence fell between him his mind began to fill with what he needed to do and what he should do in regards to Serena. He would find her, but would he be able to tell her what he'd done on the roof top of the school they all attended five times a week? Would she speak to him again if he was honest with her? The way she'd responded before didn't prove so.

Aya sniffled softly and shook her head as if that would keep the emotions that threatened to overwhelm her at bay. She fumbled with the things that she had stuffed in her pockets, a small stack of letters she had tied together with twine. They envelopes were all the same lavender color that she used for her stationery. She turned to him and even when his back was to her, she moved a bit closer and slipped the stack into the pocket of his hoodie. "Just to show you that I did write, every single day. I want you to have them, I wrote them for you anyway." She laughed softly, not knowing what to say anymore as she put her hands in her pockets, fingering the smooth leather of her wallet where a picture of Monte still lay.
She walked backwards until she hit the wall and she closed her eyes. "Remember when we first met?"

Monte looked down as he felt the weight of her letters in his pocket. "I don't have any proof that I wrote you..." He frowned. "I did. You'll just have to take my word for it." She asked her question and he nodded, turning to look at her. "Yeah, you were running around snapping pictures of unsuspecting customers, blinding people with that flash." He grinned, he remembered quite well how he'd threatened to take her to court unless she sat down with him in the booth.

Aya smiled. "It's alright, I believe you." Her smile widened as she let the memories run through her as if it had just been yesterday. "You were a downright jerk then. Not sure why I let you get to me but you did." That had been the picture she had kept in her wallet, the one she had first taken of him and she knew it would always be there, always with her. "And remember when we went out to eat?" She giggled at the thought of him taking a bite of raw fish just for her.

Monte laughed. "Yeah I went from complete jackass to complete wuss." He smiled. "But I tried the raw fish just for you." He shook his head and folded his arms across his chest. "I don't do that often...ever, not even for my mom." He tilted his head and leaned against the wall, feeling better because they were talking about the good things in their past and not their painful future.

Aya laughed with him, she remembered the sheer terror on his face when she had offered him the sushi but he had bravely taken a bite even if they both knew he hated the stuff. "I know; it's something I'm never going to forget." She looked at him and smiled. "Remember the pool?" Oh the pool, their special place. Frozen or not, they still had a memory there and she'd never forget the time she spent with him, all of it.
