Shane sighed when Max finally finished, rolling his shoulder around. "Because I wouldn't let her." He shrugged. Shane had always been a pretty stubborn kid. "I always felt like since I was alone most of my life, I didn't need help from anybody. Of course, Naomi changed all of that. She found me on the ground at the playground and took my hand and dragged me to her house." He paused, chuckling softly at the memory. "When I asked why she wanted to help so bad, she said that I looked like I needed a friend as much as she did."

Max wrinkled his forehead while listening to Shane's short story. "Wow. Naomi really is like a mother to you." he said simply, before letting out a small tease he couldn't help but say. "You're like a stubborn child, you know that?" he chuckled, "and yet...you're older than Nai." Then his facial features returned serious again, placing a hand over Shane's good shoulder. "You've got a good friend though, Shane. Don't think anyone can take her away from you. Not even me."

Shane shrugged, standing and running a hand through his hair. "I know. I always have been. I had to be." He sighed. "Yeah, but only by a year. That hardly counts." At Max's next words, Shane shrugged again, this time a bit uncomfortably. "Yeah, I know. She's told me multiple times."

"You had to be a stubborn child?" Max questioned, raising his eyebrows only slightly. He could tell Shane was getting uncomfortable with this conversation carrying on, so he tried changing the subject. "Um, anyway, I think we've stalled long enough with the presents. Let's get wrapping." he led Shane out of the bathroom and grabbed the boxes and presents and started back up the stairs again.

"I didn't have the best upbringing." Shane said, as if that answered everything. He didn't feel like elaborating though, nor would he. Nodding at Max's suggestion, he followed him out the bathroom and grabbed the rest of the supplies, getting some tape and scissors and followed Max up the stairs into the living room. Plopping himself on the ground Shane pulled his present and placed it in a box. "I was never good at this." He muttered.

Max plopped down on the floor across from Shane, sticking his first present in one of the boxes. He chuckled at Shane's mumble just then. "S'okay. Neither was I." he admitted with a light laugh, tearing off a piece of the wrapping paper he thought was big enough, and began wrapping it around the box. Turns out, the piece he tore off, was bigger than he needed, and ended up with a bulky looking present. "See? Told you." Max laughed, holding up his pathetic looking wrapped present.

Shane couldn't help but laugh at Max's wrapping, "Holy shit man. She's never gonna be able to open that," though his wasn't any better. Unlike Max, who tore off too much, Shane grabbed to little, and didn't have enough to wrap the entire box. "Dammit. This is why we never have enough paper. I always mis-judge how much I need." He ripped the paper off and started again.

Max laughed at his own present as well, and looked over to Shane's present to see how he did. "Damn, Shane! And I thought I was horrible!" he blurted, starting on the second present he bought Arielle, and ripped off a new piece of wrapping paper. This time, he was much more careful though, and tore of just the right amount of paper he needed to wrap it. But, although he had enough paper, he still didn't exactly wrap the present as neat and smooth as it could have been. He grabbed a sharpie he had grabbed from the basement and wrote down the To and From and tossed the sharpie to Shane next.

"You are." Shane grumbled, rewrapping his present. This time he tore off a bit too much but he pretty much decided he didn't give a shit and wrapped it anyway. Catching the sharpie, he quickly scribbled to and from on it. He didn't really worry about the handwriting, it's not like Ari would be reading it any time soon anyway.

Max shook his head lightly even at Shane's second attempt at the wrapping. "Hey, too much is better than not enough." he told him after they had both finished. "So...you wanna get these presents to my house? Or would you rather keep your present till the party?" he asked, not really sure of what else to say or rather do now.

Shane stood, stretching. "We can take em to your place. I'll forget it if I leave it here." He grabbed the box, running a hand through his hair and wincing when that caused pain to shoot up his arm. "Plus, I know Naomi will be mad if I don't come back and talk to her for a bit, since I didn't stay long this morning."

"Alright then." Max nodded, wincing slightly himself when Shane winced at the pain in his arm. He grabbed his own gifts next, about to lead Shane out the door to the car when he thought of something. "Oh, and let's just hope that Nai won't worry too much about your arm." he shrugged, knowing there was no way Naomi wouldn't take a look at Shane's arm and not wonder what had happened, or even worry the slightest. She always worried, even at the littlest things.

"Dammit." Shane spun around to Max he said that, frowning. "I'll be right back." Taking off towards the stairs, he flew into his room and shrugged on a long-sleeved shirt, cursing when he snagged it on his bandage. He skipped the stairs back down, returning to Max's side. "Okay, now she won't notice. I don't need her passing out over this. She's done it enough already."

Max waited for Shane when he rushed back up the stairs, and nodded with an approved look of what he switched into. "Good. Just don't do too much that will cause it pain. Like, pick up Ari or whatever." he told him again, leading him back out to the car, unlocking the doors and setting his presents in the backseat again. "I don't think I could handle seeing Naomi pass out on us again anyway. Especially not in her condition."

"If she'll let me." Shane side, following him to the car. It seemed like every time he came over, Arielle demanded to be picked up. "I'm sure that can't be healthy." He said, continuing his thoughts, though Max probably had no idea what he meant. He climbed into the passenger seat, tossing his gift into the backseat as well. "Yeah, seeing that happen once is enough for me." He muttered, not very fond of that particular memory.
