"Have you been throwing up a lot the past couple days or this a new thing?" He asked, though he wasn't sure what he would do with the information once she gave it to him. "I feel lousy, I would rather I be the one feeling sick than you." He got her to the car and shut the door once she was moderately comfortable. "My mom was telling me before I came over how she only had real bad morning sickness with Monte and I. Dad had a bucket in the car for her." He chuckled nervously as he backed out and started toward the doctor's office. "If the doctor can't give you anything for this, I'll stop and get one ok?" He was talking mostly out of nerves. "You think Martin would have killed me if he Was still around?"

Gracie licked her lips, "I mean, it's been happening for like the past week, I mean, I threw up a few times before, but not anything like this. It gets really bad in the mornings, or if I smell something gross." She stuck her tongue out as she followed him to the car. She shook her head, "No, it would be weird if you were the pregnant one," she said with a soft giggle as she got into the car. She looked over at him, her head resting against the headrest and she smiled, "Oh yeah? We might have to do that. I'll have my special puke bucket for the car." She shook her head lightly, then licked her lips again at his last question, "I don't think he would have killed you. He wouldn't have been a happy camper, though..."

"Yeah you can decorate it all girly and I promise I'll do all the emptying and cleaning. Wouldn't want you to be violently sick while cleaning up your previous sick stuff." He wanted to hold her hand but decided keeping both hands on the wheel as he made a turn was best. "I wouldn't want to be pregnant just the one doing all the throwing up for you. I think it sucks that the guy has no pain during the pregnancy. You want to hit me later?" He joked.

Gracie smiled and shook her head lightly. "That's nice, but I don't know if I can stop puking long enough to decorate it. Maybe in the afternoon, before the night sickness kicks in." She looked over at him and blinked slowly, she was feeling alright for now. She giggled lightly at his statement and shook her head playfully, "No, I'm not going to hit you. I might when the baby is coming out. Maybe..." She felt a jerk in her stomach and pulled the back open between her hands, her face now resting between her knees before she groaned lightly, she was not enjoying this one bit.

Avery smiled. "Well maybe I'll decorate it." He surprised himself by pulling into the doctor's office parking lot already. "Closer than I thought." He parked the car and ran his fingers over her hair and down her back. "Let me know when you feel well enough to walk...I'm sure they won't toss your appointment out if you're a few minutes late. Do you know if they have a wheel chair?" He didn't think she needed one, but if she was going to toss her cookies then he'd rather roll her into the office than have her walk. He'd been quite weak after throwing up all day, he couldn't imagine how she'd feel after throwing up all week and all day.

Gracie lifted her head away from her make-shift puke bag and smiled lightly at him, "Thank you," she said. She shook her head, "No, I can walk. I should be fine. At least until we get to the office..." She opened her door and let out a sigh, she could definitely walk, she'd been walking between all of the episodes and she'd been fine. She was exhausted, although, not enough to need a wheelchair. She waited for him to stand up, because she was still feeling kind of woozy, and it would not be fun to fall in the parking lot.

Avery nodded and got out of the car and opened her door for her. "Am I coddling too much?" He asked, offering his hand. "I'm just worried about you and the baby and want to help as much as possible now because I won't be around for more than a year."

Gracie smiled as he opened the door and shook her head to answer his question, "No, I think its alright. I like it, kind of," she said, showing him her teeth. "I feel like you're just proving how good of a dad you're going to be, since you already care so much now, you'll care even more later." She got out of the car and put a hand on his shoulder to keep herself steady before taking his hand and pulling it around her waist, just so she could have a little support.

Avery nodded, he understood what she was saying, but he wasn't sure she would always be so alright with it. "Thanks, it makes me feel good that you think so." He tightened his hold around her waist as she guided his hand there and led her into the office. He got her to a chair and then went to sign her in and get any paper work they might need her to fill out. He returned without paper work and sat beside her. "Won't be long."

Gracie smiled, but didn't reply as they walked into the office together. She wondered what could be going on with her pregnancy, but she didn't think it was anything that wrong, after all, she was having morning sickness and that was a good sign, right? She sat down when they reached the chairs and waited for him to return. When he did, she rested her head against his shoulder lightly, closing her eyes, puke bag still in her hand, just in case. She was glad that there was only one other person in the room with them, and it was a pregnant woman with a two year old child, so she probably understood how Gracie was feeling.

Avery wrapped his arm around Gracie as she rested her head on his shoulder and stared up at the ceiling. If he'd known she'd become pregnant a few months sooner, he wouldn't have signed the contract, he would have waited, gone to college first, got a diploma and launched his officer status immediately instead of starting at the bottom. Now that he was sitting here, six months away from his BT he couldn't believe just how stupid he'd been about it all. "God, Gracie, I fucked up." He whispered.

Gracie lay motionless for the duration of their silence, but when he spoke she furrowed her eyebrows and lifted her head, "What do you mean?" she asked, looking at him again. She never could tell what he was about to say when he said something like that. She wished she had a way of getting into his head to figure it out. She didn't think he'd done anything to screw up, not recently at least. She put a hand on his arm and rubbed it up and down, "Talk to me, Ave, what do you mean?"

Avery smiled and pressed his lips against her cheek. "It's nothing, just talking. I uh, I should have listened to my mother." He laughed and held up a finger to stop her from thinking he meant his mother's advice about dating her. "I should have gone to college first instead of joining up. It's alright though, it won't take me long to rise through the ranks." He patted her leg. "I'm sorry."

Gracie furrowed her brow, wondering what he meant by that, and moved away a little bit subconsciously. When he continued his statement, though, she relaxed and nodded. She shrugged, "Yeah, but is that really what you would have wanted? I mean, I know you want out of school, babe, you'd be bored in college and you know it." She leaned forward and kissed him softly on the cheek. "This will be better in the long run, I think, anyway. Now we'll have a payroll sooner, so it'll make things right now easier..."

"No, it's not want I would have wanted, but I want it now. I could find a part time job, work through college, and then enter the force as an officer. I'd be gone during the fifth and sixth years of the baby's life, not the first year." He tried to pick himself back up off the emotional floor he'd tossed himself on, for Gracie's sake. "But you're right, we'll have a pay check now and I'll be happier..." That last part was somewhat of a lie, how would he be happier missing his child's first steps, first word, and watching that miraculous growing process. He squeezed her hand and glanced up as the pregnant woman with the small child was taken in to see the doctor.
