Gracie smiled as she was helped out of the car. He started the tour and she nodded, commenting here and there on the house. She loved it, she loved every bit of it. She couldn't wait for her little girls to come so that she'd have someone to share it with once Avery left for basic. She sighed lightly and nodded at her boyfriend as he told her to settle down. She sat on the couch and smiled at him again. "You don't have to make anything, really. Baby carrots or something will be fine. Ooh, or Celery, Peanut Butter and Jelly. Sounds gross, but its really good." As soon as she got done with that sentence, however, she felt that strange 'kick' again. She put both hands on her stomach, but this one hurt. "Ouch," she whispered. Why does it hurt? It shouldn't hurt, should it?

Avery was just about to press his lips to her forehead when she put both hands on her stomach and made her whispered exclamation. "You sure you're alright?" He licked his lips and got down on his knees so he was on eye level with her. "Are they kicking you in the ribs or something?" He wasn't sure what to ask or do, still convinced that she couldn't be going through labor, he didn't even think about it.

Graci shook her head. She didn't know if this was okay or not, but if really hurt. "I don't know, it just hurts. I don't think it's a kick because I can feel it all over and it doesn't feel the same..." She sucked in and held her breath. "And it hurts..." She didn't understand and in her mind something could be going terribly wrong in her pregnancy. "Oh God, Ave, what if somethings wrong with the girls?" She was panicking now and she couldn't figure out what this weird feeling could be.

Avery was more than concerned about this thing that was happening, he wouldn't be able to deal with his children and the mother of his children going through something terrible while he was away, if this thing decided to persist and wasn't resolved before he had to leave. "Did you want to call your mom? Or go to the doctor? Maybe the hospital?" He wasn't sure what to do. He was kicking himself for not being the best dad he could be by looking up what to expect during pregnancy and what each and every little bump or pain could be. "Maybe if you lay down?" He was just tossing out random options for her now. "Has it passed? Is it continuous?" He didn't know what he expected to learn from her answers, even if she said yes to one of them he'd still be none the wiser. "Maybe we should go to the hospital..."

Avery rattled off questions and none sounded good to her until she heard something about the hospital. "Hospital..." she said lightly, nodding gently. "That's probably the best idea. They'll know what's wrong..." She sighed as the pain passed and looked up at him, "Well it's gone right now..." She sighed again. "Ave, what do we do?" she asked, almost completely panicked. She had no idea what to do anymore. This was all new terrain for her.

Avery glanced up at her as she stated that the hospital was a good idea. Wow, that serious huh? He stood up and nodded. "Yeah, alright." He helped her back up on her feet. "If the pain comes back while we're walking, just let me know, we can take a rest." He wasn't sure how to handle her panic, he was panicking himself. At the car, he settled her in the passenger seat, wondering if maybe she'd be more comfortable in the back seat laying down, he was just too nervous to ask. The protective, inquisitive side of him was bursting to come out and with that came tons of questions and unnecessary coddling that she'd just find annoying. As he walked around to his side of the car, he had a little bit of time to think and labor crossed his mind, just popped into his mind out of no where. He slid into his seat and looked over at Gracie a small hesitant smile on his lips. "Gracie, what if you're in labor?" It was a long shot, they were still early, the doctor had said Gracie was more likely to go to full term than be early and he'd continued to say this at the doctor's appointments when Avery would playfully cross his fingers and ask if there was a chance he'd be able to see the girls. The smile disappeared as he remembered this and the panic set back in as Gracie's statement about there being something wrong with the girls settled back into his mind.

“Okay,” Gracie said as they exited the house, she didn’t understand what was going on, but she didn’t want to take it too lightly. Obviously something was going on since it wasn’t just a one-time thing. She got situated in the passenger’s seat and then he got onto the other side and the thought was put into her head. Her face went blank. What if you’re in labor? What then, Gracie? Then you’re going to be a mother? What are you going to do? Holy crap, you could be having babies right now! She shook her head, “On second thought, Ave, it’s probably nothing. Just a few weird kicks is all. They’re turning weird. I bet its nothing.” She shook her head. “We probably don’t have to go to the hospital.” I’m not ready for this, Avery. Make it stop! She licked her lips. It was the only explanation, though, wasn’t it? It was exactly how they told her it would be.

Avery stopped everything he was doing, hand halfway to the ignition. "Are you sure?" His eyebrows raised to their maximum height. "Gracie..." He had no words, he was too concerned for her and the girls to just give in, but the words coming out of her mouth just screamed, listen. "What if we sit here for a few minutes and if nothing happens then we'll go back inside, but if it happens again, we'll go?"

Gracie swallowed and nodded. I'm not sure, why are you lying to him? I'm so not ready to be a mother. I can't do this, I can't do this! Her panic probably showed clearly on her face, but she thought she was hiding it well. "I don't think it'll happen again. It's not a big deal, Avery, lets just go back inside. Maybe they'll settle down if I eat." As soon as she said those words, however, she had that feeling wash over her again and her hands went to her stomach, she couldn't hide that it was happening. Let's face it, it hurt like hell. No! Quit!

Avery was half convinced, but once her hands shot back to her stomach he shook his head, pushed the key into the ignition and drove her to the hospital. "I'm sorry, I know your scared, I'm scared too, but it's significant enough to go to the hospital, I don't know hardly anything about labor and giving birth, but I understand pain and it's never a good thing." He got out of the car once he found a parking space in the crowded emergency parking lot and left her in the car to retrieve a wheel chair, he didn't want her walking, even if she felt she could. "If it's really nothing, then we'll at least be safe instead of sorry, alright." He didn't want her to be upset with him.

Gracie rode the entire way to the hospital shaking her head, although halfway there she was just holding onto her belly with her eyes closed. Once he left she finally found her voice again and she shook her head at him as he brought the wheelchair back to the car. He opened the door and she shook her head, "No, Avery, I don't want to go in there! I can't! I can't do this!" She shook her head vigorously. She wasn't about to go in without a fight.

Avery let go of the wheel chair and kneeled inside the frame of the door so he was as close to her as he could possibly be without actually sitting on her. "You can do this. If you're having our babies right now, then you'll have six days where I can do all the work and you can relax. If Harper and Devyn are coming right now, I'll be in there holding your hand, letting you break my fingers and cuss me out until your heart is content. Wouldn't you prefer me to be here instead of going it alone?" He kissed her lips, practically pleading. "You're going to be a wonderful mother, I promise..." He moved out of the door frame and pulled the wheel chair closer. "Please."

As he leaned into her, Gracie immediately started crying. She shook her head. It wasn't that she seriously thought she couldn't, it was that she was terrified of something going wrong. She didn't want to deal with this right now. She nodded, though at his question, because the obvious answer was that she needed to get it over with now. She didn't have much of a choice in the matter, but if Avery was there it would be better. Isn't that what she wanted? Sure, but I didn't expect it to actually happen... She licked her lips after he kissed her and she nodded. She didn't believe him, but as he pulled the chair closer she moved her legs and maneuvered her way into the chair as carefully and quickly as possible.

Avery was relieved that she'd given in and wasn't choosing to be stubborn, he really didn't want to have to lift her out of the car and force her inside, it wasn't him at all. "Thank you Gracie girl." He kissed the top of her head as he took the handles of the wheel chair and started to push her toward the entrance of the emergency room. He pushed her up to the counter, gave her a short look and then looked at the lady behind the counter. "Um, my girlfriend is having some intense pain in her abdomen and we're not sure if it's labor or not..." He felt foolish and very much like a child.

Gracie shook her head as he kissed her, crossing her arms above her belly and looking away from him. She hated that he had to be right about this. She couldn't deny that he was right this time, like usual. She sighed and muttered a "whatever" as he wheeled her up to the emergency doors of the hospital. She was still crying, she didn't know what to do and she was trying to hide that fact from Avery, but he saw right through her facade, like always. She refused to look at anyone once she was inside, she wasn't hurting right now, and she hated that she had no control over the situation.
