The frown that had formed on Eli's face, stayed there. They had just met, and we're already having difficulties. Sure, it was trivial and didn't really matter, but what of something bigger came up? He thought they would probably have many sparring sessions if they became friends, because face it, neither of them seemed submissive in the slightest. If anything, he was more so than her, and that was saying something. When the woman grabbed Anne up from the table, though, his annoyance vanished at the look in her eyes. Yes, she was pissed, but he could also see how scared she felt. Anne really didn't like crowds, especially being watched by them, that much he could tell. She looked horrified as the woman practically shoved her on stage, shoving the mic into her hand. When the music began to play, Eli didn't once take his eyes off of her, wondering what the hell she was going to do. He was even debating on going up there himself just so she wasn't alone.

As much as Anne tried pulling out of the woman's grasp, it was no use, she was thrown up on stage in less than five seconds. She looked out in the audience, them staring back at her, some of them waiting impatiently for her to start. Her eyes were wider than normal now, and her hands clutched tightly to the microphone on the stand in front of her. "Uh--umm.." was all her voice could come up with in the microphone as the music started playing. She had definitely recognized the song luckily, and she would of started singing for fun...only if everyone would of left the place though. God dammit, Anne. You skateboard in front of a larger crowd than this....why the hell can't you sing a little song in front of this puny crowd? She looked over to where Eli was sitting then. His eyes set on her as well, but he looked more concerned than impatient. She could do this, she knew she could. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and began to sing the song.

Eli could see her knuckles turn white as she gripped that microphone stand. He let out a breath he hadn't known he had been holding with she took a breath and began to sing the words to the song. He was glad he didn't have to go up there, because he had a feeling she would have been super pissed that he didn't let her do it on her own, she would have admitted she needed it. He listed to her sing, she actually had a nice voice and it made him wonder what made her so afraid of crowds. He knew what happened to her, only due to the fact that he walked in on a very private moment in the church. A small smile formed on his face as he watched her grow more and more comfortable up on the stage. Was it weird that he was proud of her?

During the entire song, Anne had her eyes shut tight. If she had even opened them a bit, and saw even a glimpse of that crowd, she would of either had a heart attack, or had run off the stage and out of the coffee shop. Whichever came first. As the song came to the ending though, and the audience began clapping and cheering, that's when Anne had opened her eyes, slowly, and found herself still on stage. She took one look at Eli then, and saw how proud he looked for her. She managed a small smile on the edge of her mouth to him then, before letting go of her grip on the microphone and practically rushed back to her seat, slumping back into it without saying another word. She was speechless really. She never thought that she would ever do that in her life. And she still had no idea what it was that made her want to start singing in the first place, instead of her usual running away and making a scene.

When Anne made her way back to the table, Eli's face broke into a huge grin. She had done great on stage, and he was so happy that she had overcome her fear, even it may have been a one time thing. He just couldn't believe se stayed up there, with how adamant she had been before was forced up there. Nevertheless, he felt the need to tell her how good she was. "Anne, you were fantastic, really." He said, watching her. "You never said you were so good." He wondered why she would want to hide her talent from the world, probably the same reason he hid his. He was almost afraid that if were to let it be known, that it would be taken from him too. Just like everything else he held dear to him. "How did it feel?" Eli asked, wondering if she herself thought it was worth it.

Anne sat there with her body slumped in her chair and head held down for the most part until Eli finally spoke to her. A bit startling, she would say she was. "Erm..thanks." she mumbled rather quickly, giving him a quick glimpse of smile before looking back down again. She was thrilled that she overcame her fear up there. But something kept telling her that this wasn't just some random thing she felt like doing. Something, or someone was urging her to go for it; rooting for her even. He is a nice guy. But..no, I just met him. I don't get crushes...I'm not that type of girl.... she kept telling herself. She glanced back up at him when he spoke to her again. But the only thing that managed to come up was, "It was alright." she shrugged her shoulders slightly, and cleared her throat before adding in one more thing. "I-I think I'll stick with skateboarding though."

That quick little smile that fleeted across her face was enough to warm Eli's heart, if only for a moment. He realized then, that in the few hours they had spent together he had scarcely thought about his parents. For once, their death hadn't been haunting his every move. What was it about her? What made her different than all of the rest of the people in this town? Maybe it was the fact that she knew. She knew what happened to him, and he her. Anne could relate to the feeling of having a constant dark cloud that seemed to follow him everywhere he went. "You're welcome." Eli said, a small smile forming on his lips. "I'll have to see you skate sometime then, if you enjoy it that much." He once again wished he could bring himself to do what he loved to do, if only it didn't hurt him as much as it did to do so. He guessed that it was kind of his way of spiting whatever it was that decided that it could just steal his family from him. Though he did like skateboarding, he never did it before his parents died. His mother didn't approve of it, she thought it was too dangerous. Secondly, it just wasn't as fulfilling as what he really wanted to do.

When Eli responded back, Anne couldn't help but feel her stomach do some more flips again. More so than before actually. She clutched on tighter to her stomach with her arms, peaking her eyes out on Eli's every other moment or so when he spoke to her. "You should. I've been getting pretty damn good." she started feeling part of her confidence coming back then once they started talking about skateboarding again. That seemed to be her security blanket of some sort. "What with all the practicing I've been doing lately." she chuckled lightly. "I actually just signed up for a Holiday competition. It's happening just a few days before Christmas if you're willing to show up." she offered, gaining her confidence back little by little again.

Eli responded with a small smile that formed on his lips. He liked that she seemed to be confident with in at least one aspect of her life. Then again, loosing everything important to you will do that to you. Loosing everything would make you feel that moving on was wrong, that trying to enjoy life was some kind of betrayal. He watched the occasional peeking of her eyes and a small chuckle escaped his lips, she was adorable. "I'd enjoy that." He told her with a smile and a nod. "It's good that you've committed to something." True, he barely knew her, but he knew just how hard it could be to even wake up in the morning. "I'm sure you'll kick ass at the competition. Even if you don't, it doesn't matter. You had fun doing it."

Anne returned the smile back to him. Something about Eli...something about him just made her feel better about herself. Maybe because he knew how she felt...or, he knew what it must feel like to go through everyday without getting even a glimpse of your own blood-related parents. She felt a place in her heart slowly warm up to him. He was definitely someone she could trust, she could tell that for sure. "Psh..of course I'll kick ass in the competition!" she laughed. "I'm pretty positive I'll win top three at least, too. I feel that confident about it." she grinned wider, crossing her arms and puffing out her chest with her chin raised up in confidence.

Eli let out a chuckle at her confidence. It made him happy to see someone who seemed so small just moments before, light up and even be a little cocky. He didn't think he'd ever enter a competition himself, but he'd surely go to watch her skate. He even ventured to believe that her parents would be proud of her, even though he never met them himself. "I wish I had that, you know." He said glancing at his semi abandoned drink on the table before looking at Anne again, "Something to be proud of. When my parent's passed I kind of gave up everything. Now I wish I hadn't." He shrugged.

Anne listened to what he had to say, but she really didn't want to believe any of it. Sure, when she found out about her family, she wanted to crawl into a hole too...give up on everything, never come out of her cave. But instead, she stood tall, put on that brave face, and did what she thought was right. Since she was younger, she thought everyone had to be like that; Happy, no matter where you ended up, or how you ended up. So seeing Eli so broken down like this was a little uncomfortable and a bit scared. She didn't try to show it, of course, but that was how she was feeling deep inside. "Really? I mean, its not too late to go back to your dreams and goals. Its just something...you gotta set your mind to if you want it that badly...Just....just put on that brave face, and go for it. That's what my dad told me anyway, right before he passed." she explained to him, starting to feel the sensitiveness come back to her eyes at the thought of her dad, but quickly hid those emotions away back in her heart. At least until she was completely alone in her room or at church again. After all, those words that Anne's father spoke to her was something Anne hardly ever told anyone else. They would have to be someone special for Anne to spill those words out.

Eli remained quiet as she spoke, his eyes focused on the table in front of his. His jaw clenched, almost painfully, with his effort not to let the things he was feeling be shown. His resolve was like a damn, once the cracks and fissures gave way, there was no holding it all back. It would have been very embarrassing for him to break down in the middle of a coffee shop. He took in her words though, fighting to keep that wall he fought so hard to build down. He glanced at her for a second before looking down at the table again. She was right, he couldn't just give up the things he once lived for. Eli appreciated her sharing that wisdom with him, he figured it must have been hard for her. "You're right." He said simply, a forced smile on his face. Eli looked at her again. "It's just hard, you know? I'm not really that person anymore." He struggled with his words. "I guess I don't know what I want anymore."

After Anne was finished speaking, she noticed Eli's face then. How he couldn't manage to look at her eye to eye, she could tell his jaw was clenched now too, as if he were to be holding back tears. Anne wasn't exactly used to this kind of emotion from another person, so she didn't exactly know what to do, until after he replied back to her. It was sort of awkward for her, really. She nodded when he said she was right, though. Not to sound narcissistic or anything, but she had already known she was right. "Really?" her frown deepened then when he finished his last sentence. "I mean, I know its hard. Believe me, I know. But...what was it that you wanted before all this happened? Just curious..."

Eli gave a wistful smile, before his whole life was uprooted and torn at the seams, he was involved in sports. Before everything he thought he knew about life was changed, he was a team player, and a very good one at that. He had played sports all of his life, but he didn't know if he could do the whole team thing again. "I used to play sports." Eli told her, shrugging. "Like, every sport. All year, every season. Baseball, Hockey, Soccer, you name it. Baseball and Hockey were my favorites though." Eli looked down, he used to be proud of his accomplishments, but after what happened... They were on their way home from a game on the night of the accident, and Eli never forgave himself for what happened.
