"Alright, alright, I promise to introduce you to Chelsea. The skin around my eye is still slightly yellow from the healing bruise she inflicted on me." He shook his head and glanced at her. "Yeah, pretty close, close enough that she can physically abuse me and I won't hold it against her. That's not a problem is it?" He didn't think she would, but again, he didn't know her so he could be wrong. "Alright Izzy. What should we talk about?"

Izzy glanced at Garret and laughed; she had never known Aya to be such a violent person but it had been years since she had seen the girl and people changed. She still loved her cousin though. "No of course not." She said with a tiny laugh. She too had the habit of chasing around people with baseball bats or anything remotely violent looking, especially her older brother who had the habit of teasing her till her patience broke. She crossed her arms over her chest and shrugged ,smiling a bit. "I dunno Garret; why did you bother with this? I mean... I guess I'm glad but I don't see you as the type of person to be forced into anything, even with someone as crazy as Aya pushing you into it."

Garret made a disgusted face and then let it go back into an uninterested expression. "I guess because you're beautiful and I'm desperate." He shifted his eyes toward her and then back to the road as he turned on to her street. "Maybe because I like Aya and she's not interested." He probably could have omitted that detail, but what was the point. "So which one of these lovely seaside cottages is yours?" He didn't really think of them as cottages, but that wasn't the point.

She scoffed. "You? Desperate? Puh-lease." Izzy didn't say anything about her being beautiful though; years of teasing made her self-esteem pretty low so when people actually did compliment her sincerely, she had a hard time believing it. Izzy turned to Garret in surprise when he confessed that he liked Aya and said nothing, a bit confused. So she was just the second option? For some reason, even if it was just a set up date, she felt extremely offended but bit her lip and said nothing about it. Doll pointed to the house 3 doors away from the Tays'. "Just there, please. I won't be long." She got out of his car as soon as he stopped outside her house and she opened the door, leaning against it and sighing as she felt frustration flow inside of her. Doll sighed and took a deep breath as she climbed the stairs and made her way to her room, shedding the girly clothes they had forced her in for a pair of dark skinny jeans and a dark blue shirt. She grabbed her cream colored hoodie and her purse before running down the stairs and outside the house back into his car. Izzy glanced at him as she tucked a stray curl behind her ear. "Sorry, was I long?"

Garret could feel the white elephant squeeze in between them after his last comment and though she spoke to him in an even, seemingly unaffected tone, he felt bad. He was going to go pick up the food and come back, but she'd offhandedly asked him to wait so he did. She wasn't gone long at all, but the entire time she was gone, the bad feeling inside of him grew. He'd said the wrong thing as usual and now he'd have to come up with a clever way to make it up to her. Unfortunately, he was fresh out of good clever ideas. "Not at all." He said as she got back in. "You sure you didn't have that on under your clothes?" He started the engine again and pulled away from her house toward Palmers. "Did I mention I'm an ass?" He asked. "Or perhaps maybe Aya told you I put my foot in my mouth more often than not."

Doll couldn't help but smile a bit at that and shook her head. "Nope, I swear I didn't have this underneath." She absently put on her seatbelt and settled in for the awkward silence between them and smiled a bit more when he admitted he was an ass. "Well yeah, she did kinda mention that." Izzy bit her bottom lip a bit as she turned to affix her gaze on him, her large gray eyes skimming across his handsome features before she laughed just a bit. "And yeah, you kinda were being an ass." She turned to face the front once again, consciously folding her arms across her chest. "You know, you don't have to go on this date with me, even if it's for Aya. I'll tell her we tried and it didn't work out." Both of them were seemingly forced and with the fact out in the open that he didn't even like her but he liked her cousin, it seemed like there was no point in them even trying anyway.

Garret stopped at a four way stop and shook his head. "No, I want to go, I didn't want to when I was first getting out of bed an hour ago, but I'm interested." He turned to look at her. "I know what I said about Aya sounds bad and makes it seem like I'm not interested in anyone else...but that girl is complicated, what with Monte and Dan hanging around, she has no room in her pretty little heart for me other than a friend. I understand that, I know there isn't a chance there, even if Monte and Dan disappear. I wasn't really thinking when I said it, but it's out in the open, you know about it. Maybe nothing will happen here, between you and me, but say it does, say we get rid of this awkwardness and you realize that you aren't a second choice to Aya, then..." He stopped, he had no idea where he was going with this and laughed at himself. "I'm going to insert my foot into my mouth and stop talking now. If you think all of this is a bad idea, then please tell me. I'll drop you off at home and wait for the next girl, who will undoubtedly read into everything I say and then wind up in the same damn single position I'm always in."

Doll fell silent and listened to his blubbering and when he finally did stop, her smile widened and she burst out laughing. "I never thought you'd be the type of guy to end up blubbering." She smiled at him brightly and shook her head in amusement. "You know where I'd really like to go? Palmer's... For cheeseburgers and fries and milkshakes and maybe a not so awkward conversation with you. You down for that?" Doll shook her head and chuckled softly again; she hadn't expected Garret to act the way he did and she knew assumptions and prejudices were a bad thing but she still had set him up as a cocky jock in her head. And it was with delight to find out that she was wrong.

Although he'd been laughing at himself, it kind of bugged him that Izzy was laughing at him now and even more bugged that she was calling out the things he hated the most about himself. He didn't look at her when she finished and simply kept driving on to Palmer's, where he didn't expect the conversation to go anywhere except in the awkward zone. "I'm down." He kept quiet and was half convinced this was still a bad idea and would fail completely.
He pulled into the diner's parking lot and put the car into park, but didn't get out immediately. He jumped when something tapped on his window and he turned to see Chelsea standing there with a big grin on her face. She opened the door and poked Garret, about to explode into excited conversation when she spotted Izzy. "Oh, hi, sorry Chelsea Palmer, friend of Garrets, you didn't tell me you were going on a date Garret." She pinched his arm and whispered the end of her sentence.
"Chelsea, this is Izzy, Izzy, my friend Chelsea, she's Abby's sister." Chelsea pounced on the balls of her feet. "Are you going in? I'll be inside shortly, I'd be happy to serve you, or if you're not dining in, I'll get everything wrapped up for you..."

Doll shook her head once Garret fell silent; it seemed that even if they had planned to keep things non-awkward between them, it was still falling into the awkward zone and she was pretty much ready to give up when Chelsea Palmer tapped on Garret's window. She waved cheerfully at Chelsea. "Nice to meet you; my family and I love this place...", she laughed a bit as she remembered Jackie's enthusiastic raving about their milkshakes. She gestured to Garret with her thumb and shrugged. "I guess it depends on where this guy wants to go." She loudly whispered to Chelsea. "But if you ask me, he's being a big spoilsport right about now so..." Izzy shrugged. She wanted to bitch at Garret but she wouldn't since Chelsea was around. She had asked if he wanted to just bring her home and he had said no, and yet here he was sulking and making the date even more awkward that it had to be.

Chelsea waved back and then pinched Garret. "Stop being a spoilsport and show this girl a good time, like we both know you can." She reached into the car and pulled the keys out of the ignition. "Come on, a burger and a milkshake will knock this crap out of you." She jingled the keys in front of him and then turned to Izzy. "Come on Izzy, he'll follow like a lost puppy dog if you come on in." She gave Garret a look and started around to the other side to greet Izzy and escort her inside. Garret got out and followed, behind the two girls. "We're not staying Chelsea. I was going to grab something and take her somewhere." Chelsea looked over her shoulder and smiled. "And that's fine too, Garret, you just have to drop the crap attitude."

Izzy laughed and knew she liked Chelsea already. She followed Chelsea into the diner and sighed at the familiar warmth that most diners had in common. She turned to look at Chelsea and smiled. "Thanks for that. We only got forced to have this date so I guess I can understand why he's not too enthusiastic about being with me." Not like I'm the one he really wants anyway... She mentally smacked herself for the negative thought. "I have a cousin who loves this place; she actually says your shakes are like her drug. It's pretty funny; she comes here with her sort-of-boyfriend all the time but he's lactose intolerant so he always just gets a soda which irks her."

Chelsea lead Izzy to a stool at the far end of the bar and gave Garret another stern look. "I keep telling Abby she should just scratch everything off the menu except for the milkshakes, we'd still make money and she'd be less stressed." She joked. "She won't do it, she's married to the place." Garret took a seat next to Izzy and picked up a menu, though he already knew Chelsea already knew what he was going to order. He passed it to Izzy. "Grady and I were going to get her a wedding band and a big cheesy wedding ring to display somewhere in the diner, but we've never got around to it." He was warming up.
Chelsea tapped the menu. "You let me know what you want and I'll have it wrapped up to go with a big serving of enthusiasm for Garret." She disappeared into the kitchen for a second to retrieve her apron. "I was only forced out of bed and to the museum, it was my choice to approach you. I'm enthusiastic about being with you, not enthusiastic about the way you've taken the news that I had a crush on your cousin. I got it out in the open, you know about it, wouldn't you rather me tell you, then you find out about it from someone else and feel betrayed?" He dropped his head to the counter and took a deep breath. "Is your self esteem so low that you'd think your cousin would hurt you by doing something with me? I mean damn we're not even past the first date and you already have trust issues. I'm not judging, I might even be sticking my foot in my mouth again, but I want to get some food and take you somewhere."

Doll laughed with Chelsea. "I'm pretty sure you'd still make a lot of money, serving milkshakes alone. I'm pretty sure my cousin, Jackie, spends most of her money on this place and all for the milkshakes." She glanced at Garret and smiled; she had heard of Grady but had never had the pleasure of meeting Garret's little brother. She gestured to him with her thumb and grinned. "I'll get whatever he's getting."
Izzy turned to face Garret, putting her chin against the palm of her hand as she listened to his rant. She smirked a bit. "This coming from the guy who didn't like me laughing at him when he started blubbering. That's rich." She didn't mean to be mean or even rude, but he really was asking for it when the entire ride to the diner, he had been negative and extremely quiet--in the awkward way. "Besides, I know Aya and she'd never do that to me; I just didn't expect you to say it so suddenly as if you had no regard for what I must have felt if you said it." She shrugged as if it didn't mean anything; it had hurt her feelings a bit but she had experienced more than that. Isabelle smiled lightly at his side comment, surprised that he had hit the nail on the head. "Maybe... Just maybe." And she left it at that.

"There you go, you said it yourself Aya wouldn't hurt you so why'd you get all defensive?" He didn't understand why every girl he fell for had to be so strong headed. "I honestly don't get why you got so upset about my confession, its not like you give a shit, you didn't want to go on this date either. And I'm not the only one who disregarded how the other would feel. You bolted at the museum, how do you think that made me feel?" He folded his arms across his chest. "As far as I'm concerned we're even."
Chelsea returned with two bags, one big one small and two milkshakes. "Two cheeseburgers, two curly fries, two onion rings, and two slices of strawberry cheesecake." She passed the big bag to Garret and held up the small bag. "Ketchup, mustard, mayo, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, hot sauce, a side of pickles, salt, and pepper. Need anything else, Garret?" She slid the milkshakes on the counter and held up a finger. She went back into the kitchen and came back with two scribbled note on a order form. "One side of enthusiasm..." Under enthusiasm she wrote or else. And on the second form... "An extra order of be nice" Garret laughed, paid Chelsea and slid the second order form to Izzy. "This one is for you." He laughed picked up both bags and his milkshake and motioned for her to lead the way. "He's a good guy, Izzy, just takes some getting used to. Have fun, beat the crap out of him if he's too awful."
