JuLong stretched as he wandered through the wooded forest. 这里的森林是来自中国的不同 (The forests here are so different from the ones in China)... He thought to himself. He laid out on a rock, getting some sun spots out of the trees above. "与自然,似乎很容易忘记....这一点。(And nature seems to make it easier to forget about.... that.)" He muttered to himself, talking about his recent quitting of cocaine cold turkey. He knew he'd eventually have to apologize to his family for his actions recently (especially his baby sister, who he lashed out at only yesterday), but he was feeling pretty good today, and the beautiful weather and nature really upped his mood.
He stretched again once comfortable on the rock, letting his legs dangle off it lazily. He pulled out his phone and just stared at it, almost a little sad he wouldn't really have the chance to make any friends until college started up in the fall. For now, he only had his family as people he could call. "如何跛脚 (How lame)..." He thought to himself, putting his phone back in his pocket. He'd have to remember this place, it was nice and peaceful. And as long as he left before it got dark, he had a feeling he wouldn't encounter anyone who would give him a hit. He nodded to himself, and felt his eye twitch as he smiled. He could do this. Restart. He reminded himself, holding a hand over his still-healing tattoo.

Since Tillie was already in college, summer had already started for her. She's already been hanging around her family for a while now, but every now and then she enjoyed being on her own. She was just a loner like that. A perfect day in the forest was in order for her. She kept her sketchbook close in her arms until she spotted a tree in good shape for climbing. She slid her pencil behind her ear and gritted her sketchbook in between her teeth and climbed a good height of the tree before getting comfortable on a sturdy branch.
A few minutes passed by, possibly fifteen, and Tillie had finished more doodles than drawings in her book. Then she heard a voice nearby. She perked her head up, leaning slightly to take a glimpse of what was a boy, probably around her age by the looks of it. She saw him take a seat on a rock just below her, and then just her luck, her pencil slid between her hand and sketchbook, falling just in front of the boy sitting. She clasped her hand to her mouth instantly, gasping loudly, afraid it would of hit him. So much for having a quiet time alone.

JuLong heard something drop right next to him, and he was jerked out of his daydreaming. He rolled over on the rock and noticed a pencil situated in a grove in the rock. "你好小失去了铅笔。 (Hello little lost pencil.)" He murmured, looking to the tree trunk. "有没有这样的东西作为一个铅笔树,所以你从哪里来?(There's no such thing as a pencil tree, so where did you come from?)" He asked the pencil. He leaned onto his elbows and looked up, noticing a girl in among the branches. "Ayo wassup girl?" He asked her with a smile, his deep voice betraying his cute face.

Tillie tilted her head to the side slightly at the boy's reaction to the pencil. Wonder where he's from? "Oh. I'm so sorry. I hope that pencil didn't hit you. It sort of just....slipped out of my hands. Sorry." she apologized in her sweet and cute tone of hers. "Um...you do speak English, right? I mean I can speak some French, but I don't think that's the language you were just speaking..." Tillie continued to ramble. Why she did, she didn't know. After all, the boy probably didn't know a single word she was saying, and probably just thought she was some sort of freak or weirdo in a tree. She bit her lip while waiting for his answer, if there was one....

"I keen speak a li'le (I can speak a little)." He replied simply. He held up the pencil. "These yours (This is yours)?" He sat up, tilting his head to see her. "I am JuLong. Hi-ee." He told her, waving at her cutely.

From how soft he was speaking, and how poor his English was, Tillie barely got what he said to her. Up until he held up her pencil was when she understood. "Oh, yeah, that's mine." she said with a smile, waving back to him when he introduced himself. Ji--JiLong?" she stuttered, hoping she said it right. "Nice to meet you. I'm Tillie." she smiled cutely, also giving him a small wave. Finally seeing how this was getting awkward, Tillie placed her sketchbook back in between her teeth and carefully jumped back onto the ground, grabbing her sketchbook from her mouth before her pencil in JiLong's hand. "Thanks." she grinned.

"JuLong~" He told her, still smiling as he got off his rock. 好吧,也许它并没有放弃在这里,但她很漂亮,所以没关系。(Okay, so maybe it's not abandoned here, but she's pretty, so it's okay.) He thought to himself. "My Engrish is a li'l bad, Ai-im sorry. (My English is a little bad, I'm sorry.)" He told with a fluid bow. once he was standing up straight again, he tilted his head to the side, "Your name Tillie? eat is pretty (it is pretty). I like." He told her, as if confirming something.

"Julong." she repeated, a lot more clearly this time. "That's cool. What language do you speak anyway? It's interesting." she asked curiously, tilting her head to the side again cutely, as she held her sketchbook close to her in both arms. "And thanks." she blushed, when he said he liked her name. "Most people like it. I guess its unique. Which makes me all the more unique. Most people say I'm weird and strange....and sometimes a bit childish too." she shrugged.

"Mandarin." JuLong replied simply, giving a curt nod to accompany it. "Oh really? I am... 啊,这个词是什么?(Ah, what's the word?) also stran-gee. Everyone say so. I am also very much love fun. (fun-loving)" He told her. He twitched and made an apologetic face. "I can lissen to English better than speak. My words are not very good." He apologized again, biting his lip.

"Oh, that's interesting." she grinned, nodding. "Stran-gee? Oh, strange? And...love, fun?" she scrunched up her face continuously trying to understand him better. Finally after a short moment she got it. "Oh! Fun-loving! Yeah, I'm like that, too." she smiled cutely again. "I mean, at least you can understand what people are saying, and can follow a conversation, right? It's better than being totally confused all the time. Plus, its always a good thing when you can speak some English words. Better than not knowing anything at all." she babbled on again, not even realizing she was this time. Then again, its what she always did whenever she met someone new. She wasn't the shy type after all.

JuLong nodded in agreement. "But it get... frustrate... because.." He began, but then groaned, "我不能说什么,我想说,这是令人沮丧。只要给我的衣领UP有像,狗吓坏翻译。(I can't say what I want to say so it's frustrating. Just give me a freaking translating collar like that dog in UP had.)" He rambled, leaning against the rock he had been laying on previously. "I watch lots of American movie and drama, but it do not help with my speak, only listen." He told her, not meaning to vent, but suddenly all the stress, depression, anxiety... it was all coming back. He considered himself okay, because it was just side effects from recovery, and his mind was so involved in getting his English right getting drugs was practically the last thing on his mind, but he just took a couple deep breaths and gave her a smile. "I think having no American friend make learning hard."

Tillie furrowed her eyebrows when he groaned, and suddenly started speaking Mandarin again. "No, I get what you mean. It's frustrating to speak it. And easier to listen to it." she nodded when he said he watched many American films and shows. "Well, that certainly helps, a lot." she giggled. Then smiled even wider at his last comment. "Well, then I'll be your first American friend!" she exclaimed, probably a bit too loudly. But she couldn't help it. She was always this peppy when she got a new friend. "And by the time I'm through with you, you'll be speaking English like a pro! Just wait!" she squealed, sounding so optimistic about the whole thing. She just hoped it would rub off of her and onto him.

JuLong smiled at her widely. "Really?" He asked her, excited. "You promise? I wanna speak English real good! 承诺 (Promise)!" He told her, extending his hand to make a pinky promise. "Pr-oh-mi-ssee" He tried, attempting to portray that was what he had just said in Chinese.

Tillie giggled at his enthusiasm, and wrapped her pinky around his in response. "Promise." she repeated back to him, a little slower, so he'd be able to get it correctly. She let go of his pinky after a while then, and just smiled at him. "You should teach me your language too. I know some French already, but I wanna try to learn an Asian language too. It sounds fun to speak it." she added in cutely.

"Okay!" JuLong replied enthusiastically. "First! Hello. ni hao ma (knee how ma). It like... how are you? I think so." JuLong seemed to be rambling to himself as he taught her the simple phrase. He couldn't help but notice the lingering feeling of her touch, curious what it'd be like to hold her hand, but not having enough nerves to check at that moment. But he had plans, he'd get to find out soon enough.
