Monte stood beside Amaya and waited for Grady to choose, to his complete disbelief Grady chose his best friend over his brother, Atticus. Monte wondered if he should try and sway her in the direction of either Zane or Garret, both players were really good, but Garret would be a real stick in the mud if they started to lose, doubtful that they would if he and Garret were both on the same team. "Want some help sweetheart?" He whispered in her ear.

Amaya wasn't sure who to pick now. She was starting to go over it in her mind, ready to just pick someone random when Monte asked if she wanted help. She looked up at him, licking her lips and nodding. "Help would be nice." She murmured.

Monte surveyed the group, mainly Zane and Garret and weighed the benefits of each. "Choose Zane, he's pretty good, but the other team is going to need all the help they can get." He knew Garret getting chosen last would put a damper in his spirits too.

Amaya nodded and did as she was told, calling out Zane's name. She couldn't quite remember who was who, so she didn't point to anyone in case she pointed to the wrong person. She briefly wondered if the guy was any good, and then figured that Monte wouldn't have her pick someone who was bad at playing.

Garret made a face and then popped out of it as soon as he joined his brother on his side. "We bat first, since she picked first." Monte laughed. "Typical." He whispered in Amaya's ear. "What position do you like best?"

Amaya looked up at Monte, a slight frown on her face. "Uh..." She bit her lip, trying to remember from the very few times she'd played baseball which position she was best in. "I guess on one of the bases?" She was pretty good at catching a ball and she could throw pretty far. That, and she really didn't know what else she could do with her scarce knowledge of the game.

Monte laughed. "Alright then, take your pick." She'd be most useful on first, but if she wanted third he wouldn't complain, Zane or Collins could easily pick up the slack. He would pitch and no one else seemed to be bothered by his choice. When everyone was in position and Garret stepped up to bat, Monte pulled his arm back and threw a fast ball, which Garret hit toward Amaya.

Amaya walked her way to one of the bases, she wasn't quite sure which one it was, first or third, but it was the one to the left of the home plate. She glanced over at Monte, wondering if he held even the slightest bit of interest for her. Completely random thought for being in the middle of a baseball game sure, but that didn't stop her mind from wandering. Amaya was so engrossed with her thoughts, that she didn't notice the ball hurdling towards her, causing her to just barely catch it when it thumped against her chest, knocking the wind out of her. "Shit." She coughed, trying to catch her breath. She really had to remember to pay attention during games.

Monte watched the ball sail through the air and lifted his hand to cover his face as the ball looked like it was going to hit her in the face, it hit her in the chest instead and she still managed to catch it. He clapped his hand against his glove and shook his head. She'd managed to take Garret out, but would she be any good when the bases had other players sitting waiting for that one hit that would send them all home? She looked lost, but he guessed that was because she'd just had all the wind knocked out of her. "Great catch..." He called out to her, though really she was simply lucky. "Wanna toss it to me?"

Amaya, still trying to catch her breath, nodded and tossed the ball to Monte. She doubted she'd be able to catch something moving that fast to her again. Not that she'd caught the last one, considering it slammed right in the chest. Gotta pay more attention, and not day dream about hot guys.

"Thanks sweetheart." He said as the ball landed in the center of his glove. He turned from third base and waited for the next batter to step up. Monte managed to strike out Grady, but Mara hit the ball right down the center and made it to first base. Garret's strategy was obvious, save the weakest hitters for last. Atticus hit the ball basically straight into the air, making Monte run forward to get it. By the time he got to it, Atticus had touched first and was moving on to second, with Mara running for third. Monte tossed the ball there. "Heads up..." He called, hoping this would prevent another thump to the chest.

Amaya watched the game, more like watched Monte play the game, feeling oddly out of place. These people knew their game, and here she was not knowing a damn thing about it. Focus. Amaya still had a dull pain in her chest from when the ball had it her, but she still heard Monte call heads up, and caught the ball thrown to her. "Shit." She had no idea what she was supposed to do now, and hoped someone would tell her before she screwed something up.

Monte smiled, at least she could catch a ball, but her knowledge of the game was definitely limited to that and possibly hitting the ball. "Throw to second." He pointed to second base where Mara was retreating.

Amaya nodded at his instruction and threw the ball to where he pointed. She ran a hand through her hair, placing a hand on her hip. Amaya briefly wondered how long baseball games usually lasted, and if they played a normal game of baseball.

Monte was relieved the ball made it to second just in time to get Mara out and it was time to switch. "Amaya you wanna bat first?" He asked as the teams switched sides. He picked up a bat and swung it around in his hands, round and round, waiting for her answer.
