Kalani wandered around the mall in a slow laziness only acquired on a Hawaiian island. His hands in his pockets, he sighed as he looked at an ice cream shop across the way from him. He had been forced out of the house after spending almost twenty four hours playing Fable II ("But I almost beat the game! It would be a new record!" He had tried with his mother earlier), and he wasn't necessarily unhappy about it, but after not sleeping all night, the last thing he wanted to do was go out into public. He continued walking until a glorious smell wafted his way: coffee. He smiled and waltzed over to the coffee shop, happy to see only a small line even though the shop itself was a little crowded. "Iced Mocha with an extra shot of espresso." He asked the server, paying for his drink and waiting near the door, deciphering his next move. There's supposed to be a game stop somewhere in here... he thought to himself, determined to find it before leaving the mall. He frowned, yes, mother gave me money to bribe me to leave the house, but she probably didn't want me buying games... He shrugged, brushing some of his dyed-blonde hair out of his face before picking up his coffee and going leaning against the window where he had been before, no seats seeming to be available, not caring as he people-watched out the window.

Mia sighed softly as she shrugged on a black sweater she had stolen from her younger sister, Doll. She wanted to get out of the house and had been sorely tempted to stay locked up in the Tays' vast library but had decided to go to the mall instead. She wanted to buy a book that would have finished the current series she was following and she wanted to buy a few mechanical pencils. She was really the type of person to stay locked up in one room, sitting in one attitude for the entire day but she had promised herself that she would at least try to change and so here she was, unlocking her car, getting in and driving to the mall.
Once Mia arrived, she parked her car and bit back another sigh as she got out. The mall was filled with people and she was feeling unnaturally hermit-like. She zipped up the black sweater, halfway and absently locked the car doors with a push of a button before making her way to the entrance.
She browsed idly once she had found the bookstore, one hand slipped into the pocket of her blue skinny jeans as she scanned racks of books, searching for one specific title. Once Mia had found it, she smiled just a bit and got a pack of mechanical pencils before making her way to the register, paying for her purchases before heading out. She stopped outside the coffeeshop and bit her bottom lip as she tried to decide whether or not to just go home to read or stay a bit. She was tempted to buy a large green tea latte and she finally relented to her whims and entered the shop.
Mia frowned when she realized how crowded it was but since she had already decided, she ordered her drink and paid for it, getting the warm drink from the counter with a muttered thank you. Mia was relieved that there was still enough space for her to move around without sloshing her latte. She made her way to the bar near the window, accidentally bumping into someone who was peering out the window as she finally put her things on the bar. Mia turned around and blushed furiously. "I-I'm sorry, are you okay?"

Kalani was jolted from his daze as he got bumped in the shoulder, feeling his drink slosh a little, but the lid kept it from spilling. He looked at the person who had bumped into him, then blinked a couple times. "Yeah... I'm fine..." He said, then noticed she also had a drink in her hand. "Are you okay?" He asked, noting her drink didn't have a lid yet. He spun around, having noticed some extra lids place on the counter behind him. "Here," He offered, also handing her a copule napkins just in case.

Mia was muttering under her breath about her clumsiness when he came back with a lid and napkins for her. She smiled as she took the items from him. "Thanks..." She put her purchases on the bar as she affixed the lid to her cup, giving the hot liquid a taste and sighing in pleasure at the perfect mix of cream, sweetness and tea. Mia glanced at the guy she had bumped into and smiled a bit, not really sure what had overcome her when she suddenly said. "Hey, I'm Mia." She offered him her free hand to shake.

Kalani smiled, worried it was about to get really awkward if they both remained at the bar, then relieved as she introduced herself. "I'm Kalani. People call me Kai though." He replied, shaking her hand.

Mia grinned as she shook his hand firmly. "Wow, Kalani? That's an interesting name; definitely not something you hear everyday." She laughed softly. "I have a cousin named Kai... It came from Mikhael though, not Kalani. Oh sorry I'm rambling; it's nice to meet you Kai." Mia flushed as she let go of his hand and smiled shyly at him. "Sorry about your drink by the way; it was really cramped in here just a while ago."

Kalani smiled, "It's Hawaiian." He explained, his smile not leaving. "I don't even know how I got it, considering I don't have 'Kai' anywhere in my name..." He looked to his drink, "Don't worry, it didn't spill." He told her.

Mia nodded, intrigued by his name. "Does it mean anything in Hawaiian?" She grinned a bit cheekily. "Don't worry, my cousin doesn't have Kai anywhere in his name either." Well, unless you counted the strange "khai" Russian sound in the middle of his name. Amelia ran her fingers through her fringe before taking another sip of her drink, feeling just a bit awkward since she was at a loss for words in their conversation. She glanced back at him and bit her bottom lip. "So..."

"Uh, yeah actually. It means 'the heavens'." Kalani replied with a smile. He noticed the decline in conversation and hesitated a little before asking, "So... I'm pretty new here... And pretty lost... Would you mind showing me around?" He asked.

Mia grinned. "Wow. At least it means something cool; I don't think Amelia even really means anything significant like that." She took another sip of her latte and nodded. "Oh sure; I'm not sure I could be of much help to you though since I'm pretty new here myself." She laughed softly as she grabbed her purchases and made her way out the shop. "Is there a specific place you want to go to? If it's in the mall, I won't be of much help to you but I can help you find wherever you want to go... Or at least try anyway."

Kalani thought a moment, "Well... I'm not really much of an outdoorsy person, or... getting out type of person." He laughed nervously. "Any place you can suggest?" He asked, then with a smile added in a playfully challenge, "I'm probably newer than you, considering I got off the plane about two weeks ago."

Mia laughed and nodded before she drank and finished her latte, throwing it into a nearby garbage can. "So back home, where did you like to hang out? Maybe that can help us decide where we should go next." She smiled at him and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear before sliding her free hand into the back pocket of her jeans. She chuckled softly at him and nodded before meeting his gaze. "Alright, I get it. You're newer in town than I am by a week." Though it didn't really matter since she had been too busy to really get to know the town. She had been in charge of getting all of them enrolled into the proper classes and buying and moving into their new house had taken more than a week of effort.

Kalani laughed, "Back home, there's nothing to do." He thought a moment, "I went to the beach a lot," he added as an after thought, looking at his naturally tanned skin. Only he knew it was actually usually darker than it was now. "But other than going to the beach, there's not much to do on an island when you have free time." He told her with a laugh. "I was gonna go to game stop, but that's not much in the way of anything my mother wanted me to do." He added. He looked at his coffee, taking a sip before finishing, "Sorry I'm not very helpful..."

Mia sighed wistfully; though she wasn't a very outdoorsy person herself, she did like the beach. There were plenty of beaches back home and though she didn't often go to them, her house was right by one so she always had the greatest view. It was probably one of the reasons why she didn't fight Apollo when he suggested they live at Seaview. She laughed at him and shook her head. "It's cool; why don't we just walk around the mall and see where it takes us?" She turned on her heel and started walking slowly in the opposite direction. "So Kai, why'd you move from Hawaii to such a quaint town like Riverside?"

Kalani nodded, liking the idea of just walking around. He smiled, following slightly behind her. "Well, put simply, I was adopted." He said simply, a shrug signifying he didn't mind talking about it.
