"Um... yes. I will... But I'm bery... 아니 (no), very n-nerbousu..." He laughed at his mistakes, "Because my English very bad..." He told her honestly. "omma... 아이구 (oh my gosh), mom say there is something call ESL class I will go into."

Anne listened closely to what he was saying, as she couldn't help but giggle at most of his mistakes he made along the way. "So, you're nervous about starting this new school, and your mom said you'll be taking this ESL class too. Um..I'm guessing this ESL class will help you along with your English, am I right?" she repeated back to him, making sure she was following what he was saying. "That's cool though. What grade are you in? twelfth?"

"Um... I will be third year. I think here it call juny-or." Kan explained, still getting a little confused. "In Korea, only three years high school. So here it is a little confusing..."

"Oh, you're a junior? Cool, we're in the same grade, then." she grinned wider, excited to know she'll actually know a few more people in her grade, particularly a cool guy friend to hang around with. "So, wait..Korea high school's only have three years to them?" she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "That's...odd. Here, we have four years, but...three?" she repeated, mostly trying to get it straight to herself. "Huh, that's weird..what else does Korea have that America doesn't?" she asked, her facial expression completely changing from confusion to curiosity.

Kan nodded, then thought a moment. "hmm.. in Korea, school is six year elementary, three year middle, three year high school." He explained. "Also, cafe very different... two story, not just buy drink and leave. Can sit for many hour." He sighed, "Maybe this be easier when I can English better..."

Anne listened as intensively as possible. Fortunately for her, she understood what Kan was trying to explain. "Oh, no, I get what you're trying to say. That is different though. Weird...but, different." she added in with a chuckle. "I've always known elementary schools to be five years, and high schools be four years. Though it does seem like our middle school years are the same at three years. And as for the cafe there, damn. I wish we had a cafe that huge! All the ones I've been in are puny!" he laughed, just imagining the coffee shop in Korea, her face already looking amazed just thinking about it. "So, do they have like, two counters to order from, one on one floor and another on the other floor? Er, what exactly do they have that makes it so huge?"

Kan smiled, glad he was able to get his point across and also glad they had finally gotten a conversation going. "Well... many coffee shop just one counter. But some place, like Baskin Robbins, have two story and second story have menu and waiter." He explained. With a laugh, he added, "a Chinese friend once say in Korea, you can eat all day. And one day, we did." He laughed at the memory. "We meet for breakfast, then we have coffee and talk for few hours, then we have lunch, then after lunch ice cream and talk for few hours, then dinner. After that we went to noraebang-ah, karaoke, it is call here?" He added as an after-thought, tilting his head to the side curiously.

Listening closely to everything Kan was saying, Anne nodded and smiled, as if he was being crystal clear with everything. Her eyes nearly busted out of her skull when he mentioned baskin robbins then. "Wait, Korea has a baskin robbins, too?! Best damn ice cream around." she grinned widely, adding another thing in just as excitedly, "Dude, I could totally live there if they let me. That sounds awesome." And then, soon enough, her smile turned upside down as soon as he mentioned karaoke. "Oh. Yeah, we have karaoke here. I'm not much into it, but I still enjoy watching people win and fail once they get on stage." she explained a bit more flatly than before in her peppy tone.

Kan nodded at the Baskin Robbins comment, agreeing whole-heartedly. His nodding stopped as she mentioned karaoke. "No, no, that American-style. Korean-style is private room, only friend see you. Much funner." He explained. He was about to say something else when his stomach interjected. "Ah, we talk of food and I get hungry." He said with a small laugh.

Anne stared rather blankly at his answer. "O-oh." she let out in a small stutter, biting her lip slightly. Even if it were in a private room with even one friend, Anne still wouldn't be able to deal with someone watching her sing. She already got the courage a few weeks ago here to sing the YMCA at the Open Mic Night here; and she was in a rather large group too! That was enough for her. Much happier now that the subject was changed, Anne let out a small giggle. "Now that you mention it, I am getting pretty hungry too. Come on, lets hit the food court." she said, nodding her head, motioning for Kan to follow.

Kan followed slightly behind her as if he was a young child, his eyes wide as he looked around at everything around him, "So what food court is like in America?" He asked Anne.

Anne led Kan towards the food court, taking a quick glance behind her to see how he was keeping up, and couldn't help but let out a light giggle. He really was clueless in this country. Turning around at his next question, walking backwards now so she could face him behind her, she let out a smile before answering. "Well, from what you were talking about before with the cafe, I'm gonna say a lot smaller than the ones in Korea." she chuckled, a bit of teasing leaving her voice as well. "Its good food though, I think you'll really enjoy it." she smiled again, returning forward again, mostly to hide her expression on her face, looking very cute now. Something she never showed to anyone. Then finally, they arrived at the food court. She stopped in her steps, turning back around to see the look on Kan's face when she said, "Well, this is it. What do you think? Besides, not very big compared to your cafe." she laughed at the last part.

Kan looked around, examining the area before he spoke. "It very similar, but in Korea, there usually number board so you know when food ready." He explained, then tilted his head again, "How do you know when food ready?" Then he spotted something, and he pointed to a Mexican place, "Ah! A friend say in Korea, no real Mexican food. What should I try?"

Anne looked around where he did, furrowing her brows at first confused at when he said number board. Then she realized what he was talking about. "Oh, well usually they put numbers on our receipt, and when our food is ready they'll call out our number." she tried explaining to him. She could tell by just the look on his face that he was just as confused as she would be if she suddenly was transported to Korea to live at. Giving a light laugh when he pointed to the Mexican place, she nodded her head lightly replying back, "Well, of course that's not realMexican food. All the food here is unfortunately Americanized." she told him, exaggerating on the negative word. Returning back to her grin though, she looked around the food court, finally eying on the Chinese food place she had been eager to try out for a while now. "How about some Chinese food?"

Kan looked at the Mexican food place with furrowed eyebrows, "Oh... of course..." He raised an eyebrow and looked at her, "Chinese food?" He asked, tilting his head, then smiling. "Okay! That probably also different." He said, excited to try "American Chinese" food.
