Collins pushed the door to Mud and Grinds open with every intent of meeting this Bo Grey her friend, Chelsea, was bragging about. Collins was not very pleased with either of them rushing into a relationship with a guy you just met was foolish. Sure the way they met was one of those move classic cute meets, but still. She had every intention of telling this guy off and wanted to threaten him into taking good care of her best friend or risk being pulverized.
Of course the only people behind the counter of the coffee shop were girls, one named Holly who informed Collins that Bo had the day off. Holly gave Collins an odd look and with a little hesitancy Collins ordered a caramel macchiato with a double shot of express and took a seat in the exact same seat where Chelsea had found the notebook. She sipped her drink and looked around the room, partially wishing she too would find a notebook from some random guy with an ambition to find true love. She glanced around her immediate surroundings, cursing herself all the while for being so hypocritical. She ducked her head beneath the table just double checking that there wasn't something she missed.

Nicholas Alexandre Burkeheart had been wandering the town for the past hour. He wasn't sure why he did it actually, it seemed a bit stupid now that he was cold and tired for no reason. When he saw the welcoming sign of Mud and Grinds Coffee Shop he sighed in relief. One coffee and then I'll head home... Or maybe two. Or three. He had to grin at himself for that; he was still as addicted to coffee as he was back home, at least things didn't change that much.
He crossed the street to the coffee shop and walked in, sighing in pleasure as the tantalizing aroma of coffee beans tickled his senses. He unzipped the black leather jacket he had been wearing before walking over to the counter and ordering a cafe latte with an extra shot of espresso and a slice of cookie dough cheesecake. Xander sat down after paying for his order at a booth near the back. As soon as he slid into the seat, the boy grabbed his iPod from one of his pockets and put his earphones on, scrolling the vast list of songs for The Lengths by the The Black Keys. Tapping his fingers to the beat, he leaned back in his seat, waiting for his coffee. He looked around the cafe and smiled, mentally approving of the ambiance until his a girl across from him caught his attention. Her head was under the table and he wasn't sure why but a brief chuckle escaped his lips as he continued to watch her.

Collins panicked, she could see him and hear him laughing at her. She bumped her head on the way up and then laughed at herself. "I suppose I could have looked more of fool just now huh?" She rubbed the spot on her head where she'd slammed it into the bottom of the table and without the slightest bit of hesitation, she gave him a good look over. He was definitely adorable. "So..." She felt even more stupid when she saw the headphones in his ears. She laughed at herself and looked away. She opened her purse and pulled out a small notebook and began to scribble a furious letter to her best friend, to curse her for having all the luck.

Xander winced when she bumped her head on the table. It was probably serendipitous that he was the type of person to only listen to music at a quarter of the maximum volume his iPod offered. He wanted his hearing for more than just half of his life, thank you very much. He smiled a bit shyly at her. "Are you alright? That looked like it hurt a bit." He found himself giving her a once over; Xander liked her bright hair... It was like her, quirky and unique. He shook his head, it wasn't like he even knew the girl.
She looked away and the awkward moment between them disappeared as someone served him his cheesecake and coffee. He politely thanked the waitress with another one of his shy smiles before setting the coffee in front of him, looking at the mug with a shiny smile. If anyone was obsessed with coffee, it was Xander Burkeheart. He took a bite of his cheesecake and sipped at the unsweetened coffee, sighing in pleasure. The boy took the opportunity to glance at the girl with the fiery hair, she seemed to be writing a very angry note to someone. He couldn't help the tiny smile that began to form on his face. She's cute.

Collins glanced up from her furious writing to get another look at the gorgeous guy she's already managed to make a fool of herself in front of. She noticed the smile on his lips and wiped any trace she might have had of a smile off her face. She was not amused and was not by any means used to having people laugh at her. She got up, shoved her notebook into her purse and picked up her coffee. She walked right over to his table and set her coffee down next to his. "I just wanted to tell you..." She stopped and pulled the headphone out of his ear, because she didn't know he didn't have it on full blast. "I just wanted to tell you that I don't usually act like a complete idiot when I go out in public." She sighed, picked up her coffee and with a brief look at him started toward the front of the cafe.

Xander bent his head to take a sip of his coffee and sighed as the milky concoction warmed up his entire being. He wasn't so sure why coffee made him so happy but that was probably the only way to bribe him into doing anything. It was his weakness and his addiction. He took a bite of the crumbly cheesecake before looking up, chewing slowly.
The next thing he knew, the girl was in his booth and reaching out to pull the earphone out from his ears. He blinked, blue eyes sparkling in confusion and embarrassment. "Err..." She spoke to him... A sentence at most, and then picked up her coffee and moved away. It took him a second to process the entire scene in his head before deciding to chase after her. He stood up suddenly and called out, before remembering he hated talking to strangers. "Wait! I wasn't laughing at you!"

Collins stopped dead in her tracks, red consuming her entire face and neck. "Oh, my god." She turned and shook her head at him. "I'm so sorry." She continued to shake her head as if telling the moment no. "I am terminally embarrassed now. My friend Chelsea..." She closed her mouth abruptly and shook her head again, turning back around, she was just embarrassing herself further. This perfect stranger didn't want to know about her best friends fortunate ability to find an adorably creative guy or that she'd come here with partial hopes of telling the guy off and partial hopes of finding some good luck herself.

Xander blushed, only then realizing they were causing a bit of a scene. Heat crawled its way up his neck and he shook his head, wanting to sit down and start minding his own business again but he couldn't seem to just let the girl suffer her own embarrassment by herself. He wanted to save her. God Xander, what is up with you today? She was blabbering, and when she had realized she was doing so, she turned back around, ready to leave or sit down quietly but some crazy part of Xander wanted her to stay and so he took a deep breath and gathered up every morsel of courage he had. "D-do you want to sit with me?"

Collins looked at the floor and turned. "I would like that." She turned, her face still bright red, glanced around the room full of people and with her head bent toward the floor walked toward his table. "I was serious when I said I don't usually make myself look like an idiot in front of people in public. I'm just not helping my case very much today." She placed her purse on the floor and her cup of coffee on the table and sat down across from where he was sitting.

Xander followed her back to his booth, sliding into his seat before taking a sip of his coffee. He wasn't sure what had come over him to risk even more public humiliation to invite this girl to sit with him but he was quite happy that she had said yes. "I'm not sure people actually make efforts to look like idiots in public... So you're safe." He gave her a shy smile as he reached for his iPod and put it back in his pocket. "I'm Xander, by the way."

Collins blushed. Of course people didn't make solid efforts to make themselves look like idiots, but she usually tried her hardest not to accidentally look like one either. It just so happened that the harder she tried to remain normal around hot guys the crazier she wound up looking. "I'm Collins." She picked up her coffee and took a long sip, relieved that she might be on track to impress him instead of make him laugh. "Well, Jordan Collins, but at one point there were so many Jordan's, my friend's just started calling me Collins, my best friend Chelsea is in love with that movie and she's completely tickled to death that my nickname is Collins." She rolled her eyes. "So is Xander a nickname?"

Xander took a last bite of his cheesecake and glanced at his companion, giving her another one of his shy smiles. "It's nice to meet you Collins. And yes, Xander's a nickname. I have a twin sister and we have similar names so, they elected to give me the stranger sounding nickname. Her name's Alexandra Nicole so they called her Alex. My full name's Nicholas Alexandre... So that's where the Xander came from." He shrugged as he finished his coffee, looking a bit disappointed as he swirled the dregs of coffee around the large mug. "What movie is that?"

Whoops, I rewrote it and forgot to add the movie title.
"Oh." Wow, Collins, you're certainly doing a great job at improving his impression of you. "The Blind Side, you know the one about Michael Oher." She shrugged. "Did I not say that?" She finished her coffee. "I like your name. Nicholas Alexandre." She played with her empty cup. "You alright?" She asked as she watched him swirl the cup around once he was finished.

Lol. S'okay.
He smiled at her and nodded. "Yeah I know that movie. My little sister Jackie loves that movie. I've watched it with her a couple of times." Xander shook his head at her question. "Nah, you didn't. It's okay though." A tiny flush began to creep up his neck. "Thanks... I don't like it that much; it's too long. It's a pain during tests because I have to write my entire name and sometimes it doesn't fit." He shook his head; he liked her name a lot better. It was short and straight to the point, kind of like the girl who the name belonged to. Xander glanced at his empty coffee cup. "Yeah I'm okay; just have a ridiculous obsession with coffee. Just a little sad that it's all gone.", he chuckled at himself, knowing he sounded more than a bit silly.

"I'd take it as a challenge to make it fit, but I get you." She set her cup down and stopped playing with it. "Some of the spaces on the tests have these tiny little lines and even my name doesn't fit sometimes." She shrugged. "But you know, I don't usually write my full name, it just seems pointless to write out Jordan Olive Collins, when Collins will suffice." She shrugged. "Of course there aren't any other Collins in this town or in the school, so I'm safe." She leaned back in the booth, feeling a bit more comfortable. "So you have two sisters? Any other siblings? Oh, and are you one of the refugee families?" It didn't matter to her, she just couldn't remember seeing him around town before.
