Kai grinned at that. “I’m glad then; we kinda have a lot to catch up on, you know?” He was relieved that Donia wanted to see him again and not just for directions.
Mikhael’s eyes closed as he felt Donia reciprocate. He couldn’t remember any moment where he had been happier; he would have stayed like that until he suffocated but Donia pulled away and he blushed, a tiny lopsided grin of pleasure curving his full kiss-bruised lips. He lightly covered her hand on his shoulder with one of her own. “Y-yeah… Library.” The boy pulled away very reluctantly, the smile still full on his mouth as he opened the door for her. “Well then, my lady?” He gestured inside the new car, chuckling softly as he shut the door on her, jogging back to the driver’s seat. He opened the door and climbed in, turning the ignition on and backing out of parking lot. He glanced at Donia as he put on his seatbelt and smiled. “I’m a little sad that the drive is short, I kinda wanted a bit more time with you.”

"Yeah, I guess we do."
Donia rolled her eyes when Kai called her "my lady," but didn't say anything. It was old fashioned, and would be annoying if he kept it up, but he could deal with the term and him opening doors occasionally. She kept an expression-free face until Mikhael started around the car, but then smiled decidedly. She was glad that he had also had a hard time finding his words when they pulled apart, and besides, that was a good kiss, and a good way to re-start their relationship. Donia put on her seatbelt as Mikhael slid into his seat, intrigued that he was reiterating what he'd said before about wanting to spend time with her today. Well, we should take what we get, I guess." She certainly wasn't complaining. They hadn't been around each other long, but so far, neither of them had screwed anything up. She hadn't let any doors close on him and he hadn't thrown her over his shoulder. And, in any case, she wouldn't mind being around both Lorelai and Kai for a few minutes. Her sister wasn't the type to make situations awkward.
Even if their time today was short, Donia intended to spend plenty of time with Mikhael in the coming days -- that is, if he was free. And she'd find a way to make every day count. Before they left the parking lot, Donia turned to him, lifting the camera she'd momentarily forgotten. "Smile, Mikhael," she said, getting just one shot to represent the last few moments they'd had.

Kai was driving slowly; it wasn't a bad thing because there were hardly any cars on the road but he was driving probably below the speed limit; he wasn't really paying attention. He was trying to figure out what would happen between them now, she let him kiss her right? ...Right? He turned his head when she called, a tiny lopsided grin on his handsome features just as she took the shot. He groaned and laughed at the same time. "I guess things don't really change after all huh? By the way, what are you taking at the University? I'm actually taking up a major in music, not that that should really surprise anyone right?"

Donia didn't mind that they were driving slowly, because they weren't really on the late side or anything, but she did find it odd. She was used to other people driving five or ten miles above the speed limit. She grinned as she lowered her camera from taking his picture, because she'd gotten what she wanted, and laughed at his comment. "No, Mikhael, things never really change," she said. They'd had a brief intermission, and maybe they'd have some more, but sooner or later, Donia was always called to pull that lens up to her eye to capture a clearer memory than her brain could. Donia hadn't changed so dramatically as to alter that. Things have changed, though, she thought to herself. She hoped that, in this case, it was only the passing of time, only their resolve to spend more time with each other now.
Donia laughed softly. "No, that doesn't surprise me. I'm glad you're studying something you love. I'm taking photography, of course. I started it as a major last semester, and I'm planning to minor in business. I signed up for one psychology course, as well, so hopefully that will be interesting." Donia pulled down the mirror in front of her seat, just checking to see if her hair was obviously messed up; anything else, she could just ignore.

“You know, you never really send me copies of your work… Even if I’m the subject; that’s changed now right?” He said a bit hopefully; it wasn’t that he wanted pictures of himself, god that sounded conceited, but he wanted copies of her work. Kai had a big feeling that she’d be a great photographer someday and he wanted to say in the future that he had known her even then, when her subjects were as unwilling as he used to be.
He turned to look at her during a red light, a smile on his handsome face. “Yeah, I’m glad that I took it and I’m really happy that you’re taking up photography. I knew, ever since I met you that you’d be great at it. And my minor’s Psychology so maybe we’ll see each other in the classes; hopefully.” Kai saw the library and fought the urge to heave a big sigh as he parked the car at the library’s vast parking lot. He turned off the engine, slipped out of his seat belt and went to open Donia’s door for her. “See what I mean by short? I was driving under the speed limit and we still got here in less than 10 minutes. Ridiculous!”

"Sorry, I think I did promise I'd bring you some prints. Most of them just aren't good enough that I'd think anyone other than me would want to bother looking at them. I'm about halfway through unpacking and putting up the ones I brought with me, though. You could come look through the boxes for duplicates, if you really want. I wouldn't mind company, anyway, Mikhael, and then you could pick ones that you like, rather than whatever I think you might.
"I didn't exactly have a camera on me when we met," she teased. "And I'm not exactly taking it up, since I've been taking pictures for years. But I know what you mean." She listened to him tell her that he was minoring in psychology, and hoped that maybe he'd be in her class. It would be nice to get to know him around other people. "Hopefully. My first one's Thursday at ten." Donia laughed as Kai complained about the proximity of the library to the university. "Well, that'd probably be about twenty-five minutes walking, so taking a car makes sense. You really don't have to come open my door you know," she said, hopping out because she'd already unbuckled her seatbelt and closed the mirror in front of her. "Not to mention I could've just called her to come out, anyway. But maybe something in the front will catch my eye, so I can check something out, too."

Kai gave her a teasing grin. "So basically what you're really trying to say is you need someone to help you unpack, right?" He laughed, showing her that he was really just teasing. "Sure, I don't mind helping you unpack and I need some pictures to brighten up my room anyway; I need copies of the ones I took of you though, not the ones with my face." Kai smiled, hoping that she didn't throw those away because those were the ones he really wanted; pictures of her.
Mikhael laughed. "I know I'm a guy and they say chivalry is dead and whatnot but I can't help myself. My mom tries to kick me when I don't open the door for girls who sit up front." That usually meant that he didn't open doors for his mom though but Donia was most definitely not his mom. "And you had a good point actually, I'm sorry I didn't think of that. I just thought you'd want to check out the books first before leaving." He chuckled apologetically. "So how old is your sister now?" He felt bad for not being able to remember, Donia knew his family but he had barely even met her only sister.

Donia laughed with Kai. "Just the pictures. I've unpacked everything else. But if that's what I need to say to get you to stick around a while, then yes," she rolled her eyes as she spoke with clear sarcasm, "I need a big strong man to open doors and help me unpack." Donia shook her head, as she moved toward the library doors, opening one of them for herself. "Really, Kai, the chivalry thing? It's silly." Not paying attention, she let the door swing shut behind her, almost in his face, but remembered at the last second and turned to prop it open. "Sorry, Mikhael. Oh, about the pictures. You can certainly have those if they're here, but they might be in a different box. My brother, Wes, is bringing a few that we left in a couple of weeks." Plus, I like the ones you took. They reminded her of him as much as the pictures of him did. Donia appreciated that he'd thought to let her check out a few books, and smiled at him. "Which sister?" She had four, but answered with the logical response. "Lorelai, the one who's here, is just about to turn seventeen." And Katniss, whom I left behind, is eight and a half, she thought guiltily.

Kai grinned, catching the sarcasm dripping from her words instantly. “Of course! I knew you would!” He laughed at her and shook his head, knowing that he would have to recant his statement quickly or risk being kicked in places he really would rather keep safe. “I’m kidding, I know you’re capable of moving on your own, I just wanted to help… Maybe make your burden a little lighter you know? Everyone needs help once in a while don’t you th-“ He almost got slammed in the face by the door and he was still a bit stunned when Donia spilled her apologies all over him. He laughed. “It’s alright but maybe we should keep the door opening to someone who doesn’t forget the person behind them huh?” He was still a bit unfocused however when Donia said Lorelai was the one who they were picking up. “Oh, I meant Katniss… You didn’t bring her?”

Donia laughed with him. "I know. I don't need help, but I'm never going to say no to a bit of extra company, not from you, anyway." She wondered at the difference it made having been far away from each other for so long. "Just, obviously, don't pick me up or anything silly like that."
"Sorry again...yeah, I guess I should let somebody else open doors if I'm not the only one going inside. I never remember. I guess I just...only see through my own lens or something." She rolled her eyes, because she couldn't even phrase the thought properly, and waited for him to open the second set of doors to the inside. Donia averted her eyes and swallowed when Mikhael mentioned Katniss. "No. Kat's happy. She's considerably happier there than she's been in such a long time, and I just couldn't take that away from her, you know? She...she has Lila. She'll be fine."

Kai grinned at her. "Yeah I get it, I get it. I promise you that the most I'll ever do is bring over something Georgiana made. Does that seem like a fair trade off to you? Pictures for drug-like confections?"
Mikhael felt a bit guilty once he saw Donia's expression. Donia and Katniss were very close, that much he was aware of. "Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't thinking." He kind of understood what she felt however; his mom had decided to leave the little ones in the care of her father. Moving around a lot wasn't good for them and they seemed to be happier with the old man anyway. "She'll be alright, I'm sure of that. And besides, if you miss her you can just visit right?"

Donia laughed once more. "Alright, that sounds like a fair deal. Or brownie ice cream. I can accept that, too. I might have to take more pictures, though, if I get sweets for giving them to you." It wasn't as if taking more pictures was a hardship for her, however.
No, it's fine. I'll have to deal with it sooner or later. She looked at him again, and tried to trust the confidence and the compassion in his rich, brown eyes. "Yeah, I think so, too. I know so." Donia nodded. "Yeah, of course I can visit her. It's just not the same. If I could take care of her myself...but she needs an adult, needs people around all the time." Donia shook her head. "Come on, let's go find Lorelai."

Kai waggled his eyebrows suggestively. "I happen to know for a fact that my mom bought Georgiana an ice cream maker for her birthday so I can get you home-made brownie ice cream if you want." He chuckled, thanking his lucky stars for a cousin who did not stop cooking until the refrigerator was filled to the brim.
"You have a point there; you two have always been together and it must be a hard change for you to suddenly not have her around anymore. But I know you'll get through it..." He didn't know if he was allowed to say it but he did anyway. "I'm here for you Donia." And he walked ahead of her, not wanting her to see the furious blush that began crawling up his cheeks.

"I think I'll take you up on that, Mikhael Tay," Donia said. "just so long as you name the time, I'll be there."
Donia paused after Kai's comment, because it reminded her how much he didn't know about her, or, at least, about her past. "Not always," she said. "Just longer than I've been around anyone else." I'm here for you, Donia. Donia didn't know what to say to that, but he turned away, and she figured that it would be okay if she didn't reply. Thank you, Mikhael. I'm probably going to need that before too long. She took his hand briefly and squeezed it, then went off in search of her sister and a good book.

He didn't even have time to respond; Donia briefly grabbed his hand and squeezed it and Kai was stunned into silence. By the time he had turned around and opened his mouth, she had gone probably in search of her sister. Kai let out a frustrated groan and ran his fingers through his hair, messing it up even more than it already was. He had never been so affected by a single person; Donia had that effect on him. She was like a bright lamp in a dark room of people. It sounded terribly corny, even in his head but that's what he had always felt about her.
