He wasn't sure how long he stayed stock still right where he was but if his mother had not called him on the phone in his hand, he would have stayed like that a lot longer. Kai winced as he accepted the call. "Hey mom. No I haven't done the errands yet but I'm going to do them now. Why I didn't do it yet? I ran into Donia... Yes, that Donia; as if we know any other Donia. Do you mind if I just drop off the groceries after I'm done? I promised her I'd see her again tonight. Alright, I'll be done soon. Love you too." He hung up and tilted his head upwards to look at the bright sky. Kai was motivated to do the errands quickly because it meant he could see Donia sooner.
A few hours had passed and he had finally done everything that had been on the list his mother had given him. After dropping off the things he had purchased and a brief dinner he went out of the house, taking his phone out of his pocket so he could text Donia.
I'm done. Can I come over?

Lorelai and Donia had gone to the diner Kai had recommended, enjoying the food well enough and each having perhaps a refill too many of the bottomless milkshakes, then had gone back to their apartment. Donia had tried to stay calm, without success, because the day had just been too eventful, compared to what she had expected from today. She had looked up the fitness center's hours and made a plan for going tomorrow, and taking her sister if non-University students were allowed. She had then proceeded to call the family, mainly talking to Katniss but also a couple of the others, and had passed the phone to Lorelai after a while. Because Donia was so antsy, Lorelai had put her book on hold so they could watch a movie and hopefully so that Donia would forget who she was waiting for. She was never like this, so it was a big enough deal to warrant the movie.
The text came when the movie had only a short time left, and Donia couldn't help picking up the phone immediately, Lorelai inwardly rolling her eyes at Donia's actions. Yes. We're on Millberry Lane. There's an addressbook at the entrance to the compound.

Kai grinned at what seemed like an instant text message from Donia.
Cool. I'll be there soon. x
He got into his car and made his way to Millberry Lane which was pretty near Seaview. Though it wasn't as close as being neighbors like before, he was glad that it wasn't far. It was impossible for anything to be truly far in Riverside since it was such a small town. Kai arrived and found their apartment pretty quickly and soon enough he was out of his car, locking it nonchalantly as he ran a hand through his spiky hair and rung the doorbell, hoping Donia would answer and not Lorelai. It had been barely a few hours but he had missed her already.

The bell rang, and Lorelai raised her eyebrows at Donia, who was turning off the television. "Oh, hush," she said.
"I didn't say anything," her sister replied, before, walking away towards her bedroom.
Donia brushed her bangs from her face as much as she could, then opened the door for Mikhael, a sigh escaping her mouth and a smile gracing her lips as she did so. It felt so much better and she was so much more relaxed now that he was actually here. It was the waiting that she'd hated. "Hi, Mikhael," Donia said. "I suppose I owe you some pictures, don't I?" she asked. "First, though, can I get you anything to drink, or anything at all, I guess?"

He grinned at her and quirked a brow in her direction. "Hey... You know you can call me Kai, right? It's only one syllable and it's much easier to say." Kai distinctly remembered having a similar conversation with her before and he had to smile at the nostalgia. "I'm fine, thanks; do you have the pictures? I want to look at them with you." He spoke a bit more assertively than he normally did as he stepped inside and closed the door behind him. Kai looked around for a bit before fixing his gaze on her again. It seemed weird to say out loud but he missed having the choice of looking at her just because he could.

"I know, Mikhael," said Donia, doing a bad job of suppressing a grin. She had called him Kai a couple of times, but as long as she wasn't trying to get his attention or speak quickly, it didn't really matter anyhow, and she thought it was more eloquent. "If you prefer, I will call you Kai," she said, "but do me a favor and don't shorten my name, alright?" she said, scrunching her nose slightly.
"Yes, of course," she said, "they're in my room." I know, that is kind of why you're here. "What are you looking at?" Donia asked, swinging her body around to try to identify what he was glancing around at. She smiled, not expecting much of an answer, then turned to lead the way to her bedroom and the pictures, one hand clutching at her necklace as she did so. "The pictures are this way." She paused only to pick her camera up off a table in the living area.

He rolled his eyes dramatically but grinned to show he was just teasing her. "Sure, make it harder for yourself. Kai is just one syllable while Mikhael is two with that 'ekh'-Russian sound." Kai shook his head as he reached for Donia's hand, not really to do anything like stop her but just because he could, unlike before. "Well what can you shorten Donia to anyway? Don? Naia?" He chuckled. "No, I think I'll just stick to Donia. You think my name sounds eloquent but I think your name just... suits you." His fingers were barely brushing against hers but he didn't mind it as he followed her. Kai shrugged at her question and smiled quizzically. "Aside from you? Nothing." It sounded cheesy but it was the truth.
Mikhael chuckled softly when he noticed her clutch her necklace and then move to pick up her camera which she cradled. If he was asked, he would have said that Donia changed... And didn't all at the same time. She still clutched her necklace when she fidgeted and still cradled her camera as if it was as fragile as a little bird. But now she let him touch her and she was more forward with him and he probably wouldn't tell her but he was glad... Very very glad that his patience had pulled off, even if it was barely any progress.

"I guess I will," Donia said, playing along. She turned again when his fingers reached for her hand. "Naia and Kai," she laughed. Shortening her name was absurd. "I would not shorten it to anything, but believe it or not, I have had a couple of people try to call me Don." She hadn't said eloquent, but he was right on target, so she didn't make a retort.
Aside from you? he said, nothing. Donia waved a hand in his direction, as if telling him to stop. Oh, hush. You're full of it. "Well, thank goodness I have pictures to keep you distracted with, then." A night of being closely watched was not what she'd signed up for. Donia kept moving, pulling open the door to her room when she reached it. Half of the walls were covered in photographs, and there were three more boxes full of them, but as always, Donia's eyes went straight to a framed picture on her nightstand, one of the few in the room that she had not taken herself. The subjects were Katniss, Andy, and a slightly younger version of herself, and each of them was smiling. Donia pulled her eyes away quickly enough, and as she set her camera on her bed, she started opening a box. "Kai," she said, stressing the name, "the ones you want to see are probably either in here, or on that corner of the wall," she said, pointing. "I don't think I have any doubles up, so if you want one of those, we'll have to find another copy or you'll have to fight me for it."

Kai snorted in amusement at her suggestion. "Please, I'd beg you to call me Mikhael if it meant I'd have to call you Naia or Don... Don? Seriously?" He interlaced his fingers with hers absently and smiled when he tried to imagine what Donia had done when someone had tried calling her Don. I hope she kicked them hard.
He laughed at her gesture and shrugged innocently. "It's the truth." He followed her to her room and released her hand to look at the pictures on her walls, smiling at all the memories she had kept around herself. Kai's gaze drifted to the corner where she had pointed and made his way there to get the box before setting himself in front of Donia. "So Naia, how are we fighting for copies?" He waggled his eyebrows playfully as he opened the box and looked through the pictures, grinning widely at the second one he managed to unearth. It was of him on their only 'date'. "You want this?"

She wasn't amused for long, but let him have his fun with the idea. "Like I said, not only do you not have to, but you really ought not to. Three syllables are all I ask for, really, Mikhael." She rolled her eyes when he insisted that his statement was the truth, but didn't say anything more on the matter. Flattery was not unwelcome or uncommon to her ears. Donia let him take her hand, and she actually didn't notice at first, but when she did she was a little uncomfortable, not that she could explain why. They'd kissed earlier, and that was somewhat beyond hand holding in most peoples' books. She only pulled her hand away when she needed it to open her bedroom door, as her other hand was otherwise engaged by her camera.
Donia smirked at Kai's use of the nickname. "You can probably think of something," she said, then moved her attention to the picture he had pulled out. "Yes, of course, but I remember you protesting quite a lot when I took that. At least you did not insist on stealing my whole roll of film like you did that other evening," she said, referring to a couple of pictures he'd tried to bribe away from her with ice cream, and which were now on the wall in this room. "I might be able to give it up, though, and you can certainly have it if there's a double. I will admit, I am a bit selfish when it comes to my photographs."Donia hated losing pictures, and she'd left a fair amount before moving, though it was hard to believe with all the photographs lining the walls and these boxes.

Kai laughed at her discomfort. "Don't worry Donia, I don't think I could ever keep a straight face if I called you Don anyway." He shook his head in amusement. "Really, why do you you choose the long way to say things. There's even that terrible 'ekh'-Russian sound yet you prefer it over simple 'Kai'." He didn't actually mind what she called him that much; he was just amused that she liked his full name a lot more since his mother didn't even call him that. When Donia let go of his hand, he put his hand into his pocket.
He too remembered the day she had taken that picture and he laughed. "I'm a guy... A guy who had never modeled before; of course I protested." Kai smiled as he found another picture, this time it was one he took. "Okay, I'm willing to compromise. Give me this one picture, that's all I ask for. Just this one and I'll be fine."

Donia smiled again, and shrugged. She wasn't really sure, but that wouldn't make her stop doing it. "I don't really know. I call Katniss 'Kat' all the time," she said, and she had called her brother Andy. "I suppose that it is just habit."
Donia laughed. "I wasn't trying to make you model. I was just trying to get a shot." Donia watched him curiously as he looked at another picture and a smile found his face. He could certainly have more than one picture; she had plenty of doubles. "You could at least show me the picture you want to to take from me, could you not?" If she was the subject, she'd probably let him have it. He loved his perspective in two of the shots he'd taken of her, and liked it in those he'd taken of other subjects, but for the most part, she didn't care for pictures of herself.
Sorry it's short. :/

( You know your version of short is everyone else's version of long )
Kai shrugged and nodded, knowing what she meant. It had taken him a good year to start calling his older sister Ser. He had just been so used to calling her Seraph especially since their father had always called her by her full name. "Mmm... Habit."
He shook his head in amusement. "Yeah just like how you always find me when I'm playing the guitar and you want to take insane pictures standing or probably climbing the tree I'm under or something." Kai chuckled as he showed her the picture, smiling fondly at the memory. "This one's staying with me."

I forgot that, actually.
"Yep. I cannot help that you introduced yourself as Mikhael."
"Exactly. You cannot just let a moment pass you by if the shot is there," said Donia, refusing to be embarrassed about what she would do to get a shot. "If I really get it into my head that I want one...you know, nothing but a solid wall of fire could keep me from trying. One time, I, um, kind of sneaked backstage at a play because I couldn't get it otherwise." Donia looked at the picture he showed her. "Oh, that is a good one," she said, but she knew exactly where its counterpart was on her wall, so if he wanted this one, she would let him keep it. "I really wasn't paying attention to the fact that you had my camera at all."

Kai laughed. "I'm pretty sure I added a 'you can call me Kai' to that introduction... So does it mean if you had introduced yourself as Donia Weirich, then I would have had to call you by your full name all the time?" He grinned at her. "Fine then, make sure not to let any moments pass you by so after you process the pictures, I can steal them from you." He shook his head in amusement, knowing that her determination to get the things she wanted, especially when it came to her pictures, was something he truly loved about her. She fought for things and he hoped that one day, if the need ever arose, she'd fight for him too. He took out his wallet from his pocket, and slid it into one of the slots, making sure it didn't crease.
