Shawn let out a small smile at the 'thanks' he got from Polaris. He was just happy he got her to say something other than a simple, 'hmph'. Leading her in the Diner, they were greeted by a waitress, though through her eyes she seemed a bit startled at first by Shawn's looks, the way most people acted at first, but got over it by leading them to a table for two. "Thanks." Shawn muttered to the waitress who handed each of them menus before leaving them be before coming back for their order. Shawn skimmed through the menu for a moment or two before lifting his head back up to Polaris with a light smile. "Um, so I heard they have the best milkshakes here. I'm not really into that sort of thing, but I'm willing to try one if you are." he grinned, thinking in his head what sort of unnecessary thought she was thinking at that moment. Probably something like, how he's more of an alcoholic than an ice cream shake kind of guy. That he'd rather get drunk in a bar than have a calm, relaxing day with a nice girl and a cold shake. He had no doubts she was thinking something like that.

Polaris followed Shawn, then the waitress to their table. Polaris smiled at the waitress and nodded in thanks before looking through the menu, keeping it over her face to keep from looking at Shawn or him looking at her. She looked over it at him whenever he made some comment about milkshakes. Polaris raised a confused eyebrow at him, not sure how to react. Milkshakes? Really? He's either really doped up or he's straining himself with this one. Keeping her thoughts to herself though, she shrugged and looked back at the waitress. "Well I'm usually not one to pass down a good milkshake. If you have the Cookies 'N' Creme kind here, that would make my day." She was being polite to the waitress, but didn't direct any of her fake good-hearted-ness(I guess?) towards Shawn.

Shawn gave another light smile, keeping his eyes on Polaris when she spoke to the waitress. Even though she technically wasn't talking directly to him, she at least was answering his question that she obviously heard. He looked back up at the waitress taking in their drinks first, keeping his small grin in attempt of keeping up his good behavior. "I'll just have a strawberry milkshake. Please." he told the waitress, quickly adding in the 'please' trying not only to please Polaris, but to please himself that he could in fact change. Once the waitress left again to get their drinks ready, Shawn turned back to Polaris, biting his lip slightly before returning to his menu just to hide the frustration on his face he was hiding from her.

Poland could feel his eyes on her as she ordered and she smiled lightly as the waitress took her order. She heard the 'please' Shawn had given and shook her head lightly. Nobody can change over just one week. Something's screwed up here. Polaris kept her thoughts to herself again and felt his eyes on her once again. She hid her smirk as he hid his own frustration, not doing a very good job if it. She looked over the menu, deciding to just get a simple Steak burger and fries. She closed her menu, waiting for the waitress to come back, but still not acknowledging that Shawn was in front of her.

Finally deciding on his order, Shawn set down the menu, finally brave enough to show his face again. She probably just thinks this is all an act. Like I could ever change in this short of time. he thought frustratingly, shaking his head not at her, but more at himself. Like she could tell though with the sudden dirty look on his face. The waitress finally made it over with each of their shakes, and had asked if they were ready to order. Shawn nodded, giving his order of a chili cheese burger and fries out to her immediately without any second thoughts of knowing if Polaris was ready or not. Damn it! he cursed to himself with a blink, biting his lip again, making eye contact with Polaris this time. "You are ready to order, right?" he asked, trying to not make it sound so rude, but with the way the tone of his voice naturally was, it was hard to tell.

Polaris didn't know if he was making a face at her or not, but she didn't want to start jumping to conclusions just yet. She moved her hair behind her ear, busying herself with the menu in front of her until the waitress came back. She smiled brightly as she got her shake and opened her mouth before Shawn gave out his order. She didn't mind that she didn't go first; but she did feel a little smirk curl on her lips as he rechecked with her if she was ready. She turned to the waitress and gave her order of the steak burger with fries, changing her mind to cheesy fries; one of her favorites. She thanked the waitress as she left, then turned to Shawn: "You don't have to jump every time you do something wrong; it only irritates me more."

He grinned as well once the waitress left to get their orders made. He gave a slight shrug at her remark just then, managing to mutter out, "I know..." in more of a whine than a grumble really. "I just..." he sighed, "I really don't want to screw things over between us again." he admitted slowly, keeping his voice low and deep like a whisper rather than soft and sweet, something he could never do, even if he tried. After admitting that to her then, Shawn played with his straw of his shake a bit before taking a small taste of this new taste of drink, which surprisingly he found very tasteful and delicious. You could see it in his eyes that he was very surprised himself.

Polaris gave him a look and crossed her arms. "You won't have to work hard then, because there is no us." She managed not to snap it out at him, coming out as more of a mocked polite tone. She took her drink and pulled out a spoon, eating it rather than just sipping it. She had crushed up Oreo bits on the top, and she'd rather have eaten hose first then just drunken the whole shake with them for last. She tried to contain her smile from eating it but accidentally let out a small laugh at the surprise in Shawn's eyes. "Have you never had a milkshake before?" She stirred her drink, looking at it instead of him.

Shawn shrugged slightly, biting his straw a bit before attempting to get another sip out of his shake which was surprisingly delicious to him. After seeing what Polaris was doing, scooping out the shake with her spoon, Shawn copied her and grabbed his spoon as well, taking what seemed like a monstrous bite compared to Polaris' little bites. It really was easier to get the taste in, he thought. chuckling lightly at Polaris' question, nodding slowly. "It really is good. Guess I'm just not used to this much of sweetness in my mouth." he grinned, gladly taking another bite. The only other sweetness I've ever tasted was you, though. he thought in his head, having the urge to say it out loud, but decided against it. Especially with what she had told him earlier about how there was no 'us'.

Polaris stirred her shake, hoping that the waitress would be back soon with thier food so that it would be easier for her to ignore him. She scoffed lightly at his answer back, almost immediately being able to read his thoughts and regretting her statement. "You should try it more often. Maybe it'll coat over your sowerness." She threw the comment as if she was talking about the weather or something casual. She took another bite of her drink, swinging her legs under the table, accidentally hitting him.

Raising his brow simply, Shawn didn't even have a reply back to her. He just continued eating his way through the shake, that is, until she kicked him. "Whoa!" he jerked, ever so slightly flinching, glancing under the table at her legs continuing to swing. "Ow, you know that was me you kicked, and not the table right?" he asked her, more rhetorically than anything, though he doubted she would care. "I guess I did deserve that kick in the shin, though." he muttered under his breath then, hoping she wouldn't catch that last comment to himself.

Polaris sort of flinched when he made a scene about her kicking him. "Well sorry, geez, I didn't mean to." She heard him mutter faintly, but pretended not to notice. "It's not like I'm trying to cause trouble, I just got bored sitting still." She ate another spoonful of her shake then put the spoon down. She bit her lip, then sighed, finally letting herself ask the question that had bugged the back of her mind since he knocked on her door. "So why are you really taking me to dinner? I doubt it's to just sit and chat." It came out faster than she'd wanted, but she covered it up quickly by folding her arms and leaning back.

Wrinkling his forehead, Shawn stirred his shake while trying to figure out what to say to that. He didn't think he was being so rude about it, but apparently, Polaris either thought so herself, or she just still wasn't over it from the last time they saw each other. "Whoa, Polaris, I didn't mean to sound so rude, I was just--" he suddenly got interrupted by Polaris' question that Shawn certainly wasn't exactly ready to answer just yet. Or rather explain. He stood there, frozen at first, not even stirring his shake even more. "Well..I--" he started out, or at least attempting to. "I just want to.." he tried again, but blinked through frustration, biting his lip and rubbing his neck, fidgeting in his chair. All he wanted to say was that he was sorry for his behavior and that all he wanted to do now was to just start over. Start fresh with her, and hopefully things would work out for the better rather than for the worse. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry." he spat out, a little too fast possibly, from the cause of his nervousness. "I want to change." he finally finished saying more clearly, letting out a sigh of relief.

Polaris waved his comment about not trying to be rude away with her hand, shaking her head and muttering a soft 'Whatever' in response. It was hopeless at the moment ti understand anything he said after that, so she just watched him closely as he tried to come up with an explanation as to why he bothered bringing her here. She was about to tell him to forget it, to just drop the whole subject, when he suddenly spilled his apology. Surprised and confused, it was hard to keep in a scoff and a scowl from his last sentence. "Change huh? And what would I have to do with any of that? As far as I'm concerned, it's got no relivance as to why I'm here so I could care less either way." Polaris wanted to jab more at him, puncturing his hopeful bubble. But she managed to keep her mouth shut, the hateful words that she was coming up with rolling around in her head, waiting for a chance to rush out at him if he screwed up at all.

Again, Shawn's forehead gave out wrinkles, seeming quite confused in her attitude lately. He was at least attempting not to shout or raise his tone of voice, but Polaris seemed not to have any problems with it. God, damn. Why do girls have to hold grudges? he thought to himself, shrugging at the thought itself. "Well, you know, I was sort of hoping you could help me with the change." he finally said, letting his tone start to raise, he just couldn't help it anymore, nor did he care. "Because if I recall the last time we saw each other, you told me something about wanting, er, trying to be a good friend, but I was just using you or something." he scoffed, "I can't help be me, Polaris. Though after that whole week of not making any sort of fucking contact with you, I felt so much better, that I figured I'd make a fucking new fresh start. But, I guess that's not what you fucking want. So you know what, I am sorry that I took you on a fucking date. You can leave now, by all means. I'll still pay for your half, because that's just the kind of guy I'm trying to become." he finished, taking in a couple of breaths, nearly forgetting about his milkshake sitting in front of him starting to melt now.
