"Don't be out long Sheryl." Sheryl turned to her brother, slipping on her glasses. "I'm fourteen Zavier. I think I can handle myself." She turned away, opening the door. "Sheryl!" Sheryl turned to her brother, a frown on her face. "What Zavier? What?" Zavier sighed, shaking his head. "Nevermind. Leave." Sheryl turned around, slamming the door behind her. She stuck her hands in her pockets, stalking down the street. She had no idea where she was going, since she hadn't been in Riverside for very long, but she couldn't stay at home. Ever since they'd run away from the foster home....
"I hate my life." She grumbled, gasping when she tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. "Fuck my life!" She cried, picking herself up. She turned the corner, walking down the street until she reached the lake. Sheryl slowed down, looking around. It was peaceful here, almost peaceful enough to make her forget about how much her life sucked. Almost. Tears filled her eyes as she limped towards a tree, she'd scraped her knee when she fell. Sinking onto the ground, she wiped the tears from her cheeks, leaning her head against the tree. "Stuff was so much easier when mom and dad were alive..."

PJ hadn't gotten a chance to explore around yet. He had left most of his things yet to be unpacked, and decided to take a break. His sister had already gone out before him. The only one back at the house was his oldest sister, Annie, who he doubted would be going out soon, as she had too many things to unpack. As he continued walking, he noticed a girl with glasses, and heard her cry out about hating her life. Did something happen to her? What happened? He stopped for a while and let her go ahead, without noticing him. He wasn't sure whether he should follow her to find out what's wrong, or start walking in the other direction.
After a few moments of hesitation, PJ started walking in the same direction she was going. He finally stopped when he noticed the lake, and his gaze traveled from side to side, looking for the girl... There she is. PJ thought, seeing the girl leaning against a tree, with some tears in her eyes. He stood a short distance behind her, and approached her cautiously. "Um... Are you alright?" he asked.

Sheryl looked up as she heard a voice, a frown on her face. "Do I look okay?" She snapped without really thinking first. After a second though, her face fell and she turned away. "Sorry." She whispered, another tear sliding down her cheek. She didn't normally let herself cry in front of people, but at this point she figured her life couldn't get any worse and she just didn't care who saw. "My life sucks." She offered, shaking her head. Another tear slid down her cheek, but she didn't bother to brush this one away.

PJ wasn't really surprised when she snapped at her, as knew that he would have probably done the same thing if he was in her condition. He leaned against the tree and slid down beside her, not sure about what he should do. He hesitated before asking her, "W-what happened?" PJ bit his lip lightly. He just really wished there was something he could do to help... Just sitting there beside her and asking her questions that were probably going to make her feel worst wouldn't do any good. After moments of silence, without thought, he just randomly wiped away the tear sliding down her cheek. "D-don't cry..." he murmured.

Sheryl looked up at the boy. She was surprised he didn't leave after her snap, normally people didn't bother dealing with her, she didn't blame them. But, if she was honest with herself, she actually really liked the attention. She just wished it wasn't while she was crying. "I don't think you want to know my whole life story." She murmured, pulling her legs up. Sheryl looked back up, startled when he wiped the tear from her cheek, a light blush staining them.

Is there anything I can do...? he asked himself, over and over. Maybe he just wasn't used to dealing with these situations. PJ wasn't used to helping others... Not that he was too selfish to help, he was just always the bystander, watching in the background. He looked at her and lightly smiled warmly, hoping that it could possibly bring a smile to her face, too. "Uh, I haven't introduced myself yet..." he murmured, mostly to himself. "I-i'm PJ Ellis." He hoped he had not made the conversation awkwarder than it already was.

Sheryl blinked when he smiled at her, not sure what to do now. She was still confused as to why he was sticking around, but decided not to question it. She gave hesitantly smiled back, it wasn't much but you could still tell she tried. "O-oh...I'm, uh..." She wasn't sure if she should give her real name, her family hardly ever did when introducing themselves. But, this boy had been nothing but nice to her, and she would feel bad for lying to him. "I'm Sheryl." She finally said, opting to only give her first name.

PJ noticed her try to smile weakly at him, though it was vague. He smiled back at her warmly. Hearing her stutter, he somehow found it adorable. PJ offered his hand in a shake, "Nice to meet you." he said, happy that he had been able to stop the tears so far. He just disliked seeing people in pain, especially when they started crying in front of him, and he couldn't do anything to stop them. Do you feel better now? he wanted to ask the question, though he was afraid she would just be reminded that she was upset before and start crying again.

"N-nice to meet you too..." Sheryl took his hand, shaking it quickly before dropping it just as fast. She brushed her bangs away, only to have it fall in her face again. Biting her lip, Sheryl looked away from him, not sure of what to talk about. People usually left her before they got this far due to her sucky attitude, so she wasn't quite used to socializing. "Um..." She frowned, looking up at him. Why was he sticking around anyway? He looked to be at least a year older than her, if not more, so he should have friends to hang out with. And she wasn't giving the best company right now, she would've left if she were him. "I'm sorry. I don't have any friends so I'm not used to making conversation." Nice Sheryl. Make yourself seem lonely.

PJ smiled at her when she said she didn't have much friends. "It's okay, I don't, either. I'm new to this town, after all." he told her, "I usually don't walk up to people like this." PJ blushed lightly. He didn't know if it would work out, but he had an idea. He stood up, leaned against the tree, and held her hand out to her. "Hm..." his voice trailed off. "If you want, maybe we can go eat or something. I'm kind of hungry." Was it even a good idea to invite a complete stranger to come with him? It doesn't matter, does it? He thought, maybe it could possibly take her mind off of things...

Sheryl didn't say anything to his admission, but looked up at him wide-eyed when he offered his hand to her. "You...you want to eat with me?" She bit her lip, taking his hand and standing, a bit awkwardly. "I-I don't have any money..." She was hungry too, but she didn't have enough money to go out to eat.

PJ nodded and smirked, "Yeah. If you want, I mean. I'm not busy today." he shrugged. "That's fine, I think I have enough for the two of us." PJ told her, putting his hand in his pocket and playing with some coins. "Er... Well, where do you want to eat?" He hadn't really gotten the chance to explore yet, besides today. Being new meant he didn't know any of the places around, but he remembered his sister mentioning a few places. If only he could remember the names...

Sheryl ran a hand through her hair. She really wanted to refuse to go with him, but she was also really hungry, and her hunger was currently winning the battle. "I don't know." She answered, placing a hand on her hip and looking around the place. "I haven't been here very long..." Sheryl bit her lip, looking back up at him. "Maybe we could walk around and see if we can find some places?"

PJ nodded at her suggestion. "Good idea. It'll give me a chance to explore a bit, anyway." he nodded, "I remember my sister mentioning a few places, but I forgot what their names were..." he chuckled lightly. "What direction do you want to go in? Maybe we can go, that way?" PJ asked, pointing to the left.

Sheryl nodded, running another hand through her hair and adjusting her glasses. "Sure." She nodded, and began walking in the direction pointed to her. "So...uh..." She bit her lip, frowning. "H-how long have you been in town?"
