"Since I was in sixth grade." Shen told her simply. He caught his breath, sitting down next to her. "It's not too bad, of course, you build up to that level. Like I'm sure you do with yours..." He explained to her, the corners of his mouth forming the slightest smile.

"Still, that's like--I couldn't do that even if I tried." Amaya shook her head, not able to wipe the grin off her face. "Learning Capoeira was hard enough. Although learning more than one fighting style wouldn't be such a bad idea." She shook her head, looking at Shen again. "What got you into it? Wushu, I mean."

Shen looked to the floor, "Oh uh..." He began, biting his bottom lip. "Actually... I got bullied in um... elementary school." He sighed a little, somewhat forgetting English, mostly not wanting to remember that part of his past. "Because I was put into the hospital... so my parents let me learn martial arts to keep myself safe." He explained. He tried to make it so it wasn't awkward, but all he could do was give her an awkward smile after he was done.

"Oh. Well, it's good you're parents let you learn. Bullies suck." Amaya, although she was never bullied herself, had her share of dealing with bullies. They never had the chance to bully her, since she'd always been a tough girl, she automatically fought back. Although she has been in quite a few fights. She stuck out her legs, stretching forward. Amaya pretended not to see his awkward smile, keeping her eyes forward. "Was it super hard to learn?"

"Well, you learn flipping pretty early on..." Shen began explaining. He looked around, seeming shy about looking at her directly in the eyes. "So you really learn how to do things quickly. Especially since I was learning from a professional Wushu master, it was very strict..." He added.

"Flipping seems hard. The only time I ever flip is on a trampoline." Amaya laughed softly. She looked over at him, noticing the fact that he wasn't looking her in the eyes. She smiled a bit, resting her cheek on her folded arms. "Do you think you could teach me how to flip sometime?"

Shen looked up at her and smiled, seeming to relax a little. It seemed he was just shy about talking with people in general, because he was worried about his English, not very social, his history with people relations. Instead of saying anything right away, he nodded to her. He seemed excited about finding a reason to continue practicing Wushu in the U.S. "I can teach you some Wushu, and in return, will you teach me... uh..." He faded off, still unsure of what it was that she had shown him. "Capi..." He tried, eyebrows furrowed.

Amaya chuckled softly, "Capoeira. Don't worry, it took me a long time to learn the word too." She stretched out slowly, feeling her muscles starting to tighten up. Amaya had the feeling she would like spending time with him, both during training and outside of it. She just had to get him out of his little shell first. "So, Shen." She started, rolling onto her stomach and looking up at him. "What do you like to do other than Wushu?"

Shen thought a moment. Ever since he started it, his life seemed to revolve around Wushu. He shrugged. "Playing around, I guess. Arcade, things like that." He told her simply, seeming to be muttering thoughts rather than telling someone their hobbies. He looked up at her and asked a bit louder, "What about you? Besides uhh... Capi... capoeira... what do you like to do?"

Amaya kept the smile on her face as Shen answered, the smile widening when he once again tried to pronounce Capoeira, this time getting it right. It seemed like he was beginning to get more comfortable around her, even though he hadn't answered her very loudly, but she could still see she had a ways to go. "Really? I play a lot of video games too. I mostly play sports though, with my brothers." Amaya was super active, something guys tended to veer away from. Most of the time she wasn't "girl" enough, and just like that Amaya found herself wondering if she'd be girl enough for Shin. She felt her cheeks heat up at that thought and immediately erased it from her mind. There were bigger things to worry about than whether she was anyone's type. Besides, she'd never worried about things like that before, why start now?

"Ah..." Shen replied quietly, seeming preoccupied with something else. He seemed to be listening pretty hard, making sure he didn't miss a word or misunderstand anything. "You have siblings?" He asked her once she was done speaking. He looked her over, and his mind almost did a double take. He barely knew her, but he couldn't see her a sporty type. She was so pretty and so unlike the girls he knew from his Wushu classes back in Shanghai. It was almost a little weird to try to imagine her playing video games or soccer or... He blinked a couple times, trying to get himself out of his thoughts so he could pay attention to the English being spoken at him. There was no switching to Chinese here, and it was a good way to become fluent in English.

Amaya nodded, not noticing his look. She'd turned her attention to the wall. "Yeah. I have a lot of siblings actually. So many a lot of us older ones moved into another house." A light smile crossed her lips and she laughed softly. "My mom loves adopting kids. It's kinda fun sometimes, having so many people in the same place, but it came be a bit overwhelming too." Finally turning to Shen, her smile widened a bit before asking, "So what about you? Do you have any siblings?"

Shen's eyes widened, he couldn't imagine having a family so big they took up two houses. As it was, back in China (where it was common, in fact encouraged, for families to have only one child), his friends always said his family was big. "Um, I just have an older brother and younger sister." He told her, seeming like he was jolted out of his thoughts when he first began speaking.

"Ahh. Sometimes I wish I had a smaller family." Amaya said, smiling a bit. "Having a huge family can get a bit hectic sometimes. But I love my family. I don't know where I would've ended up if my mom hadn't adopted me." She sat up then, scooting back against the wall. "Do you think you'd want a big family later on?"

Shen shrugged, but a light-hearted smile was on his face. "I don't really think about it too often, to be honest. But I like kids. Three seems like a good number..." He seemed to be thinking out loud. "Maybe four or five... But probably no more." He looked up at her, a curious look in his eyes. "What's it like being adopted?" He asked her, not sure if the question would cause offense or not.
