It had been a while since he had seen hide or hair of Jordan Collins and Xander was starting to miss his fiery-haired friend. He was currently seated on one of the large sofas in the living room, slumping so only his head could be seen. He had put his phone on his stomach and his blue eyes were practically tearing as he continued to stare at it without blinking. Clearly, he was torn; he wasn't sure if he was allowed to call her, allowed to text her and ask her out or if that would make him seem desperate and lonely. Truthfully, Xander Burkeheart was past desperate and lonely; he was probably half-crazy by then. A soft almost silent sigh escaped his lips as he continued to battle with himself. Jackie walked down the steps and noticed the conflict playing out on her older brother's face and she shook her head. It would have been fun to watch if she didn't feel sorry for him. "Stop overthinking Alexandre and text her already." With that, she left the house, closing the front door with a resounding shut. Xander sighed again as he slowly took his phone from where it rest and mentally prepared himself.

Collins jumped as her phone vibrated, she was in the middle of writing a research paper for her English class about some random topic in the Vietnam War. In all honesty, it was a paper to show that she had a thorough understanding of how to do research, site her sources, and do all that APA formatting and what not. Honestly, these are the papers she dreads the most and to make matters worse, she despise the Vietnam War over all the other wars for no reason at all. Her topic isn't very exciting and she's been more than eager for a distraction since starting the paper earlier that morning. She glanced at the screen to make sure it wasn't Garret asking her for her help on his research paper and a broad smile stretched across her face.
To: Xander Burkeheart From: Collins

It seemed like Xander had waited ages but when his phone finally beeped, he panicked. He hesitantly opened the message and a tiny grin began to form on his handsome face as he thought of what to text her back.
To: Collins From: Xander
How areI missed you?
He had deleted the first thing he had typed and decided to ask her how she was instead. Xander didn't want to sound like a creeper. He shook his head in exasperation and leaned his head back, waiting for her reply. He vaguely wondered if she was busy and if they could go out.

To: Xander From: Collins
I'm miserable, writing a research paper on a topic I despise in a format I hate with a passion. Et tu?

Sitting on the couch waiting for your replies. I have no life if it isn't obvious.

To: Xander From: Collins
Well, I don't know what to say. I've missed you. I'd certainly rather be sitting on the couch next to you doing nothing than writing this paper.

I've missed you too. Do you want to come over? You could always use a break; why don't we go get some coffee or something?

I could use a break, but I don't really feel like being around a bunch of people at the moment. Would you want to come over here?

To: Collins From: Xander
*gasp* I never expected Jordan Collins to be lazy! This is a miracle! I'm kidding. Sure, I'll be there in a bit. You make the coffee; I'll bring the sweets.
Xander hopped off the couch, smiling all the way to the kitchen as he grabbed whatever Georgiana had prepared for the day. Cream puffs from Cameron's birthday party/dinner, and fudge brownies --perfect. He took the sweets, knowing Georgie wouldn't even notice the loss with all the things she had been making. He grabbed the car keys Cameron kept on the kitchen hook and made his way to the Mini Cooper. Xander rolled his eyes as he pulled out of the driveway and made his way to Collins' house; he really needed to get a car but he kept forgetting to ask his godmother about it.
He arrived soon enough and carried his offerings in one hand as he got out and locked the car with a click of a button. Xander glanced at his reflection in the mirror and mentally sighed as he checked the jeans, sneakers and black shirt he had worn. His hair was a bit ruffled and he ran a harried hand through it before he made his way to the door; ringing the doorbell.

To: Xander From: Collins
See you in a bit.
She sent the message, clicked the floppy disk save button in the top left hand corner of her laptop a dozen times, shut the computer and scrambled to her closet mirror to check her reflection. She frowned at the sight of herself, she wouldn't have a lot of time, certainly not enough time to shower, but the thing that needed the most attention was her makeup. She hurried into the bathroom, cleaned up her smudged eyeliner and mascara and smeared a bit of eyeshadow on. She was reconsidering her outfit when the doorbell rang. She groaned in frustration, her swim t-shirt and track pants would just have to do, it wasn't like they didn't match, she just hadn't changed out of them since she got out of bed.
She pulled the door open and then remembered she forgot to make the coffee. "Damn you're fast." She motioned for him to come in, taking one of the sweets containers away from him and then heading straight for the kitchen. "I forgot to make the coffee, but my dad has this coffee machine that makes coffee in an instant so it won't be long." She set up the coffee maker and turned around to look at him. "Sorry, I'm not dressed to the nines, I've been home alone all day and with the stupid paper, I didn't even think about it."

A smile tugged on the corners of Xander's lips as he stepped into her house. "Just figure in the lack of traffic and the fact that we don't live too far from each other." He grinned at her; she wasn't dressed to the nines but for some reason, to him she was perfect. "You look great Collins, don't worry about it." He followed her into the kitchen and sat in one of the chairs after setting the food on the table. "It's alright, I can wait. How's the paper going?" His classes didn't seem to bother him much because he had taken as few subjects as was allowed just because he wanted to adjust to the town before really immersing himself in his studies. Now he was constantly bored.

"Right." She said. "Well next time I'll have to ask you to stall so I can at least put on a shirt that's not a size too small and actually make the coffee I said I was going to." She laughed and pulled at the hem of her shirt, it wasn't really that small, it just showed off an inch of skin above the waist of her pants. "The paper stinks, I'm almost done with it, I'm just dragging my feet." The coffee pot stopped and she turned to gather two mugs from the cabinet above and brought both the mugs and the pot to the counter, then took the seat beside him. "Oh, did you want cream and sugar or milk or something?" She got back up and went to the fridge to pull out all the possible coffee additives. "Dad's really big on hazelnut right now as opposed to french vanilla."

Xander chuckled and nodded. "Alright, I'll give you a 5-minute grace period next time before I leave." He watched her move around the kitchen and for some reason, he was hypnotized. It wasn't like she was doing anything special, but the way she moved just made him realize how much he had missed her. "Not really; I take it black with a spoon of sugar." He grinned as he received the mug with a murmured thanks, spooning in one teaspoon of sugar before stirring the coffee thoughtfully. "I brought cream puffs and brownies; my cousin is a cooking fiend. What's the paper about anyway?"

She poured her coffee and added her additives before sitting and looking at him. "It's about the Vietnam War and that's as far as I'd like to explain it, thanks." She took a sip of the hot coffee and eyed the brownies he'd brought. "Is she the one who made all the food at the picnic?" She asked. "Because she's my new best friend." She smiled and picked up a brownie to munch on.

He sipped at the coffee, wary that he'd burn his tongue and embarrass himself in front of the girl he liked. It was good and strong, and he found himself taking a longer sip. "Does it make me a bit morbid if I say that I enjoyed reading about WWII? I hated the genocide and the death of so many innocent people but it was fascinating in a creepy way." Xander shook his head and took a cream puff from the container. "Yeah, she's a pastry fiend; we had trouble trying to fit all the things she made at home and I'm pretty sure my relatives are giving most of the things away to their friends just to get rid of it." He chuckled. "I'll tell her that; she'll like it. She gets so many compliments about her cooking but she never tires of it. You'll see her around at school though; you're in the same year."
