The park was starting to become home for sixteen-year-old Marissa. Actually, it was a home for her. She didn't have anywhere else to go, and she couldn't afford to stay in a hotel with what little money she had, so she tended to sleep at the park, a complete change to what her life used to be. She often found herself missing her warm, comfy queen sized bed, but then memories of her controlling father quickly made her remember why she'd run away in the first place, and then the park bench didn't seem so bad anymore.
It was starting to get chilly, so the park wasn't as busy as it usually was. Marissa was glad for that, it meant she could draw the falling leaves peacefully without many interruptions. Well, except her constantly growling stomach. But she'd already eaten breakfast that day, and couldn't afford to get anything else. God, what I wouldn't give to have an omelet right now. She thought as her stomach growled yet again. Marissa quickly shook those thoughts out of her mind though. No! I ran away from all of that for a reason. No more dwelling on the past! Still, that didn't stop the hunger pain from starting to grow.

Kavi was happy to have a school schedule that allowed him half days. He had been hoping to graduate high school in three years, but a couple required classes kept him in for another year. He had picked up Kyon from preschool and she seemed to remember he had promised her a trip to the park after school. So there they were, nearing the playground at a speed much slower than Kyon would have liked. MinKyon kept pulling on her daddy's arm, "아빠, 빨리~ (Daddy, hurry)." She cried out, excited to be at the park. It had recently become one of Kavi's favorite places to do homework, though with the weather getting chiller he had to admit he was a little sad. He saw no one else seemed to be around and let her go, "가 (go)." He told her simply, taking her backpack and setting it next to him as he sat on a bench with a good view of the play ground. It wasn't even two seconds after he took out his English binder that he noticed a girl was on a nearby bench, and he couldn't help but stare at her. She's beautiful... Was his first thought, then noticed she actually looked a bit raggedy and just a little too skinny. He debated going up to her, but instead tried to force himself to stop staring, moving just his eyes to look over to his daughter, who was happily playing on the monkey bars.

Marissa began drawing a tree not too far away from her. It was a pretty mixture of gold and red, and she wished she still had her paints with her. I'll have to buy some more when I get money. She was about five minutes into her drawing when a little girl ran across her vision. She frowned a bit, when had people arrived? Looking around, she noticed there was also a boy there. She watched him for a moment, before he turned to look at her, and then she immediately turned her attention back to her drawing.

Kavi returned to his homework, letting out a small sigh. They hadn't even kept eye contact for a couple seconds before she looked back down at whatever she was doing. Seeing MinKyon now going across the monkey bars, he smiled, quickly pulling out his camera and snapping a picture of her going across, smiling as he saw the picture. This is a good one for the photo album... He thought. He glanced quickly at the girl on the other bench, pretending to still be looking at the picture as he snapped a picture of her. She really is beautiful in her own way... He thought, not sure if he was glancing more at her or the new picture he got of her.

Marissa sighed as she felt, and heard, her stomach growl again, wincing as it started to hurt. I really shouldn't have eaten breakfast so early. Her constantly growling stomach was distracting her from her drawing, so she sighed and set aside her pad, which proved to be a bad idea. As soon as she set it down, a breeze decided to blow, scattering her pictures everywhere. Marissa sighed, placing a hand on her forehead. "Great. Just my luck."

Kavi glanced up from over his camera as the papers began flowing out onto the pavement. He set his camera carefully in his bag then went over to her, picking up the papers and standing up. Up close, he could see just how skinny she really was and also how beautiful she would be with just a bit of extra fat on her. Not able to say anything, he just handed her the papers, eyes wide.

"Uh, thanks." Marissa said, a bit startled when the boy came over to hand her her papers. She'd been debating whether or not to get up to get them, but this saved her the effort. She didn't think she'd have the energy to get up anyway. Her stomach chose then to growl, rather loudly, and Marissa blushed, hoping he hadn't heard.

"Are you okay?" was all Kavi could manage to ask, feeling like it was something stupid to ask, after all, she hadn't been hurt. Get it together. he scolded himself.

"Uh...yeah, I-I'm fine." Marissa looked away as her stomach growled again. Except for that. She wouldn't lower herself to asking strangers for food, even if she desperately needed it. Not that she thought herself higher than anyone else, she was just used to getting for herself and not having to ask for anything.

Kavi looked at her skeptically before quickly looking over to the playground. "아빠 (daddy)!" MinKyon cried, having fallen off the monkey bars. She was now sitting on the ground, upset. Kavi looked to the girl apologetically. "Well, be more careful with those papers." He told her simply, now feeling foolish. As he helped his daughter up he scanned her for injuries. "괜찮아, 견아. (You're okay, Kyon.)." he told her, helping her brush off before she began climbing the playground. "조심해 (be careful)." He added in, returning to his seat on the bench. His hands garbed for his camera again, but his eyes drifted to the girl on the bench across from him. "I'm Kavi." he told her simply, not quite why his mouth was not doing anything he wanted it to at the moment,

Marissa frowned as she watched the boy interact with his apparent daughter. I wonder if that's his little sister or something. She thought to herself as she placed her papers next to her, this time keeping a hand on them so they didn't blow away again. The thought of the little girl being his daughter didn't even cross her mind. Her brow furrowed even more when she heard them speaking another language other than English. "O-oh. I'm Marissa." She said when he introduced himself. And then without thinking, blurted out, "What nationality are you?"

"oh," Kavi began, a smile spreading across his face and a small laugh emitting from his throat, "I'm half Korean." he explained. Observing her beauty once again, he gave himself a mental smack as he asked, "and you?"

A light blush crossed Marissa's cheeks when he began laughing, afraid that she'd asked something wrong, but she found that she enjoyed the sound. "Uh..." She tugged on a piece of her hair, a small frown once again marring her face. What did mom say I was again? "Uh, my mom is Italian. My dad is half German half American." Realizing that didn't really answer his question she said, "S-so I guess that makes me a third German, a third Italian and a third American."

Kavi nodded, "Fair enough," he replied, laughing again. "After all, if you had asked what my other half was, I'd probably be just as coherent." he joked, trying not to make her feel uncomfortable. After all, it wasn't every day some stranger just began talking with you.

Marissa nodded, lowering her gaze again. Another breeze blew, blowing her hair in her face. She brushed it away, glancing up at the little girl again. "Is that your little sister?" She asked, looking over at him. She'd decided that she liked to hear him talk, or maybe she just liked having someone to talk to.
