Liesl shrunk in her seat, he didn't yell or raise his voice, but she felt bad for changing his order. "I wouldn't make you go to Coble's even if I knew it was an option. Did Kylie have a choice or did you just go?" She couldn't decide if she was offended or if Kylie was the least fortunate of the two of them, at least she'd had a choice, Kylie didn't seem the type of girl who'd eat much so maybe it was just unfortunate for Brody. "I'm not that type of girl Brody, I can pay for myself even if you ask me to go to lunch. I came, you brought me to lunch, I'm not going to be offended if I had to pay." She knew it was no use to try and argue with him.

Brody's frown deepened but not in irritation, more as realisation hit him that he hadn't even asked Kylie where she wanted to go, he'd just chosen for her. "I uh.. no she didn't pick it. But I wanted to take her somewhere nice for dinner." It dawned on him that although his motives were good, his actions were coming off as controlling. "Do you think she minded? I mean, she seemed to be having an ok time..."
Sliding down in his seat wearily, he sighed. "I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know how to date a girl like Kylie. Actually, I don't know how to date any girl, I'm hopeless."

Liesl laughed and as their drinks arrived she took a long sip. "I think you're doing just fine." Another sip. "You have two girls at your beck and call. I don't know about Kylie but I'm practically throwing myself at you and that doesn't exactly read you don't know what you're doing. I'm impressed. Kylie is smitten, she's crazy for wanting to be with a guy who had a baby on the way with some psych girl who is massively clingy."

Brody sat back up on his seat as their drinks arrived and shook his head. "I don't know why you are, there's nothing special about me honestly."
Taking a long drink, he sighed heavily. "Kylie is definitely not throwing herself at me. I had to ask her if she even felt anything for me bacause I couldn't tell. She hasn't made a single move towards me since the hurricane."
Shaking his head, he took her hand and smiled. "But what have you been doing? You haven't told me much lately.."

Liesl scoffed. "Seriously? You don't see what's so great about you?" She ran her fingers through his hair from behind and then let them smooth over his gorgious face. "You have awesome hair, beautiful eyes..." Her fingers made their way down to his chest. "You have a big, though indifferent heart, and you rock in bed." She settled herself back in her seat and sipped her water some more listening to him talk about Kylie. "I honestly don't see why she's so appealing to you, I mean what's fun about the chase?"
She shrugged one shoulder. "I haven't been up to much, a lot of walking, don't want to gain too much weight, and I don't want to work my fingers to the bone trying to get rid of the baby fat." She held up a hand as if to deflect any concerns or argument he might pose. "I'm keeping a healthy weight for Bean and my excersicing is in no way hurting him or her." She drew circles on her stomach. "Other than that not much else going to school sitting by myself at lunch and trying to ignore all the stares. It's probably a good thing Kylie and I don't see a lot of each other at school, though I can't imagine those looks would make much more difference."

Brody closed his eyes as she ran her fingers through his hair and down his face. He felt his body tighten as her fingers drifted down his abdomen and he opened his eyes quickly. When she asked what he saw in Kylie, he frowned once more.
"I'm not exactly sure. But she's not like any other girl I've ever been interested in. She's...vulnerable. And there's just something about her that makes it impossible to forget about her."
As Liesl explained how her time at school had been, Brody felt his stomach plummet and he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "I'm so sorry Liesl. I should be there, at least as a buffer. Maybe I should put off my apprenticeship for now and come back to school for the last year?"

Liesl shook her head, she had no further comments to make regarding his interest in Kylie, she'd never understand his logic concerning their relationship and arguing was something they did more often than not and she was sick of it.
"No, I'd prefer you to keep your apprenticeship. That opportunity might not be available to you after school. Besides if you come back the chance you'll actually stick around me are like this big." She held her fingers up about a centimeter apart. "Kylie attends Riverside remember, she'll be vying for your attention and you can't be with me all the time. I'll always get those looks. It's only depressing when I actually sit and think about it." It was depressing all the time but there was no point telling him that. He didn't need to give up this opportunity just because she was getting dirty looks from her peers and most if the school faculty or even because she had no friends.
He could tell her until he was blue in the face that he would spend all his available time in school beside her buffering the looks from the others, but she wasn't falling for it. Kylie was running the show and if Kylie wanted something she was going to get it and Liesl would still be sitting alone, getting looks and being miserable because she'd see them in the halls together and it would tear her apart. No, she'd rather him stay as far away from the halls of the high school and just stick to getting dirty looks from Kylie, Kylie's friends, and the rest of the school. "How about we don't talk about me or what's going on with me." She sat up and moved out of his arms and closer to the window. "Maybe we shouldn't talk, I've been doing fine not snapping or trying to start arguments but I dont know how much longer I can hang on."

Brody nodded mutely wondering for the thousandth time what on earth he'd said to make her feel like yelling at him. I'm not sure I can last five more months. I'm going to go crazy, or she's gonna end up killing me. He smiled at the waitress as she arrived with their food and took his plate from her. He had to admit, his altered meal smelled pretty good. "Thanks for that."
Tucking in, he tried hard to stop himself talking to her, but it felt like something was going to burst inside him if he didn't. "Uh... how's your burger? Bean liking it?"

Liesl's mouth watered at the smell of her burger being placed in front of her, but she didn't touch it. She kept her eyes on the window, it appeared as if she were looking out, but she was watching him. Her heart breaking again and again. She turned her head too really look at him when he asked how her burger was. "I don't know, I haven't tasted it yet." She turned her head back to the window and this time she really did look out. "I've lost my appetite." She felt that might be an insult to him, though he wouldn't know why she was so angry at him now. She wasn't even sure why she was so mad at him, maybe it had to do with how shitty her life had turned, not that he was responsible for it, but it was just easier for her to blame him for it.

Brody put down his burger, and wondered whether or not they'd ever have a time where they were just happy with each other. It seemed like no matter what he did or said, nothing was right.
Sighing, he looked at his watch. "Well, I guess if you're not hungry we should probably go to the ultrasound. We might be bit early but we can wait there if you want."
Brody ran his fingers through his hair and sighed once more. Taking out his wallet, he left the money for their food on the table, before putting his wallet back in his pocket. Leaning his elbows on the table, he looked at her cautiously. "Is there.. did I do...Can I help?"

"Brody, honestly." She shook her head and looked at him again. "Eat your burger and fries and just let me sit here." She shook her head again. "You honestly don't think there is anything wrong with what you're doing. You don't think that I'm hurting still? I can tell myself over and over again that I'm not bothered by you or her." She looked away. "I'm trying my hardest but it's too hard, I'm not strong enough. Now I'm not telling you to give up on Kylie and I'm not trying to tell you I don't want you around the kid. I'm trying to get it through your thick skull that it hurts me. Now eat your burger."

Brody put his head in his hands as she spoke. Until she'd spelled it out, he didn't realise what he'd actually been doing to her. Despite his previous offer of not hanging around her, he hadn't seriously meant it. Now though, it seemed like the only option they had to remain on friendly terms.
Lifting his head, he frowned. "I'm sorry. Truly I am. But I don't know how to make everyone involved happy, and keep them that way. I asked you if you wanted me to stop hanging around, and you said no. So I believed you. I need you to be honest with me ok?"
Taking one last bite of his burger, he pushed his plate away. "Come on. I'm not hungry anymore either."

Liesl stared at him and then shook her head. She wasn't about to let him stop seeing her, that would be giving up. He told her he loved her and she wasn't about to let him get away with that and just let him off the hook that easily. No, if she disappeared from his view then Kylie would win and she'd forever be torn apart by it. "I don't want to lose you." She said quietly. "I need you, you're my only friend." Her eyes were brimming with tears but she managed to keep them from falling, until an off the wall idea hit her. "I could finish carrying Bean and then I'll just leave him or her with you. I'll go away for college and then we'll all be happy. "You'll have your son or daughter and Kylie will have you and I'll have tons of homework to make me forget about the three of you." He wouldn't go for it and she hated the idea, but she couldn't see any other way for her to accept him wanting Kylie. "It's the only way I'll get over you and you can commit to Kylie and if the two of you don't fill Bean's head with horrible things about me, maybe I'll get to see him or her again."

Brodt shook his head violently as she talked, feeling a piece of his heart shatter. The idea that she would leave was unthinkable, let alone Bean not knowing her. "No way. I mean, not about the college part, I think that's brilliant. But the you not seeing Bean part. Not a chance. We will figure something out, but that's not the answer." He ran his hand through his hair, and muttered half under his breath. "Plus, what would I do without you?"
Looking back at her, he smiled crookedly. "Other than Jack...you're my best friend. Crazy as that sounds..."

Feeling a little relieved and extremely confused, Liesl put her head down on the table. "You'd live." She replied. "I'm not important and I'm not your best friend, I'm just some random girl you had a one night stand with and you claim to love, but not enough to...." She stopped herself and lifted her head off the table, moving toward him, pushing against him so she could get out of the booth. "Let's go."
