Brody took a deep breath and let it out slowly, deciding not to respond to her opinion. Ok, there's a new idea. Vow of silence until Bean is born.
He followed her out of the booth, and stopped just short of placing a hand on the small of her back. Clearly any physical contact was going to make things harder for her. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he walked through the door. "You know something cool? Bean is growing skin..."
Stopping at the car, he unlocked it and flopped onto his seat. He'd been so excited that morning. He wished that there could just be an easy conversation between them, but if he was being realistic he wasn't sure they'd had one since that first night.

Liesl didn't respond to his comment about their baby growing skin, she was interested, she just didn't want to talk to him anymore. She stood by her door and waited for him to unlock it before she yanked it open and sat down, buckling the seatbelt around herself. She kept her eyes on the window. "I didn't know that." She finally replied. "Did you go out and buy a baby book?" She asked, she had, but she'd barely touched it.

Brody nodded as he started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. "I bought three. But they're really confusing cause they all say different things. I'm trying to understand it all though. And most of it I guess I don't need to read until Bean is actually here."
He didn't want another reason for them to be uncomfortable that day, but he couldn't help but give her what he saw as good news. "Uh, so I know you said you wanted your own apartment or whatever cause you didn't want to live in the basement of my house with me...but I asked Dan and Jade how they'd feel if you moved in. And we have that spare bedroom, so they said it would be fine. You don't have to, if you still want to be on your own...I just thought I'd let you know that it's still an option."
Keeping his eyes on the road, he drummed his fingers nervously against the steering wheel. Pulling in at the doctors office, he shut off the engine and turned to her. "You ready to find out what Bean is?"

"Three? Wow. I have one, my mom bought it for me because I was looking at it, I stopped reading it though because it said something that I didn't think was true, like I'd looked it up online and got several different results, so it's just been sitting on my dresser. I'm just going to let my mom take care of me, tell me what she went through and just go from there." She shrugged. "As long as Bean comes out with all his or her digits and healthy, I don't really care to know when they form." That was sort of a lie, she wanted to know, but she didn't want to learn it from a possibly unreliable book.
She took her eyes off the window and actually looked at him. "I don't know that, that'll work, as tempting as that sounds." She said, then looked back out the window. She was all for living under the same roof as him, but she didn't know how that would work. "Maybe if you've dropped Kylie..." She mumbled, very quietly as her pulled into the doctor's office and parked. "I've been ready, are you?"

Brody shook his head slowly, and turned to face her. "I've been thinking about whether I want to know or not. And a part of me does. So I think I'll just decide for sure when we get in there."
Opening his door, he climbed out and shut it behind him. Suddenly he felt very young, and incredibly unprepared. "You know they count pregnancy by weeks? It makes it sound like a lot less time. I..I'm not sure if we have enough time to get ready."

Liesl got out of the car and joined him on the other side. "Yeah, I knew they counted by weeks, but I think it's stupid." She made her way up to the door of the doctor's office and pulled it open. "I'm not good at math, it really shouldn't be that hard because most months have four weeks in them, but it confuses the hell out of me. I like saying I'm five months and that's what I'm sticking to." She turned to look at him. "What do you mean we don't have a lot of time to get ready?" She was holding out that by the end of her pregnancy, Brody would finally realize he wanted her and not Kylie and so went her thought process.

Brody followed her to the door and shrugged as he passed through. "I dunno. It just seems like it's a lot to organise in not very long. I mean, we have to learn about how take care of Bean, and we have to buy all the stuff we're gonna need..."
He trailed off as he sat down in the waiting room, bouncing his feet on the floor. "Plus, I thought...things would be easier than they are. I don't know why I thought that. I just did."

Liesl signed herself in and then sat beside Brody. "It is a lot to organize and learn and buy, but we'll be fine." She folded her arms over her chest, at least everything she would need for Bean would be available to her at least a month before Bean was to arrive, her mom would make sure of that. "Would be a lot easier if we lived under the same roof..."
"Of course you thought it would be easier, you're a guy, you really don't have to worry about anything until he or she actually gets here. I honestly can't believe you've attended every single one of these appointments aside from the first one where I found out for certain." She looked at him. "I guess if I were you and I had the same fucked up idea you have, I'd just be with Kylie until the baby came and then I'd be apart of it's life, but that just seems just as messed up."

Brody frowned, counting to ten in his head so he wouldn't yell. "I told you I'd be here didn't I? And whatever else I am, I'm not a liar Liesl. I guess you haven't known me long enough to know that yet, but I'll prove it to you."
He eyed her warily, before sliding his arm around her shoulder. "You know, you don't have to be so tough. It's ok to be afraid of something. That's part of my job isn't it? To make sure you're ok?"

Liesl glanced at him and rolled her eyes letting out a sigh. "I never called you a liar, I just didn't expect you to be here for all the appointments. I admire you for that at least. I know you're invested in Bean, so you're going to be a great dad. Fucking lousy boyfriend though." She looked up at him, this time with a grin and a glint in her eyes. She looked away again as his arm went around her shoulders, her earlier disapproving of him touching her, gone. "I have to be tough, you don't give me much of a choice." She bit her tongue after that statement and tried to relax, she leaned into him and closed her eyes. "Sorry."

Brody grinned, happy that the cheeky expression was back on her face. Despite how true her comment was, he still poked his tongue out at her in retaliation. "I'm awesome boyfriend material, thank you very much. Just ask Eve, she'll tell you. Well, as long as my girlfriend doesn't just up and leave town I'm awesome. Otherwise I'm pretty lousy."
He tightened his arm around her shoulder slightly, and breathed in the scent of her shampoo. "Let me be the tough one for once. Let me show you I can do it."

"I'd rather not talk to any other girls in your life unless it's someone who can talk your dumb ass into proving to me how much you really love me." She let the grin stick and didn't look away or apologize. "You know you messed up when you sent that text message right? Cause I'm not gonna let you forget it." She reached one hand up and tapped his nose.
"I don't know how to let you be the tough one, or more, I don't know how to not be...." She was looking for a word he'd used to describe Kylie. "Vulnerable." She scrunched up her nose and shook her head, shaking the look off her face "Is that what you're looking for in a girl? Vulnerability? Because if so, I'll figure out how to fake it."

Brody flushed as she mentioned his text message, but continued to smile regardless. Deciding to ignore her comment however, he sighed and shook his head. "No, I'm not looking for vulnerable..but you know, it's nice to feel needed. And I don't have a "type" so I'm actually not looking for anything in particular.
The doctor arrived in the doorway, and called Liesl's name. Releasing her shoulder, he stood up and extended his hand to help her up. "'Get ready to smile Bean."

"You're a complicated guy." She said as she took his hand and got out of her chair. "You think you could figure out your type and let me know so I can adapt to it?" She made a face and nodded at the doctor as she made her way through the doorway. "Sooner or later I'm not going to fit through this door." She laughed. "Brody, I just told you I needed you." She rolled her eyes.
The doctor motioned to the gown she was supposed to put on and then slipped outside. Liesl, unabashedly, stripped down in full view of Brody. "Look, Brody." She ran both hands up and down her belly. "Bean already looks amazing." She laughed and then pulled the gown on.

Brody followed her through, chuckling softly. He had to hand it to her, she was nothing if not persistant. He stopped short however as she stripped off. Not sure where to look exactly, he ran his hand through his hair and smiled guiltily. Wow...she looks fantastic.
He glanced nervously at the doctor, expecting some sort of reprimand, then realised that the doctor had no idea about their personal situation. He turned his head back quickly and nodded. "Yep. Bean is definitely taking after me so far." He winked at her as she got dressed in the gown, and moved to stand next to the examination bed.
